ਬਹੁਤ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ (ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲ) ਬਤੀਤ ਕੀਤੇ।
ਚੁਨਿਚੁਨਿਚੋਰਸਬੈਗਹਿਘਾਏ॥
(ਅਤੇ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਲਭ ਲਭ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਚੋਰ ਪਕੜ ਕੇ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
Many years elapsed in this way, all the wicked persons (thieves) were spotted, caught and killed.
ਕੇਤਕਿਭਾਜਿਸਹਿਰਤੇਗਏ॥
ਕਈ ਆਨੰਦਪੁਰ ਨਗਰ ਤੋਂ ਭਜ ਗਏ।
ਭੂਖਿਮਰਤਫਿਰਿਆਵਤਭਏ॥੧॥
ਕਈ ਭੁਖੇ ਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਪਰਤ ਆਏ ॥੧॥
Some of them fled away from the city, but came back on account of saarevation.1.
ਤਬਲੌਖਾਨਦਿਲਾਵਰਆਏ॥
ਤਦ (ਲਾਹੌਰ ਦੇ ਸੂਬੇਦਾਰ) ਦਲਾਵਰ ਖ਼ਾਨ ਪਾਸ (ਅਲਫ਼ ਖ਼ਾਨ) ਆਇਆ।
ਪੂਤਆਪਨਹਮਓਰਿਪਠਾਏ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਤਾਂਤ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਭੇਜਿਆ।
Then Dilwar Khan (Governor of Lahore) sent his son aginst me.
ਦ੍ਵੈਕਘਰੀਬੀਤੀਨਿਸਿਜਬੈ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਦੋ ਕੁ ਘੜੀਆਂ ਰਾਤ ਬੀਤ ਗਈ
ਚੜਤਕਰੀਖਾਨਨਮਿਲਿਤਬੈ॥੨॥
ਤਾਂ ਪਠਾਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਸਾਡੇ ਉਤੇ) ਚੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੨॥
A few hours after nightfall, the Khans assembled and advanced for attack.2
ਜਬਦਲਪਾਰਨਦੀਕੇਆਯੋ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਵੈਰੀ-ਦਲ ਨਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਆ ਗਿਆ
ਆਨਿਆਲਮੈਹਮੈਜਗਾਯੋ॥
ਤਾਂ ਡਿਉਡੀ ਦੇ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਆਲਮ (ਸ਼ਾਹ ਸਿੰਘ) ਨੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜਗਾਇਆ।
When their forces crossed the river, Alam (Singh) came and woke me up.
ਸੋਰੁਪਰਾਸਭਹੀਨਰਜਾਗੇ॥
ਸ਼ੋਰ ਪੈਣ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਸੈਨਿਕ ਜਾਗ ਗਏ
ਗਹਿਗਹਿਸਸਤ੍ਰਬੀਰਰਿਸਪਾਗੇ॥੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਵੀਰਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਫੜ ਫੜ ਕੇ (ਅਗੇ ਵਧੇ) ॥੩॥
There was a great consternation and all the people got up. They took up their arms with valour and zeal.3.
ਛੂਟਨਲਗੀਤੁਫੰਗੈਤਬਹੀ॥
ਤਦੋਂ ਬੰਦੂਕਾਂ ਚਲਣ ਲਗੀਆਂ
ਗਹਿਗਹਿਸਸਤ੍ਰਰਿਸਾਨੇਸਬਹੀ॥
ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਫੜ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ (ਸੈਨਿਕ) ਕ੍ਰੋਧਵਾਨ ਹੋਣ ਲਗੇ।
The discharge of the volleys of shots from guns began immediately. Everyone was in a rage, holding the arms in hand.
ਕ੍ਰੂਰਭਾਂਤਿਤਿਨਕਰੀਪੁਕਾਰਾ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਪਠਾਣਾਂ) ਨੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਰੌਲਾ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਸੋਰੁਸੁਨਾਸਰਤਾਕੈਪਾਰਾ॥੪॥
ਨਦੀ ਦੇ ਪਰਲੇ ਪਾਸਿਓਂ (ਅਸੀਂ) ਸ਼ੋਰ ਸੁਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
They raised various dreadful shouts. The noise was heard on the other side of the river.4.

ਭੇਰੀਆਂ ਭੂੰ ਭੂੰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵਜੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ਗੂੰਜਣ ਲਗੇ।
ਮਹਾਬੀਰਬਾਨੈਤਬੰਕੇਬਕਾਰੇ॥
ਬਾਂਕੇ ਤੀਰ-ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ ਅਤੇ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਯੋਧੇ ਲਲਕਾਰੇ ਮਾਰਦੇ (ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਤਰੇ)।
The bugles blew, the trumpets resounded, the great heroes entered the fray, shouting loudly.
ਭਏਬਾਹੁਆਘਾਤਨਚੇਮਰਾਲੰ॥
(ਉਲਰੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ) ਬਾਂਹਵਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੱਟਾ (ਇਕ ਦੂਜੀ ਤੇ) ਵਜੀਆਂ (ਭਾਵ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਚਲਣ ਲਗੇ) ਅਤੇ ਘੋੜੇ ਨਚਣ ਲਗੇ।
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਸਿੰਧੁਕਾਲੀਗਰਜੀਕਰਾਲੰ॥੫॥
ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ (ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਸਿੰਧੁ-ਖੋਪੜੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ) ਵਿਚ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਕਾਲੀ ਗੱਜੀ ॥੫॥
From both sides, the arms clattered with force and the horses danced, it seemed that the dreadful goddess Kali thundered in the battlefield.5.
ਨਦੀਯੰਲਖ੍ਯੋਕਾਲਰਾਤ੍ਰਸਮਾਨੰ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਠਾਣਾਂ ਨੇ) ਨਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਲ-ਰਾਤ੍ਰੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਸਮਝਿਆ,
ਕਰੇਸੂਰਮਾਸੀਤਿਪਿੰਗੰਪ੍ਰਮਾਨੰ॥
(ਨਾਲੇ ਨਦੀ ਦੇ) ਠੰਡੇ (ਜਲ ਨੇ) ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿੰਗਲਿਆਂ ਵਰਗਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
The river appeared like the night of death the severe chill cramped the soldiers.
ਇਤੇਬੀਰਗਜੇਭਏਨਾਦਭਾਰੇ॥
ਇਧਰੋਂ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਗਜੇ ਅਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਨਾਦ ਹੋਣ ਲਗੇ।
ਭਜੇਖਾਨਖੂਨੀਬਿਨਾਸਸਤ੍ਰਝਾਰੇ॥੬॥
(ਉਧਰ) ਖ਼ੂਨਖ਼ਾਰ ਖ਼ਾਨ ਬਿਨਾ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਚਲਾਏ ਭਜ ਗਏ ॥੬॥
The heroes form this (my) side thundred and the bloody Khans fled away without using their weapons.6.

ਨਿਲਜਖਾਨਭਜਿਯੋ॥
ਨਿਰਲਜ ਖ਼ਾਨ ਭਜ ਗਿਆ।
ਕਿਨੀਨਸਸਤ੍ਰਸਜਿਯੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰਨ ਨਾ ਕੀਤੇ।
The shameless Khans fled away and none of them wore the arms.
ਸੁਤਿਆਗਖੇਤਕੋਚਲੇ॥
ਉਹ ਰਣੁ-ਭੂਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ
ਸੁਬੀਰਬੀਰਹਾਭਲੇ॥੭॥
ਜੋ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਤਕੜੇ ਗ਼ਾਜ਼ੀ ਅਖਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੭॥
They left the battlefield though they pretended to be the valiant heroes.7.
ਚਲੇਤੁਰੇਤੁਰਾਇਕੈ॥
(ਉਹ) ਘੋੜੇ ਭਜਾ ਕੇ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ।
ਸਕੈਨਸਸਤ੍ਰਉਠਾਇਕੈ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ) ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਨਾ ਉਠਾ ਸਕਿਆ।
They left on galloping horses and could not use the weapons.
ਨਲੈਹਥਿਆਰਗਜਹੀ॥
ਨਾ ਹੀ (ਉਹ) ਹਥਿਆਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਗੱਜੇ।
ਨਿਹਾਰਿਨਾਰਿਲਜਹੀ॥੮॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਨਾਰੀਆਂ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਰਮਾਉਣ ਲਗੀਆਂ ॥੮॥
They did not shout loudly like valiant heroes and felt Ashamed on seeing ladies.8.

ਬਰਵਾਗਾਉਉਜਾਰਕੈਕਰੇਮੁਕਾਮਭਲਾਨ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦੇ) ਬਰਵਾ ਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਾੜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਭਲਾਨ ਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਠਿਕਾਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ।
On the way they plundered the village Barwa and halted at Bhallon.
ਪ੍ਰਭਬਲਹਮੈਨਛੁਇਸਕੈਭਾਜਤਭਏਨਿਦਾਨ॥੯॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਉਹ) ਮੂਰਖ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਛੋਹ ਤਕ ਨਾ ਸਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਭਜ ਗਏ ॥੯॥
They could not touch me because of the Grace of the Lord and fled away ultimately.9.
ਤਵਬਲਿਈਹਾਨਪਰਸਕੈਬਰਵਾਹਨਾਰਿਸਾਇ॥
ਤੇਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ (ਉਹ) ਆਨੰਦਪੁਰ ਉਤੇ ਤਾਂ ਹਮਲਾ ਨਾ ਕਰ ਸਕੇ, (ਪਰ) ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਬਰਵਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਾੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
Because of Thy Favour, O Lord! They could not do any harmahere, but filled with great anger, they destroyed the village Barwa.
ਸਾਲਿਨਰਸਜਿਮਬਾਨੀਯਰੋਰਨਖਾਤਬਨਾਇ॥੧੦॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਾਸ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਦੀ (ਇੱਛਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਬਾਣੀਆ (ਮਾਸ ਤਾਂ ਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ) ਪਰ ਰੋੜਿਆਂ (ਦਾ ਸਾਲਨ) ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
Just as a Vishya (Bania), though desirous of tasting meat, cannot actually have its relish, but instead prepares and eats the salted soup of parched wheat. 10.

ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਕੇ (ਪਿਉ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ) ਉੱਤਰ ਨਾ ਦੇ ਸਕਿਆ।
