ਜਿਸੁਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿਸਭੁਜਗਤੁਤਰਾਇਆ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਹੀ ਤਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
by his grace, the whole world is saved.
ਜਨਆਵਨਕਾਇਹੈਸੁਆਉ॥
ਅਜਿਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਆਉਣ ਦਾ ਇਹੀ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਹੈ,
This is his purpose in life;
ਜਨਕੈਸੰਗਿਚਿਤਿਆਵੈਨਾਉ॥
ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਚੇਤੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
in the Company of this humble servant, the Lord's Name comes to mind.
ਆਪਿਮੁਕਤੁਮੁਕਤੁਕਰੈਸੰਸਾਰੁ॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪ (ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ) ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਮੁਕਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
He Himself is liberated, and He liberates the universe.
ਨਾਨਕਤਿਸੁਜਨਕਉਸਦਾਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ॥੮॥੨੩॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਐਸੇ (ਉੱਤਮ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਡੀ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਮ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੨੩॥
O Nanak, to that humble servant, I bow in reverence forever. ||8||23||
ਸਲੋਕੁ॥
Shalok:
ਪੂਰਾਪ੍ਰਭੁਆਰਾਧਿਆਪੂਰਾਜਾਕਾਨਾਉ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਅਟੱਲ ਨਾਮ ਵਾਲੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ,
I worship and adore the Perfect Lord God. Perfect is His Name.
ਨਾਨਕਪੂਰਾਪਾਇਆਪੂਰੇਕੇਗੁਨਗਾਉ॥੧॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ; (ਤਾਂ ਤੇ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, I have obtained the Perfect One; I sing the Glorious Praises of the Perfect Lord. ||1||
ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Ashtapadee:
ਪੂਰੇਗੁਰਕਾਸੁਨਿਉਪਦੇਸੁ॥
(ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੁਣ,
Listen to the Teachings of the Perfect Guru;
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਨਿਕਟਿਕਰਿਪੇਖੁ॥
ਤੇ, ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਨੇੜੇ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ।
see the Supreme Lord God near you.
ਸਾਸਿਸਾਸਿਸਿਮਰਹੁਗੋਬਿੰਦ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਦੰਮ-ਬ-ਦੰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ,
With each and every breath, meditate in remembrance on the Lord of the Universe,
ਮਨਅੰਤਰਕੀਉਤਰੈਚਿੰਦ॥
(ਤਾਂ ਜੁ) ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਏ।
and the anxiety within your mind shall depart.
ਆਸਅਨਿਤਤਿਆਗਹੁਤਰੰਗ॥
(ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਨਿੱਤ ਨਾਹ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ (ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਆਸਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਰਾਂ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ,
Abandon the waves of fleeting desire,
ਸੰਤਜਨਾਕੀਧੂਰਿਮਨਮੰਗਿ॥
ਅਤੇ ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ ਮੰਗ।
and pray for the dust of the feet of the Saints.
ਆਪੁਛੋਡਿਬੇਨਤੀਕਰਹੁ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ,
Renounce your selfishness and conceit and offer your prayers.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਅਗਨਿਸਾਗਰੁਤਰਹੁ॥
(ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ।
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, cross over the ocean of fire.
ਹਰਿਧਨਕੇਭਰਿਲੇਹੁਭੰਡਾਰ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪੀ ਧਨ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰ ਲੈ,
Fill your stores with the wealth of the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕਗੁਰਪੂਰੇਨਮਸਕਾਰ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰ ॥੧॥
Nanak bows in humility and reverence to the Perfect Guru. ||1||
ਖੇਮਕੁਸਲਸਹਜਆਨੰਦ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਅਟੱਲ ਸੁਖ, ਸੌਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਣਗੇ;
Happiness, intuitive peace, poise and bliss
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਭਜੁਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ॥
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮ-ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ।
in the Company of the Holy, meditate on the Lord of supreme bliss.
ਨਰਕਨਿਵਾਰਿਉਧਾਰਹੁਜੀਉ॥
ਨਰਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ-
You shall be spared from hell - save your soul!
ਗੁਨਗੋਬਿੰਦਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਸੁਪੀਉ॥
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ (ਨਾਮ-) ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਪੀ।
Drink in the ambrosial essence of the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਚਿਤਿਚਿਤਵਹੁਨਾਰਾਇਣਏਕ॥
ਉਸ ਇੱਕ ਪੁਭੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਹੁ,
Focus your consciousness on the One, the All-pervading Lord
ਏਕਰੂਪਜਾਕੇਰੰਗਅਨੇਕ॥
ਜਿਸ ਇੱਕ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੰਗ ਹਨ।
He has One Form, but He has many manifestations.
ਗੋਪਾਲਦਾਮੋਦਰਦੀਨਦਇਆਲ॥
ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦਮੋਦਰ-
Sustainer of the Universe, Lord of the world, Kind to the poor,
ਦੁਖਭੰਜਨਪੂਰਨਕਿਰਪਾਲ॥
ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਦਾ ਜੋ ਘਰ ਹੈ;
Destroyer of sorrow, perfectly Merciful.
ਸਿਮਰਿਸਿਮਰਿਨਾਮੁਬਾਰੰਬਾਰ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ।
Meditate, meditate in remembrance on the Naam, again and again.
ਨਾਨਕਜੀਅਕਾਇਹੈਅਧਾਰ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, it is the Support of the soul. ||2||
ਉਤਮਸਲੋਕਸਾਧਕੇਬਚਨ॥
ਸਾਧ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਨ,
The most sublime hymns are the Words of the Holy.
ਅਮੁਲੀਕਲਾਲਏਹਿਰਤਨ॥
ਇਹ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਲਾਲ ਹਨ, ਅਮੋਲਕ ਰਤਨ ਹਨ।
These are priceless rubies and gems.
ਸੁਨਤਕਮਾਵਤਹੋਤਉਧਾਰ॥
(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਣਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਕਮਾਇਆਂ ਬੇੜਾ ਪਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who listens and acts on them is saved.
ਆਪਿਤਰੈਲੋਕਹਨਿਸਤਾਰ॥
(ਜੋ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਆਪ ਤਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He himself swims across, and saves others as well.
ਸਫਲਜੀਵਨੁਸਫਲੁਤਾਕਾਸੰਗੁ॥
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਮੁਰਾਦਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੁਰਾਦਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ;
His life is prosperous, and his company is fruitful;
ਜਾਕੈਮਨਿਲਾਗਾਹਰਿਰੰਗੁ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
his mind is imbued with the love of the Lord.
ਜੈਜੈਸਬਦੁਅਨਾਹਦੁਵਾਜੈ॥
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀਆਂ ਕਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੌ ਸਦਾ ਚਲਦੀ ਹੈ,
Hail, hail to him, for whom the sound current of the Shabad vibrates.
ਸੁਨਿਸੁਨਿਅਨਦਕਰੇਪ੍ਰਭੁਗਾਜੈ॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਭਾਵ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਉਹ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਪਣਾ ਨੂਰ ਰੋਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Hearing it again and again, he is in bliss, proclaiming God's Praises.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇਗੁਪਾਲਮਹਾਂਤਕੈਮਾਥੇ॥
ਗੋਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਉਚੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
The Lord radiates from the foreheads of the Holy.
ਨਾਨਕਉਧਰੇਤਿਨਕੈਸਾਥੇ॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਜੇਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਰ ਕਈ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੇੜਾ ਪਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
Nanak is saved in their company. ||3||
ਸਰਨਿਜੋਗੁਸੁਨਿਸਰਨੀਆਏ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਦਰ-ਢੱਠਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜਨ-ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆਏ ਸਾਂ,
Hearing that He can give Sanctuary, I have come seeking His Sanctuary.
ਕਰਿਕਿਰਪਾਪ੍ਰਭਆਪਮਿਲਾਏ॥
ਤੂੰ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸਾਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
Bestowing His Mercy, God has blended me with Himself.
ਮਿਟਿਗਏਬੈਰਭਏਸਭਰੇਨ॥
(ਹੁਣ ਸਾਡੇ) ਵੈਰ ਮਿਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਅਸੀਂ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਾਂ,
Hatred is gone, and I have become the dust of all.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਨਾਮੁਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਲੈਨ॥
(ਹੁਣ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਅਮਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ।
I have received the Ambrosial Naam in the Company of the Holy.
ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਭਏਗੁਰਦੇਵ॥
ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ (ਸਾਡੇ ਉਤੇ) ਤ੍ਰੁੱਠ ਪਏ ਹਨ,
The Divine Guru is perfectly pleased;
ਪੂਰਨਹੋਈਸੇਵਕਕੀਸੇਵ॥
ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਸਾਡੀ) ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
the service of His servant has been rewarded.
ਆਲਜੰਜਾਲਬਿਕਾਰਤੇਰਹਤੇ॥
(ਅਸੀਂ ਹੁਣ) ਘਰ ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਗਏ ਹਾਂ,
I have been released from worldly entanglements and corruption,
ਰਾਮਨਾਮਸੁਨਿਰਸਨਾਕਹਤੇ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ (ਭੀ) ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
hearing the Lord's Name and chanting it with my tongue.
ਕਰਿਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੁਦਇਆਪ੍ਰਭਿਧਾਰੀ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸਾਡੇ ਉਤੇ) ਦਇਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ,
By His Grace, God has bestowed His Mercy.
ਨਾਨਕਨਿਬਹੀਖੇਪਹਮਾਰੀ॥੪॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੇ ਸਾਡਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਵਣਜ ਦਰਗਾਹੇ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
O Nanak, my merchandise has arrived safe and sound. ||4||
ਪ੍ਰਭਕੀਉਸਤਤਿਕਰਹੁਸੰਤਮੀਤ॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ! ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰੋ-
Sing the Praises of God, O Saints, O friends,
ਸਾਵਧਾਨਏਕਾਗਰਚੀਤ॥
ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਚਿੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੇ ਤੇ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ।
with total concentration and one-pointedness of mind.
ਸੁਖਮਨੀਸਹਜਗੋਬਿੰਦਗੁਨਨਾਮ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ (ਦਾ ਕਾਰਣ ਹੈ ਤੇ) ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਣੀ (ਰਤਨ) ਹੈ,
Sukhmani is the peaceful ease, the Glory of God, the Naam.
ਜਿਸੁਮਨਿਬਸੈਸੁਹੋਤਨਿਧਾਨ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਨਾਮ) ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
When it abides in the mind, one becomes wealthy.
ਸਰਬਇਛਾਤਾਕੀਪੂਰਨਹੋਇ॥
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਿਆ ਸਾਰੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
All desires are fulfilled.
ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਪੁਰਖੁਪ੍ਰਗਟੁਸਭਲੋਇ॥
ਉਹ ਬੰਦਾ ਤੁਰਨੇ-ਸਿਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਘਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
One becomes the most respected person, famous all over the world.
ਸਭਤੇਊਚਪਾਏਅਸਥਾਨੁ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੇ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
He obtains the highest place of all.
ਬਹੁਰਿਨਹੋਵੈਆਵਨਜਾਨੁ॥
ਮੁੜ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦਾ ਗੇੜ) ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ।
He does not come and go in reincarnation any longer.
ਹਰਿਧਨੁਖਾਟਿਚਲੈਜਨੁਸੋਇ॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਰੂਪ ਧਨ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ (ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ) ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who departs, after earning the wealth of the Lord's Name,
ਨਾਨਕਜਿਸਹਿਪਰਾਪਤਿਹੋਇ॥੫॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਧੁਰੋਂ) ਇਹ ਦਾਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
O Nanak, realizes it. ||5||
ਖੇਮਸਾਂਤਿਰਿਧਿਨਵਨਿਧਿ॥
ਅਟੱਲ ਸੁਖ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਉ, ਰਿਧੀਆਂ, ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ,
Comfort, peace and tranquility, wealth and the nine treasures;
ਬੁਧਿਗਿਆਨੁਸਰਬਤਹਸਿਧਿ॥
ਅਕਲ, ਗਿਆਨ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਾਮਾਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ (ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ);
wisdom, knowledge, and all spiritual powers;
ਬਿਦਿਆਤਪੁਜੋਗੁਪ੍ਰਭਧਿਆਨੁ॥
ਵਿੱਦਿਆ, ਤਪ, ਜੋਗ, ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ,
learning, penance, Yoga and meditation on God;
