DOHRA
ਅਗਨਤਮਾਰੇਗਨੈਕੋਭਜੈਜੁਸੁਰਕਰਿਤ੍ਰਾਸ॥
ਅਣਗਿਣਤ (ਦੇਵਤੇ) ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ, (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਕੌਣ ਗਿਣੇ? ਜਿਹੜੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਡਰ ਕੇ ਭਜੇ ਸਨ
Innumerable gods were killed and innumerable ran away in fear.
ਧਾਰਿਧਿਆਨਮਨਸਿਵਾਕੋਤਕੀਪੁਰੀਕੈਲਾਸ॥੧੯॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਰਗਾ ('ਸਿਵਾ') ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰ ਕੇ ਕੈਲਾਸ਼-ਪੁਰੀ ਜਾ ਤਕੀ ॥੧੯॥
All (the remaining) gods, meditating on Shiva, went towards Kailash mountain.19.
ਦੇਵਨਕੋਧਨੁਧਾਮਸਭਦੈਤਨਲੀਓਛਿਨਾਇ॥
ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਨ ਅਤੇ ਧਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਖੋਹ ਲਿਆ।
The demons seized all the abodes and wealth of gods.
ਦਏਕਾਢਿਸੁਰਧਾਮਤੇਬਸੇਸਿਵਪੁਰੀਜਾਇ॥੨੦॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਅਰਗ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ('ਸਿਵਪੁਰੀ') ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਗੇ ॥੨੦॥
They drove them out of the city of gods, the gods then came to live in the city of Shiva.20.
ਕਿਤਕਿਦਿਵਸਬੀਤੇਤਹਾਨ੍ਹਾਵਨਨਿਕਸੀਦੇਵਿ॥
(ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਭਜਾਏ ਹੋਏ) ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਸ਼ਿਵ ਪੁਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆਂ) ਜਦੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਦਿਨ ਬੀਤ ਗਏ, (ਤਦੋਂ ਇਕ ਦਿਨ) ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਦੇਵੀ (ਨਦੀ ਉਪਰ) ਆ ਨਿਕਲੀ।
After several days goddess came to take a bath there.
ਬਿਧਿਪੂਰਬਸਭਦੇਵਤਨਕਰੀਦੇਵਿਕੀਸੇਵ॥੨੧॥
ਸਭ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਵਿਧੀ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ ॥੨੧॥
All the gods, according to the prescribed method, made obeisance to her.21.

ਕਰੀਹੈਹਕੀਕਤਿਮਾਲੂਮਖੁਦਦੇਵੀਸੇਤੀਲੀਆਮਹਖਾਸੁਰਹਮਾਰਾਛੀਨਧਾਮਹੈ॥
(ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ) ਖੁਦ ਦੇਵੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਦਸੀ ਕਿ ਮਹਿਖਾਸੁਰ ਨੇ ਸਾਡਾ ਘਰ ਖੋਹ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
The gods told the goddess all their occurrences sating that the demon-king Mahishaura had seized all their abodes.
ਕੀਜੈਸੋਈਬਾਤਮਾਤਤੁਮਕਉਸੁਹਾਤਸਭਸੇਵਕਿਕਦੀਮਤਕਿਆਏਤੇਰੀਸਾਮਹੈ॥
ਹੇ ਮਾਤਾ! ਓਹੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰੋ ਜੋ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲਗਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਅਸੀਂ) ਸਾਰੇ (ਤੁਹਾਡੇ) ਮੁੱਢ ਕਦੀਮ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਤਕ ਕੇ ਆਏ ਹਾਂ।
They said, “O mother, Thou mayest do whatever pleasest Thee, we have all come to seek Thy refuge.
ਦੀਜੈਬਾਜਿਦੇਸਹਮੈਮੇਟੀਐਕਲੇਸਲੇਸਕੀਜੀਏਅਭੇਸਉਨੈਬਡੋਯਹਕਾਮਹੈ॥
ਸਾਨੂੰ (ਸਾਡਾ) ਦੇਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਘਰ-ਬਾਰ ਵਾਪਸ ਕਰਾ ਦਿਉ ਅਤੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਮਿਟਾ ਦਿਉ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਬੇਹਾਲ (ਅਭੇਸ) ਕਰ ਦਿਉ, ਇਹੀ (ਸਾਡਾ) ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ।
“Please get us back our abodes, remove our suffering and make those demons garbles and wealthless. This is a very great task which can only be accomplished by Thee.
ਕੂਕਰਕੋਮਾਰਤਨਕੋਊਨਾਮਲੈਕੇਤਾਹਿਮਾਰਤਹੈਤਾਕੋਲੈਕੇਖਾਵੰਦਕੋਨਾਮਹੈ॥੨੨॥
ਕੁੱਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਦਿਆਂ ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਸਗੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਦਿਆਂ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੨॥
“No one beats or talks ill to the dog, only his master is rebuked and censured.”22.

ਸੁਨਤਬਚਨਏਚੰਡਿਕਾਮਨਮੈਉਠੀਰਿਸਾਇ॥
ਇਹ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਹੋ ਉਠੀ (ਅਤੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗੀ)
Hearing These words, Chandika was filled with great rage in her mind.
ਸਭਦੈਤਨਕੋਛੈਕਰਉਬਸਉਸਿਵਪੁਰੀਜਾਇ॥੨੩॥
ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਿਵ-ਪੁਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਗੀ ॥੨੩॥
She said, “I shall destroy all the demons, go and abide in the city of Shiva.23.
ਦੈਤਨਕੇਬਧਕੋਜਬੈਚੰਡੀਕੀਓਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ॥
ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਚੰਡੀ ਨੇ (ਪ੍ਰਤਿਗਿਆ) ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕੀਤੀ
When the idea of destroying the demons was given by Chandi
ਸਿੰਘਸੰਖਅਉਅਸਤ੍ਰਸਭਸਸਤ੍ਰਆਇਗੇਪਾਸਿ॥੨੪॥
(ਤਦੋਂ) ਸਿੰਘ, ਸੰਖ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ (ਉਸ) ਕੋਲ ਆ ਗਏ ॥੨੪॥
The lion, conch and all other weapons and arms came themselves to her.24.
ਦੈਤਸੰਘਾਰਨਕੇਨਮਿਤਕਾਲਜਨਮੁਇਹਲੀਨ॥
ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਾਲ ਹੀ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਜਨਮ ਲਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ।
It seemed that Death itself had taken the birth to destroy the demons.
ਸਿੰਘਚੰਡਿਬਾਹਨਭਇਓਸਤ੍ਰਨਕਉਦੁਖੁਦੀਨ॥੨੫॥
ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਸਿੰਘ ਚੰਡੀ ਦਾ ਵਾਹਨ ਬਣਿਆ ॥੨੫॥
The lion, who causes great suffering to the enemies, became the vehicle of the goddess Chandi.25.

ਦਾਰੁਨਦੀਰਘੁਦਿਗਜਸੇਬਲਿਸਿੰਘਹਿਕੇਬਲਸਿੰਘਧਰੇਹੈ॥
(ਦੇਵੀ ਦਾ ਵਾਹਨ) ਸ਼ੇਰ ਦਿਗਜ (ਦਿਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਾਥੀ) ਜਿੰਨਾ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਅਤੇ ਵਡੇ ਆਕਾਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬੱਬਰ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਬਲ ਹੈ।
The terrible form of the lion is like an elephant, he is mighty like a big lion.
ਰੋਮਮਨੋਸਰਕਾਲਹਿਕੇਜਨਪਾਹਨਪੀਤਪੈਬ੍ਰਿਛਹਰੇਹੈ॥
(ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਵਾਲ ਮਾਨੋ ਕਾਲ ਦੇ ਤੀਰ ਹੋਣ ਅਥਵਾ ਪੀਲੇ ਪਹਾੜ ਉਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਖੜੋਤੇ ਹੋਣ।
The hair of the lion are like arrows and appear as trees growing on a yellow mountain.
ਮੇਰਕੇਮਧਿਮਨੋਜਮਨਾਲਰਿਕੇਤਕੀਪੁੰਜਪੈਭ੍ਰਿੰਗਢਰੇਹੈ॥
(ਪਿਠ ਉਤੇ ਕਾਲੇ ਵਾਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਕੀਰ ਇੰਜ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਮਾਨੋ ਸੁਮੇਰ ਪਰਬਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਯਮਨਾ ਦੀ ਧਾਰ (ਨਿਕਲਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ) ਅਤੇ (ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਾਲੇ ਦਾਗ਼) ਮਾਨੋ ਪੀਲੀ ਚਮੇਲੀ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੁਛਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਭੌਰੇ ਲਿਪਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਣ।
The back-line of the lion looks like the current of Yamuna on the mountain, and the black hair on his body appear like the black bees on the flower of Ketki.
ਮਾਨੋਮਹਾਪ੍ਰਿਥਲੈਕੇਕਮਾਨਸੁਭੂਧਰਭੂਮਤੇਨਿਆਰੇਕਰੇਹੈ॥੨੬॥
(ਸ਼ੇਰ ਦੇ ਸੁਡੌਲ ਅੰਗ ਇੰਜ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਮਾਨੋ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਪ੍ਰਿਥੂ ਨੇ ਕਮਾਨ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਬਤ ਵਖਰੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਰਖੇ ਹੋਣ ॥੨੬॥
Various sinewy limbs seem like the action of king Prithy of segregating the mountains from the earth by raising his bow and shootin with all his might.26.

(ਚੰਡੀ ਨੇ) ਘੰਟਾ, ਗਦਾ, ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ੂਲ, ਤਲਵਾਰ, ਸੰਖ, ਕਮਾਨ, ਬਾਣ
The gong, mace trident, sword, conch, bow and arrows
ਚਕ੍ਰਬਕ੍ਰਕਰਮੈਲੀਏਜਨੁਗ੍ਰੀਖਮਰਿਤੁਭਾਨੁ॥੨੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਚੱਕਰ (ਆਦਿ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫੜ ਲਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਇਤਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੋਣ ਲਗਿਆ ਹੈ) ਮਾਨੋ ਗਰਮੀ ਦੀ ਰੁਤ ਦਾ ਸੂਰਜ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੨੭॥
Alongwith the terrible disc-the godess took all these weapons in her hands they have created the atmosphere like summer’s sun.27.
ਚੰਡਕੋਪਕਰਿਚੰਡਿਕਾਏਆਯੁਧਕਰਿਲੀਨ॥
ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕਰਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਨੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਹਥਿਆਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆ
In fierce rage, Chandika took the weapons in her hands
ਨਿਕਟਿਬਿਕਟਿਪੁਰਦੈਤਕੇਘੰਟਾਕੀਧੁਨਿਕੀਨ॥੨੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਦੈਂਤ ਦੇ ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਘੰਟੇ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ॥੨੮॥
And near the city of demons, raised the horrible sound of her gong.28.
ਸੁਨਿਘੰਟਾਕੇਹਰਿਸਬਦਿਅਸੁਰਨਅਸਿਰਨਲੀਨ॥
ਘੰਟੇ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਦੇ (ਦਹਾੜਨ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਰਣ ਵਿਚ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਖਿਚ ਲਈਆਂ।
Hearing the loud voice of the gong, and the lion-demons holding their swords entered the battlefield.
ਚੜੇਕੋਪਕੈਜੂਥਹੁਇਜਤਨਜੁਧਕੋਕੀਨ॥੨੯॥
ਕ੍ਰੋਧਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਸਾਰੇ ਦੈਂਤ) ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਦੀ ਵਿਵਸਥਾ ਕੀਤੀ ॥੨੯॥
They came furiously in great numbers and began to wage the war.29.
ਪੈਤਾਲੀਸਪਦਮਅਸੁਰਸਜ੍ਯੋਕਟਕਚਤੁਰੰਗਿ॥
ਮਹਿਖਾਸੁਰ ਨੇ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੀ ੪੫ ਪਦਮ ਚਤੁਰੰਗਣੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕੀਤੀ।
Forty-five padam army of the demons adorned with their four divisions.
ਕਛੁਬਾਏਕਛੁਦਾਹਨੈਕਛੁਭਟਨ੍ਰਿਪਕੇਸੰਗਿ॥੩੦॥
ਕੁਝ ਖਬੇ, ਕੁਝ ਸਜੇ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਮਹਿਖਾਸੁਰ (ਯੋਧਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ) ਦੇ ਨਾਲ (ਚੜ੍ਹੇ ਹਨ) ॥੩੦॥
Some on the left and some on the right and some warriors with the king.30.
ਭਏਇਕਠੇਦਲਪਦਮਦਸਪੰਦ੍ਰਹਅਰੁਬੀਸ॥
ਇਹ ਤਿੰਨੋਂ ਦਲ ਦਸ, ਪੰਦ੍ਰਹ ਅਤੇ ਵੀਹ ਪਦਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਨ
All the army of forty-five padam was divided into ten, fifteen and twenty.
ਪੰਦ੍ਰਹਕੀਨੇਦਾਹਨੇਦਸਬਾਏਸੰਗਿਬੀਸ॥੩੧॥
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪੰਦ੍ਰਹ ਸਜੇ ਵਲ, ਦਸ ਖਬੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਅਤੇ ਵੀਹ (ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਖੇ) ॥੩੧॥
Fifteen on the right, ten of the left, followed by twenty with the king.31.

ਦਉਰਸਬੈਇਕਬਾਰਹੀਦੈਤਸੁਆਏਹੈਚੰਡਕੇਸਾਮੁਹੇਕਾਰੇ॥
ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਾਲੇ ਦੈਂਤ ਇਕੋ ਵਾਰ ਹੀ ਭਜ ਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆ ਗਏ।
All those black demons ran and stood before Chandika.
ਲੈਕਰਿਬਾਨਕਮਾਨਨਤਾਨਿਘਨੇਅਰੁਕੋਪਸੋਸਿੰਘਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੇ॥
ਬਹੁਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਕਮਾਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੀਰ ਕਸ ਕੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰੇ।
Taking arrows with extended bows, many enemies in great fury attacked the lion.
ਚੰਡਸੰਭਾਰਿਤਬੈਕਰਵਾਰਹਕਾਰਕੈਸਤ੍ਰਸਮੂਹਨਿਵਾਰੇ॥
ਚੰਡੀ ਨੇ ਤਦੋਂ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਲਲਕਾਰਾ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ
Protecting herself from all attacks, and challenging all the enemies, Chandika dispelled them.
ਖਾਂਡਵਜਾਰਨਕੋਅਗਨੀਤਿਹਪਾਰਥਨੈਜਨੁਮੇਘਬਿਡਾਰੇ॥੩੨॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਖਾਂਡਵ ਬਨ ਦੀ ਅਗਨੀ (ਨੂੰ ਬੁਝਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਆਏ) ਬਦਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਰਜਨ (ਪਾਰਥ) ਨੇ ਖਿੰਡਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੩੨॥
Just as Arjuna had dispelled the clouds, which came to protect the Khandav forest from being burnt by fire.32.

ਇਕ ਦੈਂਤ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਘੋੜਾ ਦੌੜਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ
One of the demons went on a galloping horse with rage
ਸਨਮੁਖਦੇਵੀਕੇਭਇਓਸਲਭਦੀਪਅਨੁਹਾਰ॥੩੩॥
(ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇ) ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਗਿਆ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਦੀਪਕ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਪਤੰਗਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩੩॥
Went before the goddess like the moth before the lamp.33.

ਬੀਰਬਲੀਸਿਰਦਾਰਦੈਈਤਸੁਕ੍ਰੋਧਕੈਮਿਯਾਨਤੇਖਗੁਨਿਕਾਰਿਓ॥
ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਸੂਰਵੀਰ ਨੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮਿਆਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਕੱਢੀ।
That mighty chieftain of the demons took out his sword from the sheath in great ire.
ਏਕਦਇਓਤਨਿਚੰਡਪ੍ਰਚੰਡਕੈਦੂਸਰਕੇਹਰਿਕੇਸਿਰਝਾਰਿਓ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਇਕ ਵਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਚੰਡੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਉਤੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ।
He gave oneblow to Chandi and the second on the head of the lion.
ਚੰਡਸੰਭਾਰਿਤਬੈਬਲੁਧਾਰਿਲਇਓਗਹਿਨਾਰਿਧਰਾਪਰਮਾਰਿਓ॥
