Soohee, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਦਰਸਨੁਦੇਖਿਜੀਵਾਗੁਰਤੇਰਾ॥
ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, I live.
ਪੂਰਨਕਰਮੁਹੋਇਪ੍ਰਭਮੇਰਾ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਹੋਏ (ਤੇ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਵੇ) ॥੧॥
My karma is perfect, O my God. ||1||
ਇਹਬੇਨੰਤੀਸੁਣਿਪ੍ਰਭਮੇਰੇ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਇਹ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਸੁਣ,
Please, listen to this prayer, O my God.
ਦੇਹਿਨਾਮੁਕਰਿਅਪਣੇਚੇਰੇ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Please bless me with Your Name, and make me Your chaylaa, Your disciple. ||1||Pause||
ਅਪਣੀਸਰਣਿਰਾਖੁਪ੍ਰਭਦਾਤੇ॥
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ।
Please keep me under Your Protection, O God, O Great Giver.
ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿਕਿਨੈਵਿਰਲੈਜਾਤੇ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
By Guru's Grace, a few people understand this. ||2||
ਸੁਨਹੁਬਿਨਉਪ੍ਰਭਮੇਰੇਮੀਤਾ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਸੁਣ,
Please hear my prayer, O God, my Friend.
ਚਰਣਕਮਲਵਸਹਿਮੇਰੈਚੀਤਾ॥੩॥
(ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ! ਤੇਰੇ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਣ ॥੩॥
May Your Lotus Feet abide within my consciousness. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕੁਏਕਕਰੈਅਰਦਾਸਿ॥
(ਤੇਰਾ ਸੇਵਕ) ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਇਕ ਅਰਜ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Nanak makes one prayer:
ਵਿਸਰੁਨਾਹੀਪੂਰਨਗੁਣਤਾਸਿ॥੪॥੧੮॥੨੪॥
ਹੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਭ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ) ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲ ॥੪॥੧੮॥੨੪॥
may I never forget You, O perfect treasure of virtue. ||4||18||24||
ਸੂਹੀਮਹਲਾ੫॥
Soohee, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਮੀਤੁਸਾਜਨੁਸੁਤਬੰਧਪਭਾਈ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ, ਸੱਜਣ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਪੁੱਤਰ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ ਭਰਾ ਹੈ।
He is my friend, companion, child, relative and sibling.
ਜਤਕਤਪੇਖਉਹਰਿਸੰਗਿਸਹਾਈ॥੧॥
ਮੈਂ ਜਿਧਰ ਕਿਧਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
Wherever I look, I see the Lord as my companion and helper. ||1||
ਜਤਿਮੇਰੀਪਤਿਮੇਰੀਧਨੁਹਰਿਨਾਮੁ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੀ (ਉੱਚੀ) ਜਾਤਿ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਧਨ ਹੈ।
The Lord's Name is my social status, my honor and wealth.
ਸੂਖਸਹਜਆਨੰਦਬਿਸਰਾਮ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
(ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਨੰਦ ਹੈ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
He is my pleasure, poise, bliss and peace. ||1||Pause||
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਜਪਿਪਹਿਰਿਸਨਾਹ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਸੰਜੋਅ ਪਹਿਨੀ ਰੱਖ।
I have strapped on the armor of meditation on the Supreme Lord God.
ਕੋਟਿਆਵਧਤਿਸੁਬੇਧਤਨਾਹਿ॥੨॥
ਇਸ (ਸੰਜੋਅ) ਨੂੰ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ ॥੨॥
It cannot be pierced, even by millions of weapons. ||2||
ਹਰਿਚਰਨਸਰਣਗੜਕੋਟਹਮਾਰੈ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਤਾਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਹੈ।
The Sanctuary of the Lord's Feet is my fortress and battlement.
ਕਾਲੁਕੰਟਕੁਜਮੁਤਿਸੁਨਬਿਦਾਰੈ॥੩॥
ਇਸ (ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ) ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਮੌਤ (ਦਾ ਡਰ) ਨਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੩॥
The Messenger of Death, the torturer, cannot demolish it. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕਦਾਸਸਦਾਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ
Slave Nanak is forever a sacrifice
ਸੇਵਕਸੰਤਰਾਜਾਰਾਮਮੁਰਾਰੀ॥੪॥੧੯॥੨੫॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਹੇ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ! (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੪॥੧੯॥੨੫॥
to the selfless servants and Saints of the Sovereign Lord, the Destroyer of ego. ||4||19||25||
ਸੂਹੀਮਹਲਾ੫॥
Soohee, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਗੁਣਗੋਪਾਲਪ੍ਰਭਕੇਨਿਤਗਾਹਾ॥
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਗੋਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਦਾ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹੀਏ।
Where the Glorious Praises of God, the Lord of the world are continually sung,
ਅਨਦਬਿਨੋਦਮੰਗਲਸੁਖਤਾਹਾ॥੧॥
(ਜੇਹੜੇ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਚਾਉ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਬਣੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
there is bliss, joy, happiness and peace. ||1||
ਚਲੁਸਖੀਏਪ੍ਰਭੁਰਾਵਣਜਾਹਾ॥
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਉੱਠ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਚੱਲੀਏ,
Come, O my companions - let us go and enjoy God.
ਸਾਧਜਨਾਕੀਚਰਣੀਪਾਹਾ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਪਈਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Let us fall at the feet of the holy, humble beings. ||1||Pause||
ਕਰਿਬੇਨਤੀਜਨਧੂਰਿਬਾਛਾਹਾ॥
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਗੇ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਮੰਗੀਏ,
I pray for the dust of the feet of the humble.
ਜਨਮਜਨਮਕੇਕਿਲਵਿਖਲਾਹਾਂ॥੨॥
(ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਈਏ ॥੨॥
It shall wash away the sins of countless incarnations. ||2||
ਮਨੁਤਨੁਪ੍ਰਾਣਜੀਉਅਰਪਾਹਾ॥
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਜਿੰਦ ਜਾਨ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਈਏ।
I dedicate my mind, body, breath of life and soul to God.
ਹਰਿਸਿਮਰਿਸਿਮਰਿਮਾਨੁਮੋਹੁਕਟਾਹਾਂ॥੩॥
ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਈਏ ॥੩॥
Remembering the Lord in meditation, I have eradicated pride and emotional attachment. ||3||
ਦੀਨਦਇਆਲਕਰਹੁਉਤਸਾਹਾ॥
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਚਾਉ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ (ਕਿ)
O Lord, O Merciful to the meek, please give me faith and confidence,
ਨਾਨਕਦਾਸਹਰਿਸਰਣਿਸਮਾਹਾ॥੪॥੨੦॥੨੬॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੨੦॥੨੬॥
so that slave Nanak may remain absorbed in Your Sanctuary. ||4||20||26||
ਸੂਹੀਮਹਲਾ੫॥
Soohee, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਬੈਕੁੰਠਨਗਰੁਜਹਾਸੰਤਵਾਸਾ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹੋਣ, ਉਹੀ ਹੈ (ਅਸਲ) ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਹਰ।
The city of heaven is where the Saints dwell.
ਪ੍ਰਭਚਰਣਕਮਲਰਿਦਮਾਹਿਨਿਵਾਸਾ॥੧॥
(ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
They enshrine the Lotus Feet of God within their hearts. ||1||
ਸੁਣਿਮਨਤਨਤੁਝੁਸੁਖੁਦਿਖਲਾਵਉ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਮੇਰੀ ਗੱਲ) ਸੁਣ, (ਆ,) ਮੈਂ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਤਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿਆਂ।
Listen, O my mind and body, and let me show you the way to find peace,
ਹਰਿਅਨਿਕਬਿੰਜਨਤੁਝੁਭੋਗਭੁੰਚਾਵਉ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਹੈ, (ਆ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਭੋਜ ਖਵਾਵਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
so that you may eat and enjoy the various delicacies of the Lord||1||Pause||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਨਾਮੁਭੁੰਚੁਮਨਮਾਹੀ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ (-ਭੋਜਨ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਖਾਇਆ ਕਰ,
Taste the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within your mind.
ਅਚਰਜਸਾਦਤਾਕੇਬਰਨੇਨਜਾਹੀ॥੨॥
ਇਸ ਭੋਜਨ ਦੇ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਹਨ, ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ॥੨॥
Its taste is wondrous - it cannot be described. ||2||
ਲੋਭੁਮੂਆਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾਬੁਝਿਥਾਕੀ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਲੋਭ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਬੁੱਝ ਕੇ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
Your greed shall die, and your thirst shall be quenched.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਕੀਸਰਣਿਜਨਤਾਕੀ॥੩॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ-ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਤੱਕ ਲਿਆ ॥੩॥
The humble beings seek the Sanctuary of the Supreme Lord God. ||3||
ਜਨਮਜਨਮਕੇਭੈਮੋਹਨਿਵਾਰੇ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਮੋਹ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Lord dispels the fears and attachments of countless incarnations.
ਨਾਨਕਦਾਸਪ੍ਰਭਕਿਰਪਾਧਾਰੇ॥੪॥੨੧॥੨੭॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੨੭॥
God has showered His Mercy and Grace upon slave Nanak. ||4||21||27||
ਸੂਹੀਮਹਲਾ੫॥
Soohee, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਅਨਿਕਬੀਂਗਦਾਸਕੇਪਰਹਰਿਆ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਿੰਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ,
God covers the many shortcomings of His slaves.
ਕਰਿਕਿਰਪਾਪ੍ਰਭਿਅਪਨਾਕਰਿਆ॥੧॥
ਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
Granting His Mercy, God makes them His own. ||1||
ਤੁਮਹਿਛਡਾਇਲੀਓਜਨੁਅਪਨਾ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ (ਉਸ ਮੋਹ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਆਪ ਕੱਢ ਲਿਆ,
You emancipate Your humble servant,
ਉਰਝਿਪਰਿਓਜਾਲੁਜਗੁਸੁਪਨਾ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਜੋ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਜਗਤ (ਦਾ ਮੋਹ-) ਜਾਲ (ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ) ਚੀੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
and rescue him from the noose of the world, which is just a dream. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਬਤਦੋਖਮਹਾਬਿਕਰਾਲਾ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਪਹਾੜਾਂ ਜੇਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਐਬ-
Even huge mountains of sin and corruption
ਖਿਨਮਹਿਦੂਰਿਕੀਏਦਇਆਲਾ॥੨॥
ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ॥੨॥
are removed in an instant by the Merciful Lord. ||2||
ਸੋਗਰੋਗਬਿਪਤਿਅਤਿਭਾਰੀ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਸੇਵਕ ਦੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਗ਼ਮ ਤੇ ਰੋਗ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਭਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੁਸੀਬਤਾਂ-
Sorrow, disease and the most terrible calamities
ਦੂਰਿਭਈਜਪਿਨਾਮੁਮੁਰਾਰੀ॥੩॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈਆਂ ॥੩॥
are removed by meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||3||
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਧਾਰਿਲੀਨੋਲੜਿਲਾਇ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੜ ਲਾ ਲਿਆ,
Bestowing His Glance of Grace, He attaches us to the hem of His robe.
