ਨਿਰਤਕਰਤਚਲੈਧਰਾਪਰਿਕਾਮਰੂਪਪ੍ਰਭਾਇ॥
ਜੋ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਨਚਦਾ ਟਪਦਾ ਚਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਕਾਮ-ਦੇਵ ਵਰਗੀ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਸੀ।
He walks on the earth with dancing pose, glorious in beauty like Cupid.
ਦੇਖਿਦੇਖਿਛਕੈਸਭੈਨ੍ਰਿਪਰੀਝਿਇਉਨ੍ਰਿਪਰਾਇ॥੯॥੧੫੦॥
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ, ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਯੁਧਿਸ਼ਠਰ ਵੀ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ॥੯॥੧੫੦॥
On seeing him all the kings are pleased and also (Yudhishtra) the king of king.9.150.
ਬੀਣਬੇਣਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗਬਾਜਤਬਾਸੁਰੀਸੁਰਨਾਇ॥
ਵੀਣਾ, ਬੇਣ, ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ, ਬੰਸਰੀ, ਭੇਰੀ,
Vina, Ven Mridang, Bansuri and Bheri are being played.
ਮੁਰਜਤੂਰਮੁਚੰਗਮੰਦਲਚੰਗਬੰਗਸਨਾਇ॥
ਮੁਰਜ, ਤੁਰਹੀਆਂ, ਮੁਚੰਗ, ਮੰਦਲ, ਚੰਗ, ਬੰਗ, ਸ਼ਹਿਨਾਈ,
Innumerable Muj, Toor, Murchang, Mandal, Changbeg and sarnaaee
ਢੋਲਢੋਲਕਖੰਜਕਾਡਫਝਾਂਝਕੋਟਬਜੰਤ॥
ਢੋਲ, ਢੋਲਕ, ਖੰਜਰੀ, ਡਫ, ਝਾਂਝ, ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਵਜ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ,
Dhol, Dholak, Khanjari, Daph and Jhaanjh are also being played.
ਜੰਗਘੁੰਘਰੂਟਲਕਾਉਪਜੰਤਰਾਗਅਨੰਤ॥੧੦॥੧੫੧॥
ਵੱਡੇ ਟੱਲ ('ਜੰਗ') ਘੁੰਘਰੂ, ਟੱਲੀਆਂ ਆਦਿ (ਦੇ ਵੱਜਣ ਨਾਲ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਰਾਗ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ॥੧੦॥੧੫੧॥
Big bell and small bells resound and innumerable modes of music are created.10.151.
ਅਮਿਤਸਬਦਬਜੰਤ੍ਰਭੇਰਿਹਰੰਤਬਾਜਅਪਾਰ॥
ਭੇਰੀ ਆਦਿ ਵਾਜਿਆਂ ('ਬਜੰਤ੍ਰ') ਦੀ ਅਸੀਮ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਨਿਕਲ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ, ਅਤੇ (ਸੈਨਿਕਾਂ ਦੇ) ਬੇਸ਼ੁਮਾਰ ਘੋੜੇ ਹਿਣਕ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
Kettledrums when played produce unlimited sound and innumerable horses neigh.
ਜਾਤਜਉਨਦਿਸਾਨਕੇਪਛਲਾਗਹੀਸਿਰਦਾਰ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ (ਉਹ ਯੱਗ-ਘੋੜਾ) ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ (ਉਸ) ਪਿਛੇ (ਫੌਜੀ) ਨਾਇਕ ਲਗ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਸਨ।
Wherever the horse named Sri Barn goes, the army chiefs follow him.
ਜਉਨਬਾਧਤੁਰੰਗਜੂਝਤਜੀਤੀਐਕਰਿਜੁਧ॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਘੋੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨਾਲ (ਸੈਨਾ ਨਾਇਕ) ਜੂਝਦੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਲੜਾਈ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਤ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਸਨ।
Whosoever chains the horse, they fight with him and conquer him.
ਆਨਜੌਨਮਿਲੈਬਚੈਨਹਿਮਾਰੀਐਕਰਿਕ੍ਰੁਧ॥੧੧॥੧੫੨॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਆ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਸੀ, (ਉਹ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ, ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੧੧॥੧੫੨॥
He who receives them, he is saved, otherwise one who confronts, is violently killed.11.152.
ਹੈਯਫੇਰਚਾਰਦਿਸਾਨਮੈਸਭਜੀਤਕੈਛਿਤਪਾਲ॥
ਚੌਹਾਂ ਦਿਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਘੋੜਾ ਫੇਰ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਤ ਕੇ
All the king were conquered by sending the horse in all the four directions.
ਬਾਜਮੇਧਕਰਿਯੋਸਪੂਰਨਅਮਿਤਜਗਰਿਸਾਲ॥
(ਯੁਧਿਸ਼ਠਰ ਨੇ) ਅਸ਼ਵਮੇਧ ਯੱਗ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜੋ ਬਹੁਤ ਅਸੀਮ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸੀ।
The horse-sacrifice was thus completed, it is very great and marvelous in the world.
ਭਾਤਭਾਤਅਨੇਕਦਾਨਸੁਦੀਜੀਅਹਿਦਿਜਰਾਜ॥
ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਦਾਨ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਏ
Various types of materials were given to the Brahmins in charity.
ਭਾਤਭਾਤਪਟੰਬਰਾਦਿਕਬਾਜਿਯੋਗਜਰਾਜ॥੧੨॥੧੫੩॥
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੇਸ਼ਮੀ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ, ਘੋੜੇ ਅਤੇ ਹਾਥੀ (ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਸਨ) ॥੧੨॥੧੫੩॥
Also many types of silken clothes, horses and great elephant.12.153.
ਅਨੇਕਦਾਨਦੀਏਦਿਜਾਨਨਅਮਿਤਦਰਬਅਪਾਰ॥
ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੇਕ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਨ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਏ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਤੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਸੀ;
Many gifts and unaccountable wealth was given in charity to innumerable Brahmins.
ਹੀਰਚੀਰਪਟੰਬਰਾਦਿਸੁਵਰਨਕੇਬਹੁਭਾਰ॥
ਹੀਰੇ, ਕਪੜੇ, ਰੇਸ਼ਮੀ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਭਾਰ ਸਨ।
Including diamonds, common clothes, silken clothes and many loads of gold.
ਦੁਸਟਪੁਸਟਤ੍ਰਸੇਸਬੈਥਰਹਰਿਓਸੁਨਿਗਿਰਰਾਇ॥
(ਉਸ ਦਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਵੈਰੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਡਰ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਮੇਰ ਪਰਬਤ ਵੀ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਕੰਬਣ ਲਗਾ
All the great enemies were horrified and even Sumeru, the king of mountain trembled on listening the details of charity.
ਕਾਟਿਕਾਟਿਨਦੈਦ੍ਵਿਜੈਨ੍ਰਿਪਬਾਟਬਾਟਲੁਟਾਇ॥੧੩॥੧੫੪॥
(ਕਿ ਕਿਤੇ) ਰਾਜਾ (ਯੁਧਿਸ਼ਠਰ) ਕਟ ਕਟ ਕੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵੀ) ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੰਡ ਵੰਡ ਕੇ ਲੁਟਾ ਨਾ ਦੇਵੇ ॥੧੩॥੧੫੪॥
Fearing that the Chief Sovereign may not cut him into bits and then distribute the bits.13.154.
ਫੇਰਕੈਸਭਦੇਸਮੈਹਯਮਾਰਿਓਮਖਜਾਇ॥
ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਘੋੜੇ ਨੂੰ) ਫੇਰ ਕੇ ਯੱਗ-ਸ਼ਾਲਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
Moving it throughout the country, the horse was ultimately killed in the sacrificial place
ਕਾਟਿਕੈਤਿਹਕੋਤਬੈਪਲਕੈਕਰੈਚਤੁਭਾਇ॥
ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਟ ਕੇ ਚਾਰ ਹਿੱਸਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੰਡਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
Then it was cut into four pieces (parts).
ਏਕਬਿਪ੍ਰਨਏਕਛਤ੍ਰਨਏਕਇਸਤ੍ਰਿਨਦੀਨ॥
ਇਕ (ਹਿੱਸਾ) ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ, ਇਕ ਛਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
One part was given to the Brahmins, one to Kshatriyas and one to women.
ਚਤ੍ਰਅੰਸਬਚਿਯੋਜੁਤਾਤੇਹੋਮਮੈਵਹਿਕੀਨ॥੧੪॥੧੫੫॥
(ਜੋ) ਚੌਥਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਬਚਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਹੂਤੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ॥੧੪॥੧੫੫॥
The remaining fourth part was burnt in the fire-altar.14.155.
ਪੰਚਸੈਬਰਖਪ੍ਰਮਾਨਸੁਰਾਜਕੈਇਹਦੀਪ॥
ਇਸ ਦੀਪ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜ ਸੌ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਕੇ ਪੰਡੂ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ (ਪੰਜ ਪਾਂਡਵ)
After ruling this Dvipa for five hundred years.
ਅੰਤਜਾਇਗਿਰੇਰਸਾਤਲਪੰਡਪੁਤ੍ਰਮਹੀਪ॥
ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਮਾਲਾ ਪਰਬਤ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਡਿਗੇ।
These sons of king Pandu ultimately fell in the himalayas (neither-world).
ਭੂਮਭਰਤਭਏਪਰੀਛਤਪਰਮਰੂਪਮਹਾਨ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ) ਪਰਮ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਪਰੀਕਸ਼ਿਤ ਭਾਰਤ-ਭੂਮੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੋਇਆ।
After them Parikshat, who was most beautiful and mighty, (their grandson, the son of Abhimanya) became the king of Bharat.
ਅਮਿਤਰੂਪਉਦਾਰਦਾਨਅਛਿਜਤੇਜਨਿਧਾਨ॥੧੫॥੧੫੬॥
(ਉਹ) ਅਸੀਮ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ, ਉਦਾਰ ਦਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਨਾ ਛਿਜਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇਜ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਸੀ ॥੧੫॥੧੫੬॥
He was man of boundless charm, a generous donor and a treasure of invincible glory.15.156.

ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਪਰੀਕਸ਼ਿਤ ਨੇ (ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਲ ਕੇ) ਇਕ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਸਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ
One day the King Parikshat consulted his ministers
ਗਜਾਮੇਧਸੁਜਗਕੋਕਿਉਕੀਜੀਐਸਵਧਾਨ॥
ਕਿ ਗਜ-ਮੇਧ ਯੱਗ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਵਿਧੀਪੂਰਵਕ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਏ।
As to how the elephant sacrifice be performed methodically?
ਬੋਲਿਬੋਲਿਸੁਮਿਤ੍ਰਮੰਤ੍ਰਨਮੰਤ੍ਰਕੀਓਬਿਚਾਰ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਮਿਤਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾ ਬੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
The friends and the ministers who spoke gave the idea
ਸੇਤਦੰਤਮੰਗਾਇਕੈਬਹੁਜੁਗਤਸੌਅਬਿਚਾਰ॥੧॥੧੫੭॥
(ਫਿਰ) ਹੋਰ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਾ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਜੁਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਦੰਦਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਾਥੀ ਮੰਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੧॥੧੫੭॥
That abandoning all other thoughts, the elephant of white teeth be sent for.1.157.
ਜਗਮੰਡਲਕੋਰਚਿਯੋਤਹਿਕੋਟਅਸਟਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ॥
ਉਥੇ ਅੱਠ ਕੋਹਾਂ ਤਕ (ਪਸਰਿਆ) ਯੱਗ-ਮੰਡਲ ਬਣਵਾਇਆ।
The sacrificial altar was constructed within eight kos
ਅਸਟਸਹੰਸ੍ਰਬੁਲਾਇਰਿਤੁਜੁਅਸਟਲਛਦਿਜਾਨ॥
ਅੱਠ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਰਿਤਜ (ਯੱਗ ਕਰਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਮਕਾਂਡੀ) ਅਤੇ ਅੱਠ ਲੱਖ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਏ।
Eight thousand ritual-performing and eight lakh other Brahmins
ਭਾਤਭਾਤਬਨਾਇਕੈਤਹਾਅਸਟਸਹੰਸ੍ਰਪ੍ਰਨਾਰ॥
(ਉਸ ਹਵਨਕੁੰਡ ਨਾਲ) ਉਥੇ ਭਾਂਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੇ ਅੱਠ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਨਾਲੇ ਬਣਵਾ ਕੇ
Eight thousand drain of various types were prepared.
ਹਸਤਸੁੰਡਪ੍ਰਮਾਨਤਾਮਹਿਹੋਮੀਐਘ੍ਰਿਤਧਾਰ॥੨॥੧੫੮॥
ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਹਾਥੀ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਡ ਜਿੰਨੀ ਘਿਉ ਦੀ ਧਾਰ ਹੋਮ ਹੋਣ ਲਗੀ ॥੨॥੧੫੮॥
Through which the continuous current of the clarified butter of the size of the elephant-trunk flowed.2.158.
ਦੇਸਦੇਸਬੁਲਾਇਕੈਬਹੁਭਾਤਭਾਤਨ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ॥
ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਭਾਂਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਏ
Various types of kings from various countries were called.
ਭਾਂਤਭਾਤਨਕੇਦੀਏਬਹੁਦਾਨਮਾਨਰਸਾਲ॥
ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਦਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਦਰ ਮਾਣ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
They were given many gifts of various types with honour,
ਹੀਰਚੀਰਪਟੰਬਰਾਦਿਕਬਾਜਅਉਗਜਰਾਜ॥
ਹੀਰੇ, ਕਪੜੇ, ਰੇਸ਼ਮੀ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ, ਘੋੜੇ ਅਤੇ ਹਾਥੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਜਾ ਕੇ
Including diamonds, silken clothers etc., horses and big elephants.
ਸਾਜਸਾਜਸਬੈਦੀਏਬਹੁਰਾਜਕੌਨ੍ਰਿਪਰਾਜ॥੩॥੧੫੯॥
ਬਹੁਤ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਪਰੀਕਸ਼ਿਤ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ॥੩॥੧੫੯॥
The great Sovereign gave all the things highly decorated to the kings.3.159.
ਐਸਿਭਾਂਤਿਕੀਓਤਹਾਬਹੁਬਰਖਲਉਤਿਹਰਾਜ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਰ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਤਕ ਉਥੇ ਰਾਜ ਕੀਤਾ।
In this way he ruled there for many years.
ਕਰਨਦੇਵਪ੍ਰਮਾਨਲਉਅਰਜੀਤਕੈਬਹੁਸਾਜ॥
ਕਰਨ ਦੇਵ ਰਾਜੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਮੰਨਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਮੰਨਿਆਂ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਤ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਮਾਨ (ਖੋਹ ਲਿਆ)।
Many eminent enemies like the king Karan were conquered alongwith many of their precious belongings.
ਏਕਦਿਵਸਚੜਿਓਨ੍ਰਿਪਬਰਸੈਲਕਾਜਅਖੇਟ॥
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਜਾ (ਪਰੀਕਸ਼ਿਤ) ਸੈਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ।
On one day the king went on a merry-making trip and hunting.
ਦੇਖਮ੍ਰਿਗਭਇਓਤਹਾਮੁਨਰਾਜਸਿਉਭਈਭੇਟ॥੪॥੧੬੦॥
ਉਥੇ ਇਕ ਹਿਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ) ਹੋ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਥੇ ਇਕ ਮੁਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭੇਂਟ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥੧੬੦॥
He saw and pursued a deer and met a great sage.4.160.
ਪੈਡਯਾਹਿਗਯੋਨਹੀਮ੍ਰਿਗਰੇਰਖੀਸਰਬੋਲ॥
(ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਛਿਆ) ਹੇ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ, ਦਸ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਹਿਰਨ ਤਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਿਆ?
(He said to the sage) “O great sage! Please speak, did the deer go this way ?”
ਉਤ੍ਰਭੂਪਹਿਨਦੀਓਮੁਨਿਆਖਿਭੀਇਕਖੋਲ॥
ਮੁਨੀ ਨੇ ਨਾ ਅੱਖ ਖੋਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
The sage did not open his eye nor gave any answer to the king,
ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕਸਰਪਨਿਹਾਰਕੈਜਿਹਅਗ੍ਰਤਾਹਉਠਾਇ॥
(ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਇਕ) ਮੋਏ ਹੋਏ ਸੱਪ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਪਰੀਕਸ਼ਿਤ ਨੇ) (ਕਮਾਨ ਦੇ) ਗੋਸ਼ੇ ('ਅਗ੍ਰ') ਨਾਲ ਉਠਾ ਕੇ,
Seeing a dead snake, (the king) raised it with the tip of his bow
ਤਉਨਕੇਗਰਡਾਰਕੈਨ੍ਰਿਪਜਾਤਭਯੋਨ੍ਰਿਪਰਾਇ॥੫॥੧੬੧॥
ਉਸ (ਮੁਨੀ) ਦੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਉਥੋਂ ਚਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ॥੫॥੧੬੧॥
Put it around the neck of the sage then the Great Sovereign went away.5.161.
ਆਖਉਘਾਰਲਖੈਕਹਾਮੁਨਸਰਪਦੇਖਡਰਾਨ॥
ਮੁਨੀ ਨੇ ਅੱਖ ਉਘਾੜ ਕੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਪ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਡਰ ਗਿਆ।
What did the sage see on opening his eyes? He was frightened to see the snake (around his neck).
ਕ੍ਰੋਧਕਰਤਭਯੋਤਹਾਦਿਜਰਕਤਨੇਤ੍ਰਚੁਚਾਨ॥
ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੁਨੀ ਨੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਲਹੂ ਚੋਣ ਲਗਿਆ।
There he became very angry and the blood oozed out form the eyes of the Brahmin.
ਜਉਨਮੋਗਰਿਡਾਰਿਗਿਓਤਿਹਕਾਟਿਹੈਅਹਿਰਾਇ॥
(ਉਹ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗਿਆ) ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਗਲੇ ਵਿਚ (ਸੱਪ ਨੂੰ) ਪਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ (ਤੱਛਕ) ਕਟੇਗਾ।
(He said:) “He, who hath put this snake around my neck, he will be bitten by the king of snakes
ਸਪਤਦਿਵਸਨਮੈਮਰੈਯਹਿਸਤਿਸ੍ਰਾਪਸਦਾਇ॥੬॥੧੬੨॥
ਸੱਤਾਂ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਮਰ ਜਾਏਗਾ। (ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ) ਸ੍ਰਾਪ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥੧੬੨॥
“He will die within seven days. This curse of mine will ever be rure.”6.162.
ਸ੍ਰਾਪਕੋਸੁਨਿਕੈਡਰਿਯੋਨ੍ਰਿਪਮੰਦ੍ਰਏਕਉਸਾਰ॥
(ਮੁਨੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਦਿੱਤੇ) ਸ੍ਰਾਪ (ਦੀ ਗੱਲ) ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਡਰ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਘਰ (ਮੰਦਿਰ) ਉਸਰਵਾਇਆ।
Coming to know about the curse, the king was frightened. He got and Abode constructed.
ਮਧਿਗੰਗਰਚਿਯੋਧਉਲਹਰਿਛੁਇਸਕੈਨਬਿਆਰ॥
(ਉਹ) ਚਿੱਟਾਂ ਰਾਜ-ਮਹੱਲ ਗੰਗਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਰਚਿਆ ਗਿਆ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਵਾਯੂ (ਬਿਆਰ) ਵੀ ਛੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ਸੀ।
That palace was constructed within the Ganges, which could not even be touched by air
ਸਰਪਕੀਤਹਗੰਮਤਾਕੋਕਾਟਿਹੈਤਿਹਜਾਇ॥
ਉਥੇ ਸੱਪ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕਿਥੇ, ਕਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕੱਟ ਸਕੇ।
How could the snake reach there and bite the king?
ਕਾਲਪਾਇਕਟ੍ਯੋਤਬੈਤਹਿਆਨਕੈਅਹਿਰਾਇ॥੭॥੧੬੩॥
(ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਵਕਤ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਸੱਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ (ਤੱਛਕ) ਨੇ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਥੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਡਸ ਲਿਆ ॥੭॥੧੬੩॥
But within the due time, the king snakes came there and bit (the king).7.163.
ਸਾਠਬਰਖਪ੍ਰਮਾਨਲਉਦੁਇਮਾਸਯੌਦਿਨਚਾਰ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਸੱਠ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ, ਦੋ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਤਕ (ਰਾਜ ਕੀਤਾ)
(The king Parikshat) ruled for sixty years, two months and four days.
ਜੋਤਿਜੋਤਿਬਿਖੈਰਲੀਨ੍ਰਿਪਰਾਜਕੀਕਰਤਾਰ॥
ਫਿਰ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਗਈ।
Then the light of the soul of the king Parikshat merged in the light of the Creator.
ਭੂਮਭਰਥਭਏਤਬੈਜਨਮੇਜਰਾਜਮਹਾਨ॥
ਤਦ ਭਰਤ-ਭੂਮੀ ਉਤੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਰਾਜਾ ਜਨਮੇਜਾ ਹੋਇਆ
Then the great king Janmeja become the Sustainer of the earth.
ਸੂਰਬੀਰਹਠੀਤਪੀਦਸਚਾਰਚਾਰਨਿਧਾਨ॥੮॥੧੬੪॥
ਜੋ ਸੂਰਵੀਰ, ਹਠੀ, ਤਪਸਵੀ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਤੇ ਚੌਦਾਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਤਾ ਸੀ ॥੮॥੧੬੪॥
He was a great hero, headstrong, ascetic and adept in eighteen learinings.8.164.
ਇਤਿਰਾਜਾਪ੍ਰੀਛਤਸਮਾਪਤੰਭਏਰਾਜਾਜਨਮੇਜਾਰਾਜਪਾਵਤਭਏ॥
ਇਥੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਛਤ (ਪਰੀਕਸ਼ਿਤ) ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਸਮਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ। ਰਾਜਾ ਜਨਮੇਜਾ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ

ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਜਨਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਜਨਮੇਜਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਰਾਜਾ (ਸਿੱਧ ਹੋਇਆ)।
Born in the house of a king, the great king Jammeja
ਸੂਰਬੀਰਹਠੀਤਪੀਦਸਚਾਰਚਾਰਨਿਧਾਨ॥
(ਉਹ) ਸੂਰਵੀਰ, ਹਠੀ, ਤਪਸਵੀ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ੧੪ ਵਿਦਿਆਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਤਾ ਸੀ।

ਪਿਤਰਕੇਬਧਕੋਪਤੇਸਬਬਿਪ੍ਰਲੀਨਬੁਲਾਇ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਬੱਧ (ਦਾ ਹਾਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ) ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ।
Being enraged at the death of his father, he called all the Brahmins
ਸਰਪਮੇਧਕਰਿਯੋਲਗੇਮਖਧਰਮਕੇਚਿਤਚਾਇ॥੧॥੧੬੫॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਬੱਧ ਦਾ ਬਦਲਾ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਉਪਾ ਪੁਛਿਆ। ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਰਪਮੇਧ-ਯੱਗ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਤਦ ਰਾਜਾ ਜਨਮੇਜਾ) ਸਰਪ-ਮੇਧ ਯੱਗ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰੇ ਸ਼ੌਕ ਨਾਲ ਲਗ ਗਿਆ ॥੧॥੧੬੫॥
And engaged himself in the performance of the snake-sacrifice in the zest of his mind for Dharma.1.165.
ਏਕਕੋਸਪ੍ਰਮਾਨਲਉਮਖਕੁੰਡਕੀਨਬਨਾਇ॥
ਇਕ ਕੋਹ ਤਕ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਯੱਗ-ਕੁੰਡ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ
The sacrificial pit was constructed within one kos.
ਮੰਤ੍ਰਸਕਤਕਰਨੈਲਗੇਤਹਿਹੋਮਬਿਪ੍ਰਬਨਾਇ॥
ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਮੰਤਰ-ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਲੋਕ ਹੋਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਗੇ।
After preparing the fire-altar, the Brahmins began to recite mantras methodically.
ਆਨਆਨਗਿਰੈਲਗੇਤਹਿਸਰਪਕੋਟਅਪਾਰ॥
ਉਸ (ਹਵਨ-ਕੁੰਡ ਵਿਚ) ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਸੱਪ ਆ ਆ ਕੇ ਡਿਗਣ ਲਗੇ।
Millions and innumerable serpents came to fall there in the fire.
ਜਤ੍ਰਤਤ੍ਰਉਠੀਜੈਤਧੁਨਭੂਮਭੂਰਉਦਾਰ॥੨॥੧੬੬॥
ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਭੂਮੀ ਉਤੇ ਧਰਮੀ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਜੈ-ਜੈਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਧੁਨੀ ਉਠਣ ਲਗੀ ॥੨॥੧੬੬॥
Here, there and everywhere resounded the strain of victory of the pious king.2.166.
ਹਸਤਏਕਦੂਹਸਤਤੀਨਚਉਹਸਤਪੰਚਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ॥
ਇਕ ਹੱਥ, ਦੋ ਹੱਥ, ਤਿੰਨ-ਚਾਰ ਹੱਥ, ਪੰਜ ਹੱਥ,
