ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਪਉਣੁਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਪਾਣੀ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਪਉਣ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੈ,
Wonderful is the wind, wonderful is the water.
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਅਗਨੀਖੇਡਹਿਵਿਡਾਣੀ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਕਈ ਅਗਨੀਆਂ ਅਚਰਜ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ;
Wonderful is fire, which works wonders.
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਧਰਤੀਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਖਾਣੀ॥
ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਤਪੱਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਚਾਰ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ
Wonderful is the earth, wonderful the sources of creation.
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਸਾਦਿਲਗਹਿਪਰਾਣੀ॥
ਜੀਵ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ; ਇਹ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਥੱਰਾਹਟ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
Wonderful are the tastes to which mortals are attached.
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਸੰਜੋਗੁਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਵਿਜੋਗੁ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਹੈ, ਕਿਤੇ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਹੈ;
Wonderful is union, and wonderful is separation.
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਭੁਖਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਭੋਗੁ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਭੁੱਖ (ਸਤਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ), ਕਿਤੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਭੋਗ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਕਿਤੇ ਕਈ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਛਕੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ),
Wonderful is hunger, wonderful is satisfaction.
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਸਿਫਤਿਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਸਾਲਾਹ॥
ਕਿਤੇ (ਕੁਦਰਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ,
Wonderful is His Praise, wonderful is His adoration.
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਉਝੜਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਰਾਹ॥
ਕਿਤੇ ਔਝੜ ਹੈ, ਕਿਤੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਹਨ-ਇਹ ਅਚਰਜ ਖੇਡ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੈਰਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
Wonderful is the wilderness, wonderful is the path.
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਨੇੜੈਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਦੂਰਿ॥
(ਕੋਈ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਰੱਬ) ਨੇੜੇ ਹੈ (ਕੋਈ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ) ਦੂਰ ਹੈ;
Wonderful is closeness, wonderful is distance.
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਦੇਖੈਹਾਜਰਾਹਜੂਰਿ॥
(ਕੋਈ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ-ਇਸ ਅਚਰਜ ਕੌਤਕ ਨੂੰ ਤੱਕ ਕੇ ਝਰਨਾਟ ਛਿੜ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
How wonderful to behold the Lord, ever-present here.
ਵੇਖਿਵਿਡਾਣੁਰਹਿਆਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ॥
(ਰੱਬ ਦੀ) ਅਚਰਜ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਂਬਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਛਿੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
Beholding His wonders, I am wonder-struck.
ਨਾਨਕਬੁਝਣੁਪੂਰੈਭਾਗਿ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਸ ਇਲਾਹੀ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, those who understand this are blessed with perfect destiny. ||1||

First Mahalaa:
ਕੁਦਰਤਿਦਿਸੈਕੁਦਰਤਿਸੁਣੀਐਕੁਦਰਤਿਭਉਸੁਖਸਾਰੁ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਸੁਣੀ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਕਲਾ ਹੈ; ਇਹ ਭਉ ਜੋ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਹੈ।
By His Power we see, by His Power we hear; by His Power we have fear, and the essence of happiness.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿਪਾਤਾਲੀਆਕਾਸੀਕੁਦਰਤਿਸਰਬਆਕਾਰੁ॥
ਪਤਾਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਅਕਾਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਅਕਾਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਜੋ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ) ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਅਚਰਜ ਖੇਡ ਹੈ।
By His Power the nether worlds exist, and the Akaashic ethers; by His Power the entire creation exists.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿਵੇਦਪੁਰਾਣਕਤੇਬਾਕੁਦਰਤਿਸਰਬਵੀਚਾਰੁ॥
ਵੇਦ, ਪੁਰਾਣ ਤੇ ਕਤੇਬਾਂ, (ਹੋਰ ਭੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ-ਸੱਤਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਕਲਾ ਹੈ;
By His Power the Vedas and the Puraanas exist, and the Holy Scriptures of the Jewish, Christian and Islamic religions. By His Power all deliberations exist.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿਖਾਣਾਪੀਣਾਪੈਨੑਣੁਕੁਦਰਤਿਸਰਬਪਿਆਰੁ॥
(ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਖਾਣ, ਪੀਣ, ਪੈਨ੍ਹਣ (ਦਾ ਵਿਹਾਰ) ਅਤੇ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਸਾਰਾ ਪਿਆਰ (ਦਾ ਜਜ਼ਬਾ) ਇਹ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਹੈ।
By His Power we eat, drink and dress; by His Power all love exists.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿਜਾਤੀਜਿਨਸੀਰੰਗੀਕੁਦਰਤਿਜੀਅਜਹਾਨ॥
ਜਾਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਜਿਨਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਰੰਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ,
- By His Power come the species of all kinds and colors; by His Power the living beings of the world exist.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿਨੇਕੀਆਕੁਦਰਤਿਬਦੀਆਕੁਦਰਤਿਮਾਨੁਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ॥
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਕਿਤੇ ਭਲਾਈ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਹਨ; ਕਿਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਆਦਰ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਪਰਧਾਨ ਹੈ-ਇਹ ਤੇਰਾ ਅਚਰਜ ਕੌਤਕ ਹੈ।
By His Power virtues exist, and by His Power vices exist. By His Power come honor and dishonor.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿਪਉਣੁਪਾਣੀਬੈਸੰਤਰੁਕੁਦਰਤਿਧਰਤੀਖਾਕੁ॥
ਪਉਣ, ਪਾਣੀ, ਅੱਗ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ (ਆਦਿਕ ਤੱਤ), ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਹਨ।
By His Power wind, water and fire exist; by His Power earth and dust exist.
ਸਭਤੇਰੀਕੁਦਰਤਿਤੂੰਕਾਦਿਰੁਕਰਤਾਪਾਕੀਨਾਈਪਾਕੁ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਲਾ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਖੇਲ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸੁੱਚੀ ਤੋਂ ਸੁੱਚੀ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ (ਹਸਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈਂ।
Everything is in Your Power, Lord; You are the all-powerful Creator. Your Name is the Holiest of the Holy.
ਨਾਨਕਹੁਕਮੈਅੰਦਰਿਵੇਖੈਵਰਤੈਤਾਕੋਤਾਕੁ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਇਸ ਸਾਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ (ਰੱਖ ਕੇ) (ਸਭ ਦੀ) ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ, ਇਕੱਲਾ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, through the Command of His Will, He beholds and pervades the creation; He is absolutely unrivalled. ||2||

ਆਪੀਨੑੈਭੋਗਭੋਗਿਕੈਹੋਇਭਸਮੜਿਭਉਰੁਸਿਧਾਇਆ॥
ਰੱਬ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ-ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅਚਰਜ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਹੈ)। (ਸਰੀਰ) ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੀ ਢੇਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ-ਰੂਪ) ਭਉਰ (ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Enjoying his pleasures, one is reduced to a pile of ashes, and the soul passes away.
ਵਡਾਹੋਆਦੁਨੀਦਾਰੁਗਲਿਸੰਗਲੁਘਤਿਚਲਾਇਆ॥
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ) ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੀਵ (ਜਦੋਂ) ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਦੇ) ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਗਲ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਵੇੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੀਵ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਤੇ 'ਹੰਸ ਚਲਸੀ ਡੁਮਣਾ')।
He may be great, but when he dies, the chain is thrown around his neck, and he is led away.
ਅਗੈਕਰਣੀਕੀਰਤਿਵਾਚੀਐਬਹਿਲੇਖਾਕਰਿਸਮਝਾਇਆ॥
ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ (ਭਾਵ, ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ, ਵੇਖੋ ਪਉੜੀ ੨) ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਰੂਪ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੀ ਕਬੂਲ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਓਥੈ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਹਿਸਾਬ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
There, his good and bad deeds are added up; sitting there, his account is read.
ਥਾਉਨਹੋਵੀਪਉਦੀਈਹੁਣਿਸੁਣੀਐਕਿਆਰੂਆਇਆ॥
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਭੋਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਓਥੇ ਮਾਰ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਢੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ, ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਕੂਕ-ਪੁਕਾਰ ਸੁਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
He is whipped, but finds no place of rest, and no one hears his cries of pain.
ਮਨਿਅੰਧੈਜਨਮੁਗਵਾਇਆ॥੩॥
ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ (ਵਾਲਾ ਜੀਵ) ਆਪਣਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ-) ਜਨਮ ਅਜਾਈਂ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
The blind man has wasted his life away. ||3||
ਸਲੋਕਮਃ੧॥
Shalok, First Mahalaa:
ਭੈਵਿਚਿਪਵਣੁਵਹੈਸਦਵਾਉ॥
ਹਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਵਿਚ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
In the Fear of God, the wind and breezes ever blow.
ਭੈਵਿਚਿਚਲਹਿਲਖਦਰੀਆਉ॥
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਭੀ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵਗ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
In the Fear of God, thousands of rivers flow.
ਭੈਵਿਚਿਅਗਨਿਕਢੈਵੇਗਾਰਿ॥
ਅੱਗ ਜੋ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਭੀ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
In the Fear of God, fire is forced to labor.
ਭੈਵਿਚਿਧਰਤੀਦਬੀਭਾਰਿ॥
ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੀ ਭਾਰ ਹੇਠ ਨੱਪੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ।
In the Fear of God, the earth is crushed under its burden.
ਭੈਵਿਚਿਇੰਦੁਫਿਰੈਸਿਰਭਾਰਿ॥
ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਇੰਦਰ ਰਾਜਾ ਸਿਰ ਦੇ ਭਾਰ ਫਿਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੇਘ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਉੱਡ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ)।
In the Fear of God, the clouds move across the sky.
ਭੈਵਿਚਿਰਾਜਾਧਰਮਦੁਆਰੁ॥
ਧਰਮ-ਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਭੀ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ।
In the Fear of God, the Righteous Judge of Dharma stands at His Door.
ਭੈਵਿਚਿਸੂਰਜੁਭੈਵਿਚਿਚੰਦੁ॥
ਸੂਰਜ ਭੀ ਤੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਭੀ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ,
In the Fear of God, the sun shines, and in the Fear of God, the moon reflects.
ਕੋਹਕਰੋੜੀਚਲਤਨਅੰਤੁ॥
ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਕੋਹਾਂ ਚਲਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਂਡੇ ਦਾ ਓੜਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।
They travel millions of miles, endlessly.
ਭੈਵਿਚਿਸਿਧਬੁਧਸੁਰਨਾਥ॥
ਸਿੱਧ, ਬੁਧ, ਦੇਵਤੇ ਤੇ ਨਾਥ-ਸਾਰੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ।
In the Fear of God, the Siddhas exist, as do the Buddhas, the demi-gods and Yogis.
ਭੈਵਿਚਿਆਡਾਣੇਆਕਾਸ॥
ਇਹ ਉੱਪਰ ਤਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਕਾਸ਼ (ਜੋ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹ ਭੀ) ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹਨ।
In the Fear of God, the Akaashic ethers are stretched across the sky.
ਭੈਵਿਚਿਜੋਧਮਹਾਬਲਸੂਰ॥
ਬੜੇ ਬੜੇ ਬਲ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੋਧੇ ਤੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਸਭ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ।
In the Fear of God, the warriors and the most powerful heroes exist.
ਭੈਵਿਚਿਆਵਹਿਜਾਵਹਿਪੂਰ॥
ਪੂਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੂਰ ਜੀਵ ਜੋ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਤੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਭ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ।
In the Fear of God, multitudes come and go.
ਸਗਲਿਆਭਉਲਿਖਿਆਸਿਰਿਲੇਖੁ॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਭਉ-ਰੂਪ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਭਾਵ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਿਯਮ ਹੀ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ।
God has inscribed the Inscription of His Fear upon the heads of all.
ਨਾਨਕਨਿਰਭਉਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁਸਚੁਏਕੁ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਭੈ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, the Fearless Lord, the Formless Lord, the True Lord, is One. ||1||

ਨਾਨਕਨਿਰਭਉਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁਹੋਰਿਕੇਤੇਰਾਮਰਵਾਲ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਕ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਭੈ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, (ਅਵਤਾਰੀ) ਰਾਮ (ਜੀ) ਵਰਗੇ ਕਈ ਹੋਰ (ਉਸ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਸਾਮ੍ਹਣੇ) ਤੁੱਛ ਹਨ;
O Nanak, the Lord is fearless and formless; myriads of others, like Rama, are mere dust before Him.
ਕੇਤੀਆਕੰਨੑਕਹਾਣੀਆਕੇਤੇਬੇਦਬੀਚਾਰ॥
(ਉਸ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ (ਜੀ) ਦੀਆਂ ਕਈ ਸਾਖੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਭੀ ਤੁੱਛ ਹਨ।
There are so many stories of Krishna, so many who reflect over the Vedas.
ਕੇਤੇਨਚਹਿਮੰਗਤੇਗਿੜਿਮੁੜਿਪੂਰਹਿਤਾਲ॥
(ਉਸ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਕਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਨੱਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਾਲ ਪੂਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
So many beggars dance, spinning around to the beat.
ਬਾਜਾਰੀਬਾਜਾਰਮਹਿਆਇਕਢਹਿਬਾਜਾਰ॥
ਰਾਸਧਾਰੀਏ ਭੀ ਬਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਰਾਸਾਂ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
The magicians perform their magic in the market place, creating a false illusion.
ਗਾਵਹਿਰਾਜੇਰਾਣੀਆਬੋਲਹਿਆਲਪਤਾਲ॥
ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ (ਮੂੰਹੋਂ) ਕਈ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ,
They sing as kings and queens, and speak of this and that.
ਲਖਟਕਿਆਕੇਮੁੰਦੜੇਲਖਟਕਿਆਕੇਹਾਰ॥
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਰੁਪਇਆਂ ਦੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਕੀਮਤੀ) ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਹਾਰ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ;
They wear earrings, and necklaces worth thousands of dollars.
ਜਿਤੁਤਨਿਪਾਈਅਹਿਨਾਨਕਾਸੇਤਨਹੋਵਹਿਛਾਰ॥
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਉਹ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਹਾਰ ਤਾਂ) ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਾਈਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ (ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਆਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਗਾਉਣ ਨੱਚਣ ਨਾਲ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਹਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਨਣ ਨਾਲ 'ਗਿਆਨ' ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?)
Those bodies on which they are worn, O Nanak, those bodies turn to ashes.
