ਉਲਰੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਕਵਚਾਂ (ਉਪਰ ਵਜਣ ਤੇ ਇੰਜ) ਠਣਕਾਰ (ਦੀ ਧੁਨੀ) ਕਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ
With the striking of swords on the armour, the clatter arises.
ਘਾੜਘੜਨਿਠਠਿਆਰੇਜਾਣਿਬਣਾਇਕੈ॥੩੫॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਠਠਿਆਰ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹੋਣ ॥੩੫॥
It seems that the tinkers are fashioning the vessels with the blows of hammer.35.

ਸੱਟਪਈਜਮਧਾਣੀਦਲਾਂਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ॥
ਦੂਹਰੇ ਧੌਂਸਿਆਂ ਉਪਰ ਸਟ ਪਈ ਅਤੇ ਫੌਜਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
When the trumpet enveloped by the hide of the male buffalo, the vehicle of Yama, sounded, the armies attacked each other.
ਘੂਮਰਬਰਗਸਤਾਣੀਦਲਵਿਚਿਘੱਤੀਓ॥
(ਦੇਵੀ ਨੇ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੇ) ਦਲ ਵਿਚ (ਅਜਿਹੀ) ਉਧੜ-ਧੁੰਮੀ ('ਘੁਮਰ') ਮਚਾਈ (ਕਿ) ਭਾਜੜਾਂ ('ਬਰਗਸਤਾਣੀ') ਪੈ ਗਈਆਂ।
(The goddess) was the cause of flight and consternation in the battlefield.
ਸਣੇਤੁਰਾਪਲਾਣੀਡਿੱਗਣਸੂਰਮੇ॥
(ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ) ਵਿਚ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਲਾਣਿਆਂ (ਲੋਹੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਝੁਲਾਂ) ਸਹਿਤ ਡਿਗ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
The warriors fall alongwith their horses and saddles.
ਉਠਿਉਠਿਮੰਗਣਿਪਾਣੀਘਾਇਲਘੂਮਦੇ॥
ਘਾਇਲ ਹੋਏ ਘੁੰਮਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਉਠ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਮੰਗ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
The wounded ones arise and ask for water while roaming.
ਏਵਡੁਮਾਰਵਿਹਾਣੀਉਪਰਿਰਾਕਸਾਂ॥
ਰਾਖਸ਼ਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਇਤਨੀ ਮਾਰ ਪਈ
Such a great calamity fell on the demons.

ਜਿਵੇਂ ਦੇਵੀ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ (ਦੈਂਤਾ ਦੇ ਦਲ ਉਤੇ) ਕੜਕ ਕੇ ਡਿਗੀ ਹੈ ॥੩੬॥
From this side the goddess rose like thundering lightning.36.

ਚੋਬੀਧਉਸਉਭਾਰੀਦਲਾਂਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ॥
ਨਗਾਰਚੀ ਨੇ ਨਗਾਰਾ ਗੁੰਜਾਇਆ ('ਉਭਾਰੀ') ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ੌਜਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
The drummer sounded the trumpet and the armies attacked each other.
ਸਭੋਸੈਨਾਮਾਰੀਪਲਵਿਚਿਦਾਨਵੀ॥
ਪਲ ਵਿਚ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਮਾਰੀ ਗਈ।
All the army of the demons was killed in an instant.
ਦੁਰਗਾਦਾਨੋਮਾਰੇਰੋਹੁਬਢਾਇਕੈ॥
ਦੁਰਗਾ ਨੇ ਰੋਹ ਵਧਾ ਕੇ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ (ਅਤੇ ਆਖੀਰ ਵਿਚ)
Highly infuriated, Durga killed the demons.
ਸਿਰਵਿਚਿਤੇਗਵਗਾਈਸ੍ਰਣਵਤਬੀਜਦੇ॥੩੭॥
ਰਕਤ-ਬੀਜ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੩੭॥
She struck the sword on the head of Sranwat Beej.37.
ਅਗਣਤਦਾਨੋਭਾਰੇਹੋਏਲੋਹੂਆ॥
ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਵਡੇ ਦੈਂਤ ਲਹੂ-ਲੁਹਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
Innumerable mighty demons were steeped in blood.
ਜੋਧੇਜੇਡਮੁਨਾਰੇਅੰਦਰਿਖੇਤਦੈ॥
ਰਣ-ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਯੋਧੇ ਮੁਨਾਰਿਆਂ ਜੇਡੇ (ਦਿਸ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਸਨ)।
Those minarets-like demons in the battlefield;
ਦੁਰਗਾਨੋਲਲਕਾਰੇਆਵਣਸਾਹਮਣੇ॥
(ਉਹ) ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਨੂੰ ਲਲਕਾਰਦੇ ਸਨ।
They challenged Durga and came in front of her.
ਦੁਰਗਾਸਭਿਸੰਘਾਰੇਰਾਕਸਆਂਵਦੇ॥
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਰਾਖਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਨੇ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Durga killed all the coming demons.
ਰਤੂਦੇਪਰਨਾਲੇਤਿਨਤੇਭੁਇਪਏ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ (ਸ਼ਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲਦੇ) ਲਹੂ ਦੇ ਪਰਨਾਲੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਪੈ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ
From their bodies the drains of blood fell on the ground.
ਉੱਠੇਕਾਰਣਆਰੇਰਾਕਸਹੜਹੜਾਇ॥੩੮॥
(ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਹੂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੋਰ) ਲੜਾਕੂ ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਠਾਹ ਠਾਹ ਹਸਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਠ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ॥੩੮॥
Some of the active demons arise out of them laughingly.38.
ਧਗਾਂਸੰਗਲੀਆਲੀਸੰਘਰਵਾਇਆ॥
ਸੰਗਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਨਗਾਰਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਜੰਗ ਦਾ ਨਾਦ ਨਿਕਲਿਆ।
The enchained trumpets and bugles sounded.
ਬਰਛੀਬੰਬਲੀਆਲੀਸੂਰੇਸੰਘਰੇ॥
ਫੁੰਮਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਬਰਛੀਆਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਕਰਨ ਲਗੇ।
The warriors fought with daggers bedecked with tassels.
ਭੇੜਮਚਿਆਬੀਰਾਲੀਦੁਰਗਾਦਾਨਵੀਂ॥
ਦੇਵੀ ਅਤੇ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਬਹਾਦਰੀ ('ਬੀਰਾਲੀ') ਵਾਲਾ ਯੁੱਧ ਮਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।
The war of bravery was waged between Durga and demos.
ਮਾਰਮਚੀਮੁਹਰਾਲੀਅੰਦਰਿਖੇਤਦੈ॥
ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਅਤਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਮਾਰ ਮਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ,
There had been extreme destruction in the battlefield.
ਜਣੁਨਟਲੱਥੇਛਾਲੀਢੋਲਬਜਾਇਕੈ॥
ਮਾਨੋ (ਸੂਰਮੇ) ਨਟਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਢੋਲ ਵਜਾ ਕੇ ਛਾਲਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਰਹੇ ਹੋਣ।
It appears that the actors, sounding their drum, have jumped into the war-arena.
ਲੋਹੂਫਾਥੀਜਾਲੀਲੋਥੀਂਜਮਧੜੀ॥
ਲੋਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਟਾਰਾਂ (ਜਮਧੜ) ਖੁਭੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਇੰਜ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਦੀ ਮੱਛਲੀ ਜਾਲੀ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੀ ਹੋਵੇ।
The dagger penetrated in the corpse seems like a blood stained fish entrapped in the net.
ਘਣਵਿਚਿਜਿਉਛੰਛਾਲੀਤੇਗਾਂਹੱਸੀਆਂ॥
ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ (ਇਉਂ) ਚਮਕ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਬਦਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬਿਜਲੀ (ਲਿਸ਼ਕਦੀ ਹੈ)। (ਜਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਵੀਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਸੋਭ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ
The swords glistened like the lightning in the clouds.
ਘੁੱਮਰਆਰਿਸਿਆਲੀਬਣੀਆਂਕੇਜਮਾਂ॥੩੯॥
(ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਸਿਆਲ ਦੀ ਰੁਤ ਵਿਚ (ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ) ਧੁੰਧ (ਘੁੰਮਰ ਆਰਿ) ਪਸਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ॥੩੯॥
The swords have covered (the battlefield) like the winter-fog.39.
ਧਗਾਂਸੂਲਿਬਜਾਈਆਂਦਲਾਂਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ॥
ਡੱਗੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਗਾਰਾ ਵਜਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਦਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
The trumpets were sounded with the beating of drum-stick and the armies attacked each other.
ਧੂਹਿਮਿਆਨੋਲਈਆਂਜੁਆਨੀਂਸੂਰਮੀਂ॥
ਬਲਵਾਨ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਨੇ (ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ) ਮਿਆਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਖਿਚ ਲਈਆਂ।
The youthful warriors pulled out their swords from their scabbards.
ਸ੍ਰਣਵਤਬੀਜਬਧਾਈਆਂਅਗਣਤਸੂਰਤਾਂ॥
ਰਕਤ-ਬੀਜ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੀਆਂ) ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਸੂਰਤਾਂ ਵਧਾ ਲਈਆਂ।
Sranwat Beej increased himself into innumerable forms.
ਦੁਰਗਾਸਉਹੇਂਆਈਆਂਰੋਹਬਢਾਇਕੈ॥
(ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸੂਰਤਾਂ) ਗੁੱਸਾ ਵਧਾ ਕੇ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
Which came in front of Durga, highly enraged.
ਸਭਨੀਆਣਵਗਾਈਆਂਤੇਗਾਂਧੂਹਿਕੈ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ) ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਖਿਚ ਕੇ (ਦੇਵੀ ਉਤੇ) ਚਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ।
All of them pulled out their swords and struck.
ਦੁਰਗਾਸਭਿਬਚਾਈਆਂਢਾਲਸੰਭਾਲਕੈ॥
ਦੁਰਗਾ ਨੇ ਢਾਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ।
Durga saved herself from all, holding her shield carefully.
ਦੇਵੀਆਪਚਲਾਈਆਂਤਕਿਤਕਿਦਾਨਵੀਂ॥
(ਫਿਰ) ਦੇਵੀ ਨੇ (ਦੈਂਤ-ਸੂਰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ) ਚਲਾਈਆਂ।
The goddess herself then struck her sword looking carefully toward the demons.
ਲੋਹੂਨਾਲਿਡੁਬਾਈਆਂਤੇਗਾਂਨੰਗੀਆਂ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੇ) ਲਹੂ ਨਾਲ ਨੰਗੀਆਂ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਿਉਂ ਲਈਆਂ।
She steeped her naked swords in blood.
ਸਾਰਸੁਤੀਜਨੁਨਾਈਆਂਮਿਲਕੈਦੇਵੀਆਂ॥
(ਇਉਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਮਾਨੋ ਦੇਵੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸਰਸਵਤੀ ਨਦੀ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਵੇ।

ਸਭੇਮਾਰਗਿਰਾਈਆਂਅੰਦਰਿਖੇਤਦੈ॥
(ਦੇਵੀ ਨੇ ਰਕਤਬੀਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸੂਰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਡਿਗਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
The goddess hath killed and thrown on the ground in the battlefield (all the forms of Sranwat Beej).
ਤਿੱਦੂੰਫੇਰਿਸਵਾਈਆਂਹੋਈਆਂਸੂਰਤਾਂ॥੪੦॥
(ਪਰ ਰਕਤ-ਬੀਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੂਰਤਾਂ) ਅਗੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੀ ਸਵਾਈਆਂ ਹੋ ਗਈਆਂ ॥੪੦॥
Immediately then the forms again increased greatly.40.

ਸੂਰੀਂਸੰਘਰੁਰਚਿਆਢੋਲਸੰਖਨਗਾਰੇਵਾਇਕੈ॥
ਸੂਰਵੀਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਢੋਲ, ਸੰਖ ਅਤੇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ਵਜਾ ਕੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
Sounding their drums, conches and trumpets, the warriors have begun the war.
ਚੰਡਿਚਿਤਾਰੀਕਾਲਕਾਮਨਬਾਹਲਾਰੋਸੁਬਢਾਇਕੈ॥
ਚੰਡੀ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹਤੁ ਰੋਹ ਵਧਾ ਕੇ ਕਾਲਕਾ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
