ਖੰਡਭਏਜੁਅਖੰਡਲਤੇਨਹਿਜੀਤਿਫਿਰੇਬਸੁਧਾਨਵਖੰਡਾ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਨੌ ਖੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਤਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਇੰਦਰ ('ਅਖੰਡਲ') ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਖੰਡਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
They had conquered the nine continents, which (previously) could not be won over by the warriors of the Continents themselves.
ਤੇਜੁਤਕੋਪਗਿਰੇਬਨਿਓਪਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਕੇਕੀਨੇਕੀਏਕਟਿਖੰਡਾ॥੨੫॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਲੀ ਨੇ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਨਾਲ ਟੋਟੇ ਟੋਟੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੁਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੫॥
But they could not stand to face furious goddess Kali, and fell down cut into pieces.(25)

ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਵਰਣਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
Kali brandished the sword in her hand,
ਤਿਹਤੇਜੁਲਖੇਭਟਯੌਭਟਕੇ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਤੇਜ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭਜ ਗਏ
The heroes took to their heels
ਮਨੋਸੂਰਚੜਿਯੋਉਡਸੇਸਟਕੇ॥੨੬॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਨ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਰੇ ਲੁਕ ਗਏ ਹੋਣ ॥੨੬॥
The way the stars hide themselves when the Sun becomes apparent.(26)
ਕੁਪਿਕਾਲਿਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਕਰੰਗਹਿਕੈ॥
ਕਾਲੀ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਾਲ

ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਲ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਦ ਪਈ,

ਘਟਿਕਾਇਕਬੀਚਸਭੋਹਨਿਹੌਂ॥
ਇਹ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਕਿ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਸੁਟਾਂਗੀ
She proclaimed to exterminate all the champions in a single stroke,
ਤੁਮਤੇਨਹਿਏਕਬਲੀਗਨਿਹੌਂ॥੨੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਵੀ ਬਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿਣ ਦਿਆਂਗੀ ॥੨੭॥
And would leave none to become eminent combatants.(27)

ਮੰਦਲਤੂਰਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗਮੁਚੰਗਨਕੀਧੁਨਿਕੈਲਲਕਾਰਿਪਰੇ॥
ਢੋਲ, ਤੂਰ, ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਚੰਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੁਨੀ ਨਾਲ (ਸੂਰਮੇ) ਲਲਕਾਰ ਕੇ ਪੈ ਗਏ।
To the beats of Nigara, Mirdang, Muchang and other drums, the dauntless ones flung forward.
ਅਰੁਮਾਨਭਰੇਮਿਲਿਆਨਿਅਰੇਨਗੁਮਾਨਕੌਛਾਡਿਕੈਪੈਗੁਟਰੇ॥
(ਉਹ) ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ, ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਆ ਡਟੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਕਦਮ ਪਿਛੇ ਹਟਾਂਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।
Filled with self-esteem and confidence, they did not take even one step back.
ਤਿਨਕੇਜਮਜਦਿਪਪ੍ਰਾਨਹਰੇਨਮੁਰੇਤਬਲੌਇਹਭਾਤਿਅਰੇ॥
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਜਮ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਹਰ ਲਏ ਹੋਣ, ਤਦ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਮੁੜਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, (ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਡਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
The angel of death tried to take their lives away, but they remained in the combats, undeterred.
ਜਸਕੋਕਰਿਕੈਨਚਲੇਡਰਿਕੈਲਰਿਕੈਮਰਿਕੈਭਵਸਿੰਧਤਰੇ॥੨੮॥
(ਉਹ) ਭੈ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਜਸ ਖਟ ਕੇ ਲੜਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਭਵ-ਸਾਗਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਤਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੨੮॥
They were fighting free of dread, and with glories ferried across (the temporal existence).(28)
ਜੇਨਮਿਟੇਬਿਕਟੇਭਟਕਾਹੂਸੋਂਬਾਸਵਸੌਕਬਹੂੰਨਪਛੇਲੇ॥
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਵਿਕਟ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਟੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਇੰਦਰ ('ਬਾਸਵ') ਵਰਗੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪਿਛੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਧਕ ਸਕੇ ਸਨ।
The heroes who did not succumbed to death, and who could not be subjugated even by Indra, jumped into the fight,
ਤੇਗਰਜੇਜਬਹੀਰਨਮੈਗਨਭਾਜਿਚਲੇਬਿਨੁਆਪੁਅਕੇਲੇ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਗਜੇ ਤਾਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਾਲੀ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਭਜ ਗਏ।
Then, O Goddess Kali, without your help, all the brave (enemies) took to their heels.
ਤੇਕੁਪਿਕਾਲਿਕਟੇਝਟਕੈਕਦਲੀਬਨਜ੍ਯੋਂਧਰਨੀਪਰਮੇਲੇ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਲੀ ਨੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਟ ਕੇ ਸੁਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੇਲੇ ਦੇ ਬਨ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ (ਕਟ ਕੇ) ਵਿਛਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Kali, herself, decapitated them like the banana trees are cropped, and they are thrown on the earth,
ਸ੍ਰੋਨਰੰਗੀਨਭਏਪਟਮਾਨਹੁਫਾਗੁਸਮੈਸਭਚਾਚਰਿਖੇਲੇ॥੨੯॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਲਹੂ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੇ ਗਏ, ਮਾਨੋ ਹੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਭ ਗਿੱਧਾ ਪਾ ਰਹੇ ਹੋਣ ॥੨੯॥
And their garments, drenched in blood, depicted the effect of Holi, the Festival of Colours.(29)

With eyes full of fire like copper
ਮਤਭਈਮਦਰਾਭਏਬਕਤਅਟਪਟੇਬੈਨ॥੩੦॥
ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਮਦ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਅਟਪਟੇ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲਣ ਲਗ ਗਈ ਸੀ ॥੩੦॥

(ਦੇਵੀ ਨੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲੇ ਕਿ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਮੈਂ) ਛਿਣ ਭਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਰ ਦਿਆਂਗੀ।
‘I will invalidate all the enemies in an instant,’ thus thinking she was filled with wrath,
ਤਰਵਾਰਿਸੰਭਾਰਿਮਹਾਬਲਧਾਰਿਧਵਾਇਕੈਸਿੰਘਧਸੀਰਨਮੈ॥
ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕੇ, ਮਹਾਨ ਬਲ ਨੂੰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਭਜਾ ਕੇ ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਧਸ ਗਈ।
Brandishing the sword, mounting the lion, she forced herself into the battlefield.
ਜਗਮਾਤਕੇਆਯੁਧੁਹਾਥਨਮੈਚਮਕੈਐਸੇਦੈਤਨਕੇਗਨਮੈ॥
ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਝੁੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਜਗ ਮਾਤ (ਦੇਵੀ) ਦੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਚਮਕ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ,
The weapons of the Matriarch of the Universe sparkled in the flocks
ਲਪਕੈਝਪਕੈਬੜਵਾਨਲਕੀਦਮਕੈਮਨੋਬਾਰਿਧਕੇਬਨਮੈ॥੩੧॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਬਨ ਵਿਚ ਬੜਵਾਨਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਾਟਾਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹੋਣ ॥੩੧॥
Of demons, like the sea-waves swinging in the sea.(31)
ਕੋਪਅਖੰਡਕੈਚੰਡਿਪ੍ਰਚੰਡਮਿਆਨਤੇਕਾਢਿਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਗਹੀ॥
ਅਖੰਡ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਨੇ ਮਿਆਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਕਢ ਲਈ।
Flying in rage, in fury, the goddess unsheathed the passionate sword.
ਦਲਦੇਵਔਦੈਤਨਕੀਪ੍ਰਤਿਨਾਲਖਿਤੇਗਛਟਾਛਬਰੀਝਰਹੀ॥
ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੈਨਾ ('ਪ੍ਰਤਿਨਾ') ਤੇਗ ਦੀ ਛਬੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
Both, the deities and demons were bewildered to see the grace of the sword.
ਸਿਰਚਿਛੁਰਕੇਇਹਭਾਤਿਪਰੀਨਹਿਮੋਤੇਪ੍ਰਭਾਤਿਹਜਾਤਕਹੀ॥
(ਉਹ) ਚਿਛੁਰ ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
It struck such a blow on the head of Devil Chakharshuk that I could not narrate.
ਰਿਪੁਮਾਰਿਕੈਫਾਰਿਪਹਾਰਸੇਬੈਰੀਪਤਾਰਲਗੇਤਰਵਾਰਿਬਹੀ॥੩੨॥
(ਉਹ) ਤਲਵਾਰ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਪਹਾੜ ਜੇਡੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਫਾੜ ਕੇ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਵਜੀ ॥੩੨॥
The sword, slaying the enemies, flew up the mountains and, slaying the enemies, reached supernal region.(32)

The gun, the axe, the bow and the sword were sparkling,
ਧੁਜਾਪਤਾਕਾਫਰਹਰੈਭਾਨਨਹੇਰੇਜਾਹਿ॥੩੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਧੁਜਾ ਤੇ ਝੰਡੇ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਝੁਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਸੂਰਜ ਵੀ ਵਿਖਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩੩॥
And small banners were waving in such intensity that the Sun had become invisible.(33)
ਰਨਮਾਰੂਬਾਜੈਘਨੇਗਗਨਗੀਧਮੰਡਰਾਹਿ॥
ਰਣ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਾਰੂ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਰਝਾਂ ਮੰਡਰਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ
Thundering and fatalist trumpets blew and the vultures started to hover in the sky.
ਚਟਪਟਦੈਜੋਧਾਬਿਕਟਝਟਪਟਕਟਿਕਟਿਜਾਹਿ॥੩੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਵਿਕਟ ਯੋਧੇ ਝਟਪਟ ਕਟੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ (ਡਿਗ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ) ॥੩੪॥
(Supposedly) indestructible braves began to topple over in a flash.(34)
ਅਨਿਕਤੂਰਭੇਰੀਪ੍ਰਣਵਗੋਮੁਖਅਨਿਕਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ॥
ਭੇਰੀ, ਤੂਰ, ਪ੍ਰਣਵ, ਗੋਮੁਖ, ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ,
Bhairi, Bhravan, Mirdang, Sankh, Vajas, Murlis, Murjs, Muchangs,
ਸੰਖਬੇਨੁਬੀਨਾਬਜੀਮੁਰਲੀਮੁਰਜਮੁਚੰਗ॥੩੫॥
ਸੰਖ, ਬੇਨ, ਬੀਨਾ, ਮੁਰਲੀ, ਮੁਰਜ, ਮੁਚੰਗ ਆਦਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਣ ਲਗ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੩੫॥
The musical instrument of various types commenced to blow. 35
ਨਾਦਨਫੀਰੀਕਾਨਰੇਦੁੰਦਭਬਜੇਅਨੇਕ॥
ਨਫ਼ੀਰੀ, ਕਾਨਰੇ, ਦੁੰਦਭ ਆਦਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਨਾਦਕਾਰੀ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
Listening to Nafiris and Dundlis the warriors started to fight
ਸੁਨਿਮਾਰੂਕਾਤਰਭਿਰੇਰਨਤਜਿਫਿਰਿਯੋਨਏਕ॥੩੬॥
(ਰਣ) ਵਿਚ ਮਾਰੂ (ਨਗਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼) ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਡਰਪੋਕ ਵੀ ਲੜਨ ਲਗ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਿਸਕਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੩੬॥
Among themselves and none could escape.(36)
ਕਿਚਪਚਾਇਜੋਧਾਮੰਡਹਿਲਰਹਿਸਨੰਮੁਖਆਨ॥
ਕਚੀਚੀਆਂ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਕਰਨ ਲਗੇ ਹਨ।
Gnashing their teeth, the enemies came face to face.
ਧੁਕਿਧੁਕਿਪਰੈਕਬੰਧਭੂਅਸੁਰਪੁਰਕਰੈਪਯਾਨ॥੩੭॥
ਧੜ ਉਛਲ ਉਛਲ ਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਡਿਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਵਰਗ ਨੂੰ ਚਲੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ॥੩੭॥
The (decapitated) heads sprung up, rolled down, and (the souls) departed for the heavens.(37)
ਰਨਫਿਕਰਤਜੰਬੁਕਫਿਰਹਿਆਸਿਖਅਚਵਤਪ੍ਰੇਤ॥
ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਦੜ ਹੌਂਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਮਾਸ ਖਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
The jackals came to roam in the battlefield and the ghosts went around licking the blood.
ਗੀਧਮਾਸਲੈਲੈਉਡਹਿਸੁਭਟਨਛਾਡਹਿਖੇਤ॥੩੮॥
ਗਿਰਝਾਂ ਮਾਸ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਡ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਯੋਧੇ ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਛਡ ਰਹੇ ॥੩੮॥
The vultures pounced down and flew away tearing the flesh. (In spite of all that) the heroes did not abandon the fields.(38)

ਧੌਂਸੇ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਅਤੇ ਡਮਰੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਡਹਿ ਡਹਿ ਅਤੇ ਦਮਾਮਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਦੈ ਦੈ ਨੇੜੇ ਆ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
The ones who were protagonists of the tabor’s noises and the beats of the drums,
ਭੂਰਦਈਤਨਕੋਦਲਦਾਰੁਨਦੀਹਹੁਤੇਕਰਿਏਕਨਜਾਨੇ॥
ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਭਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਦਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡੇ ਸਨ, ਪਰ (ਹੇ ਦੇਵੀ!) ਤੂੰ ਇਕ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ।
Who had looked down upon the enemies, were the conquerors of the
