(ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ) ਰੋਹ ਦਾ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸੂਰਵੀਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਘੋੜੇ ਨਚਾਉਣੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ।

ਘੁਰੇਦਮਾਮੇਦੋਹਰੇਜਮਬਾਹਣਜਿਉਅਰੜਾਏ॥
ਦੋਹਰੇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ਗੂੰਜਣ ਲਗੇ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਝੋਟਾ ('ਜਮ-ਬਾਹਣ') ਅਰੜਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The double-trumpets sounded like the loud voice of the male buffalo, the vehicle of Yama.
ਦੇਉਦਾਨੋਲੁੱਝਣਆਏ॥੨੩॥
ਦੇਵਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਦੈਂਤ ਯੁੱਧ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਣ ਢੁਕੇ ॥੨੩॥

ਦਾਨੋਦੇਉਅਨਾਗੀਸੰਘਰੁਰਚਿਆ॥
ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਨਿਰੰਤਰ (ਬਿਨਾ ਨਾਗ਼ੇ ਦੇ) ਯੁੱਧ ਮਚਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
The demons and gods have started a continuous war.
ਫੁੱਲਖਿੜੇਜਣਬਾਗੀਂਬਾਣੇਜੋਧਿਆਂ॥
ਯੋਧਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਣੇ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਮਾਨੋ ਬਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਫੁਲ ਖਿੜੇ ਹੋਣ।
The garments of the warriors appear like flowers in the garden.
ਭੂਤਾਂਇੱਲਾਂਕਾਗੀਂਗੋਸ਼ਤਭਖਿਆ॥
ਭੂਤਾਂ, ਇਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਾਵਾਂ ਨੇ (ਖ਼ੂਬ) ਮਾਸ ਖਾਇਆ ਸੀ।
The ghosts, vultures and crows have eaten the flesh.
ਹੁੰਮੜਧੁੰਮੜਜਾਗੀਘੱਤੀਸੂਰਿਆਂ॥੨੪॥
ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੋਰ ਮਚਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ॥੨੪॥
The brave fighters have begun to run about.24.
ਸੱਟਪਈਨਗਾਰੇਦਲਾਂਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ॥
ਨਗਾਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਚੋਟ ਵਜੀ ਤਾਂ ਸੈਨਿਕ ਦਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਯੁੱਧ ਆਰੰਭ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
The trumpet was beaten and the armies attack each other.
ਦਿਤੇਦੇਉਭਜਾਈਮਿਲਿਕੈਰਾਕਸ਼ੀਂ॥
ਰਾਖਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਭਜਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
The demons have gathered together and have caused the gods to flee.
ਲੋਕੀਤਿਹੀਫਿਰਾਈਦੋਹੀਆਪਣੀ॥
(ਦੈਂਤਾ ਨੇ) ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਦੁਹਾਈ ਫਿਰਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
They exhibited their authority in the three worlds.
ਦੁਰਗਾਦੀਸਾਮਤਕਾਈਦੇਵਾਂਡਰਦਿਆਂ॥
ਭੈ-ਭੀਤ ਹੋਏ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ (ਸਾਮ) ਵਿਚ ਜਾਣਾ ਪਿਆ।
The gods, having been frightened went under the refuge of Durga.
ਆਂਦੀਚੰਡਿਚੜਾਈਉਤੇਰਾਕਸ਼ਾਂ॥੨੫॥
(ਅਤੇ) ਰਾਖਸ਼ਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਚੜ੍ਹਾ ਲਿਆਂਦੀ ॥੨੫॥
They caused the goddess Chandi to wage war with demons.25.

ਆਈਫੇਰਿਭਵਾਨੀਖਬਰੀਪਾਈਆਂ॥
ਭਵਾਨੀ ਫਿਰ ਆ ਗਈ। (ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ) ਸਮਾਚਾਰ (ਜਦੋਂ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ
The demons hear the news that the goddess Bhavani has come again.
ਦੈਤਵਡੇਅਭਿਮਾਨੀਹੋਏਏਕਠੇ॥
(ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ) ਵੱਡੇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਦੈਂਤ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
The highly egoist demons gathered together.
ਲੋਚਨਧੂਮਗੁਮਾਨੀਰਾਇਬੁਲਾਇਆ॥
(ਰਾਖਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ) ਰਾਜੇ (ਸੁੰਭ) ਨੇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਧੂਮ੍ਰ-ਲੋਚਨ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ
The king Sumbh sent for the egoist Lochan Dhum.
ਜਗਵਿਚਿਵਡਾਦਾਨੋਆਪਕਹਾਇਆ॥
(ਜੋ) ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਦੈਂਤ ਅਖਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ।
He caused himself to be called the great demon.
ਸੱਟਪਈਖਰਚਾਮੀਦੁਰਗਾਲਿਆਵਣੀ॥੨੬॥
(ਧੂਮ੍ਰਲੋਚਨ ਨੇ) ਦੂਹਰੇ ਨਗਾਰੇ (ਖਰਚਾਮੀ) ਉਤੇ ਸਟ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ (ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ) ਦੁਰਗਾ ਨੂੰ (ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ) ਲਿਆਉਣਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੬॥
The drum enveloped with the hide of donkey was struck and it was proclaimed that Durga would be brought.26.

ਕੜਕਉਠੀਰਣਚੰਡੀਫਉਜਾਂਦੇਖਿਕੈ॥
ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ (ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਫ਼ੌਜਾਂ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਕੜਕ ਉਠੀ।
Seeing the armies in the battlefield, Chandi shouted loudly.
ਧੂਹਿਮਿਆਨੋਖੰਡਾਹੋਈਸਾਹਮਣੇ॥
ਮਿਆਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਖੰਡਾ ਖਿਚ ਕੇ (ਦੈਂਤ ਦੇ) ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
She pulled her double-edged sword from her scabbard and came before the enemy.
ਸਭੇਬੀਰਸੰਘਾਰੇਧੂਮਰਨੈਣਦੇ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਧੂਮ੍ਰ ਨੈਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ; (ਇੰਜ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ)
She killed all the warriors of Dhumar Nain.
ਜਣੁਲੈਕਟੇਆਰੇਦਰਖਤਬਾਢੀਆਂ॥੨੭॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਤ੍ਰਖਾਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਰੇ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਕਟ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੋਣ ॥੨੭॥
It seems that the carpenters have chopped the trees with the saw.27.

ਚੋਬੀਧਉਂਸਬਜਾਈਦਲਾਂਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ॥
ਨਗਾਰਚੀ ('ਚੋਬੀ') ਨੇ ਧੌਂਸਾ ਵਜਾਇਆ, ਦਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ (ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ)।
The drummers sounded the drums and the armies attacked each other.
ਰੋਹਭਵਾਨੀਆਈਉਤੇਰਾਕਸਾਂ॥
ਦੁਰਗਾ ਵੀ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰਾਖਸਾਂ ਉਪਰ ਆ ਚੜ੍ਹੀ।
The infuriated Bhavani lodged the attack over the demons.
ਖੱਬੈਦਸਤਨਚਾਈਸ਼ੀਹਣਸਾਰਦੀ॥
(ਦੇਵੀ ਨੇ) ਖਬੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਹੇ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੇਰਨੀ (ਤਲਵਾਰ) ਨਚਾਈ
With her left hand, she caused the dance of the lionss of steel (sword).
ਬਹੁਤਿਆਂਦੇਤਨਲਾਈਕੀਤੀਰੰਗੁਲੀ॥
ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਰਾਂਗਲਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
She struck it on the bodies of many worriors and made it colourful.
ਭਾਈਆਂਮਾਰਨਭਾਈਦੁਰਗਾਜਾਣਿਕੈ॥
(ਘਮਸਾਨ ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿਚ ਅਤਿਅੰਤ ਮਗਨ ਪਰ ਘਬਰਾਏ ਹੋਏ) ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਰਾਖਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਦੇਵੀ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਮਾਰੀ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ।
The brothers kill brothers mistaking them for Durga.
ਰੋਹਹੋਇਚਲਾਈਰਾਕਸਰਾਇਨੂੰ॥
(ਦੇਵੀ ਨੇ) ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਰਾਜੇ (ਧੂਮ੍ਰ-ਨੈਨ) ਉਤੇ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਚਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
Having been infuriated, she struck it on the king of the demons.
ਜਮਪੁਰਦੀਆਪਠਾਈਲੋਚਨਧੂਮਨੂੰ॥
(ਫਲਸਰੂਪ) ਧੂਮ੍ਰ। ਨੈਨ ਨੂੰ ਯਮ-ਪੁਰੀ ਵਲ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Lochan Dhum was sent to the city of Yama.
ਜਾਪੇਦਿੱਤੀਸਾਈਮਾਰਨਸੁੰਭਦੀ॥੨੮॥
ਇੰਜ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸ਼ੁੰਭ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਾਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੨੮॥
It seems the she gave the advance money for the killing of Sumbh.28.
ਪਉੜੀ॥
ਭੰਨੇਦੈਤਪੁਕਾਰੇਰਾਜੇਸੁੰਭਥੈ॥
(ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਤੋਂ) ਭਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਰਾਜੇ ਸ਼ੁੰਭ ਕੋਲ (ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਪੁਕਾਰਨ ਲਗੇ
The demons ran to their king Sumbh and beseeched;
ਲੋਚਨਧੂਮਸੰਘਾਰੇਸਣੇਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ॥
ਕਿ (ਦੇਵੀ ਨੇ) ਧੂਮ੍ਰ-ਨੈਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
"Lochan Dhum has been killed alongwith his soldiers;
ਚੁਣਿਚੁਣਿਜੋਧੇਮਾਰੇਅੰਦਰਿਖੇਤਦੈ॥
(ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਰਣ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਚੁਣ ਚੁਣ ਕੇ (ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ) ਯੋਧੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਨ।
She hath seleted the warriors and killed them in the battlefield;
ਜਾਪਨਅੰਬਰਿਤਾਰੇਡਿੱਗਨਿਸੂਰਮੇ॥
(ਉਥੇ) ਸੂਰਮੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਡਿਗਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਤਾਰਿਆ ਜਿਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ।
It seems that the warriors have fallen like the stars from the sky;
ਗਿਰੇਪਰਬਤਭਾਰੇਮਾਰੇਬਿੱਜੁਦੇ॥
(ਜਾਂ ਫਿਰ) ਬਿਜਲੀ ਦੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਵਡੇ ਵਡੇ ਪਰਬਤ ਡਿਗੇ ਪਏ ਸਨ।
The huge mountains have fallen, having been smote by the lightning;
ਦੈਤਾਂਦੇਦਲਹਾਰੇਦਹਸ਼ਤਖਾਇਕੈ॥
(ਚੰਡੀ ਦੀ) ਦਹਿਸ਼ਤ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਲ ਹਾਰ ਗਏ ਸਨ।
The forces of the demons have been defeated on becoming panicky;
ਬਚੇਸੁਮਾਰੇਮਾਰੇਰਹਦੇਰਾਇਥੈ॥੨੯॥
(ਉਹੀ) ਬਚੇ ਸਨ ਜੋ ਮਾੜੇ ਸਨ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ) ਮਾੜੇ ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ (ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਵੀ ਮਾਰੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ) ॥੨੯॥
Those who were left have also been killed and the remaining have come to the king."29.
ਪਉੜੀ॥
ਰੋਹਹੋਇਬੁਲਾਏਰਾਕਸਰਾਇਨੈ॥
ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਰਾਜੇ (ਸ਼ੁੰਭ) ਨੇ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਕੇ (ਸਭ ਨੂੰ) ਬੋਲਾਇਆ।
Highly enraged, the king called the demons.
ਬੈਠੇਮਤਾਪਕਾਏਦੁਰਗਾਲਿਆਵਣੀ॥
(ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ) ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਸਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਦੁਰਗਾ (ਨੂੰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ) ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਜਾਏ।
They decided to capture Durga.
ਚੰਡਅਰਮੁੰਡਪਠਾਏਬਹੁਤਾਕਟਕੁਦੈ॥
(ਫਿਰ) ਚੰਡ ਅਤੇ ਮੁੰਡ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਲ) ਭੇਜਿਆ ਗਿਆ
Chand and Mund were sent with huge forces.
ਜਾਪੇਛੱਪਰਛਾਏਬਣੀਆਕੇਜਮਾਂ॥
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ) ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ (ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਇਉਂ) ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਾਨੋ ਛਪਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ।
It seemed that the swords coming together were like the thatched roofs.
ਜੇਤੇਰਾਇਬੁਲਾਏਚੱਲੇਜੁੱਧਨੋ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਬੁਲਾਏ ਸਨ, (ਉਹ) ਸਾਰੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਨੂੰ ਚਲ ਪਏ
All those who were called, marched for war.
ਜਣੁਜਮਪੁਰਿਪਕੜਿਚਲਾਏਸਭੇਮਾਰਣੇ॥੩੦॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਸਾਰਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਯਮਪੁਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੩੦॥
It appear that they were all caught and sent to the city of Yama for killing.30.

ਢੋਲਨਗਾਰੇਵਾਏਦਲਾਂਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ॥
(ਨਗਾਰਚੀਆਂ ਨੇ) ਢੋਲ ਅਤੇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ਵਜਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਦਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
The drums and trumpets were sounded and the armies attacked each other.
ਰੋਹਿਰੁਹੇਲੇਆਏਉਤੇਰਾਕਸਾਂ॥
ਰੋਹ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਉਥੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਆਏ।
The enraged warriors marched against the demons.
ਸਭਨੀਤੁਰੇਨਚਾਏਬਰਛੇਪਕੜਿਕੈ॥
ਸਭ ਨੇ ਬਰਛੀਆਂ ਪਕੜ ਕੇ ਘੋੜੇ ਨਚਾਏ।
All of them holding their daggers, caused their horses to dance.
ਬਹੁਤੇਮਾਰਿਗਿਰਾਏਅੰਦਰਿਖੇਤਦੈ॥
(ਦੇਵੀ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਬਹੁਤੇ ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਡਿਗਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
Many were killed and thrown in the battlefield.
ਤੀਰੀਂਛਹਬਰਲਾਈਬੁੱਠੀਦੇਵਤਾ॥੩੧॥
ਦੇਵੀ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਤੀਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਝੜੀ ਲਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ ॥੩੧॥
The arrows shot by the goddess came in showers.31.
ਭੇਰੀਂਸੰਖਵਜਾਏਸੰਘਰੁਰੱਚਿਆ॥
ਦੁਰਗਾ ਨੇ ਭੇਰੀਆਂ ਸੰਖ ਵਜਾ ਕੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ
The drums and conches were sounded and the war began.
