ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮਨਮੇਰੇਨਾਮੁਸਮਾਲਿ॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ।
As Gurmukh, O my mind, remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਸਦਾਨਿਬਹੈਚਲੈਤੇਰੈਨਾਲਿ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਥ ਨਿਬਾਹੁਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਰਹਾਉ॥
It shall stand by you always, and go with you. ||Pause||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਜਾਤਿਪਤਿਸਚੁਸੋਇ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਉੱਚੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਤੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਕੁਲ (ਦਾ ਮੂਲ) ਹੈ।
The True Lord is the social status and honor of the Gurmukh.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਅੰਤਰਿਸਖਾਈਪ੍ਰਭੁਹੋਇ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਸਦਾ ਦਾ) ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
Within the Gurmukh, is God, his friend and helper. ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਜਿਸਨੋਆਪਿਕਰੇਸੋਹੋਇ॥
ਪਰ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ (ਇਸ ਜੋਗ) ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He alone becomes Gurmukh, whom the Lord so blesses.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਆਪਿਵਡਾਈਦੇਵੈਸੋਇ॥੩॥
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
He Himself blesses the Gurmukh with greatness. ||3||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਬਦੁਸਚੁਕਰਣੀਸਾਰੁ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸੰਭਾਲ, ਇਹੀ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ।
The Gurmukh lives the True Word of the Shabad, and practices good deeds.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਨਾਨਕਪਰਵਾਰੈਸਾਧਾਰੁ॥੪॥੬॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਦੇਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥
The Gurmukh, O Nanak, emancipates his family and relations. ||4||6||
ਵਡਹੰਸੁਮਹਲਾ੩॥
Wadahans, Third Mahalaa:
ਰਸਨਾਹਰਿਸਾਦਿਲਗੀਸਹਜਿਸੁਭਾਇ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
My tongue is intuitively attracted to the taste of the Lord.
ਮਨੁਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਆਹਰਿਨਾਮੁਧਿਆਇ॥੧॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
My mind is satisfied, meditating on the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਸਦਾਸੁਖੁਸਾਚੈਸਬਦਿਵੀਚਾਰੀ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Lasting peace is obtained, contemplating the Shabad, the True Word of God.
ਆਪਣੇਸਤਿਗੁਰਵਿਟਹੁਸਦਾਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
I am forever a sacrifice to my True Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਅਖੀਸੰਤੋਖੀਆਏਕਲਿਵਲਾਇ॥
ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ (ਪਰਾਏ ਰੂਪ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,
My eyes are content, lovingly focused on the One Lord.
ਮਨੁਸੰਤੋਖਿਆਦੂਜਾਭਾਉਗਵਾਇ॥੨॥
ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
My mind is content, having forsaken the love of duality. ||2||
ਦੇਹਸਰੀਰਿਸੁਖੁਹੋਵੈਸਬਦਿਹਰਿਨਾਇ॥
ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The frame of my body is at peace, through the Shabad, and the Name of the Lord.
ਨਾਮੁਪਰਮਲੁਹਿਰਦੈਰਹਿਆਸਮਾਇ॥੩॥
ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
The fragrance of the Naam permeates my heart. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕਮਸਤਕਿਜਿਸੁਵਡਭਾਗੁ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਜਾਗਦੀ ਹੈ,
O Nanak, one who has such great destiny written upon his forehead,
ਗੁਰਕੀਬਾਣੀਸਹਜਬੈਰਾਗੁ॥੪॥੭॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਉਪਜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੭॥
through the Bani of the Guru's Word, easily and intuitively becomes free of desire. ||4||7||
ਵਡਹੰਸੁਮਹਲਾ੩॥
Wadahans, Third Mahalaa:
ਪੂਰੇਗੁਰਤੇਨਾਮੁਪਾਇਆਜਾਇ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ,
From the Perfect Guru, the Naam is obtained.
ਸਚੈਸਬਦਿਸਚਿਸਮਾਇ॥੧॥
ਜਿਸ ਸਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮਾ ਜਾਏਂ ॥੧॥
Through the Shabad, the True Word of God, one merges in the True Lord. ||1||
ਏਮਨਨਾਮੁਨਿਧਾਨੁਤੂਪਾਇ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋਲੋਂ),
O my soul, obtain the treasure of the Naam,
ਆਪਣੇਗੁਰਕੀਮੰਨਿਲੈਰਜਾਇ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਕਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
by submitting to the Will of your Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰਕੈਸਬਦਿਵਿਚਹੁਮੈਲੁਗਵਾਇ॥
ਗੁਰ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, filth is washed away from within.
ਨਿਰਮਲੁਨਾਮੁਵਸੈਮਨਿਆਇ॥੨॥
ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਮ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
The Immaculate Naam comes to abide within the mind. ||2||
ਭਰਮੇਭੂਲਾਫਿਰੈਸੰਸਾਰੁ॥
ਜਗਤ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੋਂ) ਭੁੱਲਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Deluded by doubt, the world wanders around.
ਮਰਿਜਨਮੈਜਮੁਕਰੇਖੁਆਰੁ॥੩॥
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਮ-ਰਾਜ ਸਦਾ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
It dies, and is born again, and is ruined by the Messenger of Death. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕਸੇਵਡਭਾਗੀਜਿਨਹਰਿਨਾਮੁਧਿਆਇਆ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ,
O Nanak, very fortunate are those who meditate on the Name of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦੀਮੰਨਿਵਸਾਇਆ॥੪॥੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੮॥
By Guru's Grace, they enshrine the Name within their minds. ||4||8||
ਵਡਹੰਸੁਮਹਲਾ੩॥
Wadahans, Third Mahalaa:
ਹਉਮੈਨਾਵੈਨਾਲਿਵਿਰੋਧੁਹੈਦੁਇਨਵਸਹਿਇਕਠਾਇ॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਇਕੱਠੇ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਨਹੀਂ ਵੱਸ ਸਕਦੇ।
Ego is opposed to the Name of the Lord; the two do not dwell in the same place.
ਹਉਮੈਵਿਚਿਸੇਵਾਨਹੋਵਈਤਾਮਨੁਬਿਰਥਾਜਾਇ॥੧॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
In egotism, selfless service cannot be performed, and so the soul goes unfulfilled. ||1||
ਹਰਿਚੇਤਿਮਨਮੇਰੇਤੂਗੁਰਕਾਸਬਦੁਕਮਾਇ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਸਾਣ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ।
O my mind, think of the Lord, and practice the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਹੁਕਮੁਮੰਨਹਿਤਾਹਰਿਮਿਲੈਤਾਵਿਚਹੁਹਉਮੈਜਾਇ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ) ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨੇਂਗਾ, ਤਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪਵੇਗਾ, ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗੀ। ਰਹਾਉ॥
If you submit to the Hukam of the Lord's Command, then you shall meet with the Lord; only then will your ego depart from within. ||Pause||
ਹਉਮੈਸਭੁਸਰੀਰੁਹੈਹਉਮੈਓਪਤਿਹੋਇ॥
ਸਰੀਰ (ਧਾਰਨ ਦਾ ਇਹ) ਸਾਰਾ (ਸਿਲਸਿਲਾ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਨਮ-ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Egotism is within all bodies; through egotism, we come to be born.
ਹਉਮੈਵਡਾਗੁਬਾਰੁਹੈਹਉਮੈਵਿਚਿਬੁਝਿਨਸਕੈਕੋਇ॥੨॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਬੜਾ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੈ, ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ) ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੨॥
Egotism is total darkness; in egotism, no one can understand anything. ||2||
ਹਉਮੈਵਿਚਿਭਗਤਿਨਹੋਵਈਹੁਕਮੁਨਬੁਝਿਆਜਾਇ॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਸਮਝੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
In egotism, devotional worship cannot be performed, and the Hukam of the Lord's Command cannot be understood.
ਹਉਮੈਵਿਚਿਜੀਉਬੰਧੁਹੈਨਾਮੁਨਵਸੈਮਨਿਆਇ॥੩॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਕਾਰਨ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਦੀ) ਰੋਕ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੩॥
In egotism, the soul is in bondage, and the Naam, the Name of the Lord, does not come to abide in the mind. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕਸਤਿਗੁਰਿਮਿਲਿਐਹਉਮੈਗਈਤਾਸਚੁਵਸਿਆਮਨਿਆਇ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
O Nanak, meeting with the True Guru, egotism is eliminated, and then, the True Lord comes to dwell in the mind||
ਸਚੁਕਮਾਵੈਸਚਿਰਹੈਸਚੇਸੇਵਿਸਮਾਇ॥੪॥੯॥੧੨॥
ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੯॥੧੨॥
One starts practicing truth, abides in truth and by serving the True One gets absorbed in Him. ||4||9||12||
ਵਡਹੰਸੁਮਹਲਾ੪ਘਰੁ੧॥
ਰਾਗ ਵਡਹੰਸ, ਘਰ ੧ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
Wadahans, Fourth Mahalaa, First House:
ੴਸਤਿਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਸੇਜਏਕਏਕੋਪ੍ਰਭੁਠਾਕੁਰੁ॥
(ਹਿਰਦਾ) ਇਕ ਪਲੰਘ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਿਰਾਜਮਾਨ ਹੈ।
There is one bed, and One Lord God.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਹਰਿਰਾਵੇਸੁਖਸਾਗਰੁ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ (ਸਦਾ) ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
The Gurmukh enjoys the Lord, the ocean of peace. ||1||
ਮੈਪ੍ਰਭਮਿਲਣਪ੍ਰੇਮਮਨਿਆਸਾ॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ ਖਿੱਚ ਹੈ, ਆਸ ਹੈ।
My mind longs to meet my Beloved Lord.
