ਸਚੁਪੁਰਾਣਾਹੋਵੈਨਾਹੀਸੀਤਾਕਦੇਨਪਾਟੈ॥
(ਪਰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (-ਰੂਪ ਪਟੋਲਾ) ਕਦੇ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਸੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਦੇ ਪਾਟਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ (ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਟੁੱਟਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ)।
But the Truth does not grow old; and when it is stitched, it is never torn again.
ਨਾਨਕਸਾਹਿਬੁਸਚੋਸਚਾਤਿਚਰੁਜਾਪੀਜਾਪੈ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਖਸਮ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰੀਏ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, the Lord and Master is the Truest of the True. While we meditate on Him, we see Him. ||1||

First Mahalaa:
ਸਚਕੀਕਾਤੀਸਚੁਸਭੁਸਾਰੁ॥
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਛੁਰੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਛੁਰੀ ਦਾ) ਸਾਰਾ ਲੋਹਾ ਹੋਵੇ,
The knife is Truth, and its steel is totally True.
ਘਾੜਤਤਿਸਕੀਅਪਰਅਪਾਰ॥
ਉਸ ਛੁਰੀ ਦੀ ਘਾੜਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ;
Its workmanship is incomparably beautiful.
ਸਬਦੇਸਾਣਰਖਾਈਲਾਇ॥
ਇਹ ਛੁਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸਾਣ ਤੇ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਤੇਜ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
It is sharpened on the grindstone of the Shabad.
ਗੁਣਕੀਥੇਕੈਵਿਚਿਸਮਾਇ॥
ਤੇ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਿਆਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
It is placed in the scabbard of virtue.
ਤਿਸਦਾਕੁਠਾਹੋਵੈਸੇਖੁ॥
ਜੇ ਸ਼ੇਖ਼ ਇਸ ਛੁਰੀ ਦਾ ਕੁੱਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਜੇ 'ਸ਼ੇਖ਼' ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਘੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ)
If the Shaykh is killed with that,
ਲੋਹੂਲਬੁਨਿਕਥਾਵੇਖੁ॥
ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਲੱਬ-ਰੂਪ ਲਹੂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਨਿਕਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
then the blood of greed will spill out.
ਹੋਇਹਲਾਲੁਲਗੈਹਕਿਜਾਇ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹਲਾਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਕੁੱਠਾ ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who is slaughtered in this ritualistic way, will be attached to the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕਦਰਿਦੀਦਾਰਿਸਮਾਇ॥੨॥
ਤੇ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ (ਅੱਪੜ ਕੇ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, at the Lord's door, he is absorbed into His Blessed Vision. ||2||

First Mahalaa:
ਕਮਰਿਕਟਾਰਾਬੰਕੁੜਾਬੰਕੇਕਾਅਸਵਾਰੁ॥
ਲੱਕ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਕਟਾਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਤੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਘੋੜੇ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਰ ਹੋਵੇ,
A beautiful dagger hangs by your waist, and you ride such a beautiful horse.
ਗਰਬੁਨਕੀਜੈਨਾਨਕਾਮਤੁਸਿਰਿਆਵੈਭਾਰੁ॥੩॥
(ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮਾਣ ਨਾਹ ਕਰੀਏ, (ਕੀਹ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ) ਮਤਾਂ ਸਿਰ-ਭਾਰ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਏ ॥੩॥
But don't be too proud; O Nanak, you may fall head first to the ground. ||3||

Pauree:
ਸੋਸਤਿਸੰਗਤਿਸਬਦਿਮਿਲੈਜੋਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਚਲੈ॥
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਆ ਕੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
They alone walk as Gurmukh, who receive the Shabad in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.
ਸਚੁਧਿਆਇਨਿਸੇਸਚੇਜਿਨਹਰਿਖਰਚੁਧਨੁਪਲੈ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਧਨ ਹੈ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਲਈ) ਖ਼ਰਚ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Meditating on the True Lord, they become truthful; they carry in their robes the supplies of the Lord's wealth.
ਭਗਤਸੋਹਨਿਗੁਣਗਾਵਦੇਗੁਰਮਤਿਅਚਲੈ॥
ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The devotees look beautiful, singing the Praises of the Lord; following the Guru's Teachings, they become stable and unchanging.
ਰਤਨਬੀਚਾਰੁਮਨਿਵਸਿਆਗੁਰਕੈਸਬਦਿਭਲੈ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ।
They enshrine the jewel of contemplation within their minds, and the most sublime Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਆਪੇਮੇਲਿਮਿਲਾਇਦਾਆਪੇਦੇਇਵਡਿਆਈ॥੧੯॥
(ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਭਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੯॥
He Himself unites in His Union; He Himself grants glorious greatness. ||19||
ਸਲੋਕਮਃ੩॥
Shalok, Third Mahalaa:
ਆਸਾਅੰਦਰਿਸਭੁਕੋਕੋਇਨਿਰਾਸਾਹੋਇ॥
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਆਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ) ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਨਿੱਤ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ), ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਸਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Everyone is filled with hope; hardly anyone is free of hope.
ਨਾਨਕਜੋਮਰਿਜੀਵਿਆਸਹਿਲਾਆਇਆਸੋਇ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਸਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਟ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ) ਜੀਵਨ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਉਣਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, blessed is the birth of one, who remains dead while yet alive. ||1||

Third Mahalaa:
ਨਾਕਿਛੁਆਸਾਹਥਿਹੈਕੇਉਨਿਰਾਸਾਹੋਇ॥
'ਆਸਾ' ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਤਾਕਤ ਨਹੀਂ (ਕਿ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫਸਾ ਸਕੇ; ਸੋ, ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਲ ਭੀ) ਮਨੁੱਖ 'ਆਸਾ' ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਚ ਸਕਦਾ।
Nothing is in the hands of hope. How can one become free of hope?
ਕਿਆਕਰੇਏਹਬਪੁੜੀਜਾਂਭੋੁਲਾਏਸੋਇ॥੨॥
ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰੀ 'ਆਸਾ' ਕੀਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ? ਭੁਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
What can this poor being do? The Lord Himself creates confusion. ||2||

Pauree:
ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁਜੀਵਣੁਸੰਸਾਰਸਚੇਨਾਮਬਿਨੁ॥
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਜੀਊਣਾ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ।
Cursed is the life in this world, without the True Name.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁਦਾਤਾਦਾਤਾਰਨਿਹਚਲੁਏਹੁਧਨੁ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਦਾ) ਦਾਤਾ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ; ਸੋ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ (ਨਾਮ-) ਧਨ ਹੀ (ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ) ਕਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
God is the Great Giver of givers. His wealth is permanent and unchanging.
ਸਾਸਿਸਾਸਿਆਰਾਧੇਨਿਰਮਲੁਸੋਇਜਨੁ॥
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ (ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
That humble being is immaculate, who worships the Lord with each and every breath.
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀਅਗਮੁਰਸਨਾਏਕੁਭਨੁ॥
ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੋ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ।
With your tongue, vibrate the One Inaccessible Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
ਰਵਿਰਹਿਆਸਰਬਤਿਨਾਨਕੁਬਲਿਜਾਈ॥੨੦॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ॥੨੦॥
He is all-pervading everywhere. Nanak is a sacrifice to Him. ||20||
ਸਲੋਕੁਮਃ੧॥
Shalok, First Mahalaa:
ਸਰਵਰਹੰਸਧੁਰੇਹੀਮੇਲਾਖਸਮੈਏਵੈਭਾਣਾ॥
(ਗੁਰੂ-) ਸਰੋਵਰ ਅਤੇ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖ-) ਹੰਸ ਦਾ ਜੋੜ ਮੁੱਢੋਂ ਹੀ ਚਲਿਆ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਗੱਲ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ।
The union between the lake of the True Guru, and the swan of the soul, was pre-ordained from the very beginning, by the Pleasure of the Lord's Will.
ਸਰਵਰਅੰਦਰਿਹੀਰਾਮੋਤੀਸੋਹੰਸਾਕਾਖਾਣਾ॥
ਹੰਸਾਂ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ) ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ-ਰੂਪ) ਹੀਰੇ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਗੁਰੂ-) ਸਰੋਵਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
The diamonds are in this lake; they are the food of the swans.
ਬਗੁਲਾਕਾਗੁਨਰਹਈਸਰਵਰਿਜੇਹੋਵੈਅਤਿਸਿਆਣਾ॥
ਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਬਗੁਲਾ (ਮਨਮੁਖ) ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿਤਨਾ ਹੀ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਓਥੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ,
The cranes and the ravens may be very wise, but they do not remain in this lake.
ਓਨਾਰਿਜਕੁਨਪਇਓਓਥੈਓਨੑਾਹੋਰੋਖਾਣਾ॥
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਕਾਂ ਬਗੁਲੇ ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ) ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਓਥੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
They do not find their food there; their food is different.
ਸਚਿਕਮਾਣੈਸਚੋਪਾਈਐਕੂੜੈਕੂੜਾਮਾਣਾ॥
ਜੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ-ਰੂਪ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ) ਕੂੜ ਦੀ ਖੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਕੂੜਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
Practicing Truth, the True Lord is found. False is the pride of the false.
ਨਾਨਕਤਿਨਕੌਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਮਿਲਿਆਜਿਨਾਧੁਰੇਪੈਯਾਪਰਵਾਣਾ॥੧॥
(ਪਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (-ਸਰੋਵਰ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, they alone meet the True Guru, who are so pre-destined by the Lord's Command. ||1||

First Mahalaa:
ਸਾਹਿਬੁਮੇਰਾਉਜਲਾਜੇਕੋਚਿਤਿਕਰੇਇ॥
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ (-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਭੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
My Lord and Master is immaculate, as are those who think of Him.
ਨਾਨਕਸੋਈਸੇਵੀਐਸਦਾਸਦਾਜੋਦੇਇ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
O Nanak, serve Him, who gives to you forever and ever.
ਨਾਨਕਸੋਈਸੇਵੀਐਜਿਤੁਸੇਵਿਐਦੁਖੁਜਾਇ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
O Nanak, serve Him; by serving Him, sorrow is dispelled.
ਅਵਗਣਵੰਞਨਿਗੁਣਰਵਹਿਮਨਿਸੁਖੁਵਸੈਆਇ॥੨॥
ਅਉਗਣ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਣ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
Faults and demerits vanish, and virtues take their place; peace comes to dwell in the mind. ||2||
ਪਉੜੀ॥
Pauree:
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਆਪਿਤਾੜੀਲਾਈਅਨੁ॥
(ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਪਤ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ)।
He Himself is all-pervading; He Himself is absorbed in the profound state of Samaadhi.
ਆਪੇਹੀਉਪਦੇਸਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪਤੀਆਈਅਨੁ॥
(ਗੁਰੂ-ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਿਆਇਆ ਹੈ।
He Himself instructs; the Gurmukh is satisfied and fulfilled.
ਇਕਿਆਪੇਉਝੜਿਪਾਇਅਨੁਇਕਿਭਗਤੀਲਾਇਅਨੁ॥
ਕਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
Some, He causes to wander in the wilderness, while others are committed to His devotional worship.
ਜਿਸੁਆਪਿਬੁਝਾਏਸੋਬੁਝਸੀਆਪੇਨਾਇਲਾਈਅਨੁ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹੀ (ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ) ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਈ ਹੈ।
He alone understands, whom the Lord causes to understand; He Himself attaches mortals to His Name.
ਨਾਨਕਨਾਮੁਧਿਆਈਐਸਚੀਵਡਿਆਈ॥੨੧॥੧॥ਸੁਧੁ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੈ ॥੨੧॥੧॥ਸੁਧੁ ॥
