ਜਨਮਜਨਮਕੇਕਿਲਬਿਖਜਾਹਿ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਈ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ।
the sins of countless lifetimes shall depart.
ਆਪਿਜਪਹੁਅਵਰਾਨਾਮੁਜਪਾਵਹੁ॥
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਜਪ, ਤੇ, ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਪਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰ,
Chant the Naam yourself, and inspire others to chant it as well.
ਸੁਨਤਕਹਤਰਹਤਗਤਿਪਾਵਹੁ॥
(ਨਾਮ) ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ, ਉੱਚਾਰਦਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰਹਿਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਏਗੀ।
Hearing, speaking and living it, emancipation is obtained.
ਸਾਰਭੂਤਸਤਿਹਰਿਕੋਨਾਉ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਤਮ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੈ;
The essential reality is the True Name of the Lord.
ਸਹਜਿਸੁਭਾਇਨਾਨਕਗੁਨਗਾਉ॥੬॥
(ਤਾਂ ਤੇ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ॥੬॥
With intuitive ease, O Nanak, sing His Glorious Praises. ||6||
ਗੁਨਗਾਵਤਤੇਰੀਉਤਰਸਿਮੈਲੁ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਤੇਰੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਏਗੀ,
Chanting His Glories, your filth shall be washed off.
ਬਿਨਸਿਜਾਇਹਉਮੈਬਿਖੁਫੈਲੁ॥
ਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੂਪੀ ਵਿਹੁ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਭੀ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਏਗਾ।
The all-consuming poison of ego will be gone.
ਹੋਹਿਅਚਿੰਤੁਬਸੈਸੁਖਨਾਲਿ॥
ਤੂੰ ਬੇਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਹਿਂਗਾ ਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ-
You shall become carefree, and you shall dwell in peace.
ਸਾਸਿਗ੍ਰਾਸਿਹਰਿਨਾਮੁਸਮਾਲਿ॥
ਦਮ-ਬ-ਦਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ।
With every breath and every morsel of food, cherish the Lord's Name.
ਛਾਡਿਸਿਆਨਪਸਗਲੀਮਨਾ॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਸਾਰੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ,
Renounce all clever tricks, O mind.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਪਾਵਹਿਸਚੁਧਨਾ॥
ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਧਨ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ।
In the Company of the Holy, you shall obtain the true wealth.
ਹਰਿਪੂੰਜੀਸੰਚਿਕਰਹੁਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਸ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰ, ਇਹੀ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਕਰ।
So gather the Lord's Name as your capital, and trade in it.
ਈਹਾਸੁਖੁਦਰਗਹਜੈਕਾਰੁ॥
ਇਸ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ, ਤੇ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
In this world you shall be at peace, and in the Court of the Lord, you shall be acclaimed.
ਸਰਬਨਿਰੰਤਰਿਏਕੋਦੇਖੁ॥
ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੇਖ।
See the One permeating all;
ਕਹੁਨਾਨਕਜਾਕੈਮਸਤਕਿਲੇਖੁ॥੭॥
(ਪਰ) ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- (ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਓਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਹਨ ॥੭॥
says Nanak, your destiny is pre-ordained. ||7||
ਏਕੋਜਪਿਏਕੋਸਾਲਾਹਿ॥
ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਪ, ਤੇ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਕਰ,
Meditate on the One, and worship the One.
ਏਕੁਸਿਮਰਿਏਕੋਮਨਆਹਿ॥
ਇਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ, ਤੇ, ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਰੱਖ।
Remember the One, and yearn for the One in your mind.
ਏਕਸਕੇਗੁਨਗਾਉਅਨੰਤ॥
ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ,
Sing the endless Glorious Praises of the One.
ਮਨਿਤਨਿਜਾਪਿਏਕਭਗਵੰਤ॥
ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਕ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਪ।
With mind and body, meditate on the One Lord God.
ਏਕੋਏਕੁਏਕੁਹਰਿਆਪਿ॥
(ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੈ,
The One Lord Himself is the One and Only.
ਪੂਰਨਪੂਰਿਰਹਿਓਪ੍ਰਭੁਬਿਆਪਿ॥
ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
The Pervading Lord God is totally permeating all.
ਅਨਿਕਬਿਸਥਾਰਏਕਤੇਭਏ॥
(ਜਗਤ ਦੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਖਿਲਾਰੇ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
The many expanses of the creation have all come from the One.
ਏਕੁਅਰਾਧਿਪਰਾਛਤਗਏ॥
ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Adoring the One, past sins are removed.
ਮਨਤਨਅੰਤਰਿਏਕੁਪ੍ਰਭੁਰਾਤਾ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਪਰੋਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
Mind and body within are imbued with the One God.
ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿਨਾਨਕਇਕੁਜਾਤਾ॥੮॥੧੯॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧੯॥
By Guru's Grace, O Nanak, the One is known. ||8||19||

Shalok:
ਫਿਰਤਫਿਰਤਪ੍ਰਭਆਇਆਪਰਿਆਤਉਸਰਨਾਇ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਭਟਕਦਾ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
After wandering and wandering, O God, I have come, and entered Your Sanctuary.
ਨਾਨਕਕੀਪ੍ਰਭਬੇਨਤੀਅਪਨੀਭਗਤੀਲਾਇ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਇਹੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ॥੧॥
This is Nanak's prayer, O God: please, attach me to Your devotional service. ||1||
ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Ashtapadee:
ਜਾਚਕੁਜਨੁਜਾਚੈਪ੍ਰਭਦਾਨੁ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਇਹ) ਮੰਗਤਾ ਦਾਸ (ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ;
I am a beggar; I beg for this gift from You:
ਕਰਿਕਿਰਪਾਦੇਵਹੁਹਰਿਨਾਮੁ॥
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਨਾਮ ਦਿਹੁ।
please, by Your Mercy, Lord, give me Your Name.
ਸਾਧਜਨਾਕੀਮਾਗਉਧੂਰਿ॥
ਮੈਂ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
I ask for the dust of the feet of the Holy.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਮੇਰੀਸਰਧਾਪੂਰਿ॥
ਹੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ! ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ।
O Supreme Lord God, please fulfill my yearning;
ਸਦਾਸਦਾਪ੍ਰਭਕੇਗੁਨਗਾਵਉ॥
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾਂ।
may I sing the Glorious Praises of God forever and ever.
ਸਾਸਿਸਾਸਿਪ੍ਰਭਤੁਮਹਿਧਿਆਵਉ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਦਮ-ਬ-ਦਮ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਾਂ।
With each and every breath, may I meditate on You, O God.
ਚਰਨਕਮਲਸਿਉਲਾਗੈਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕਮਲ (ਵਰਗੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ) ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹੇ,
May I enshrine affection for Your Lotus Feet.
ਭਗਤਿਕਰਉਪ੍ਰਭਕੀਨਿਤਨੀਤਿ॥
ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ।
May I perform devotional worship to God each and every day.
ਏਕਓਟਏਕੋਆਧਾਰੁ॥
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ) ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਕੋ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ,
You are my only Shelter, my only Support.
ਨਾਨਕੁਮਾਗੈਨਾਮੁਪ੍ਰਭਸਾਰੁ॥੧॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਨਾਮ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
Nanak asks for the most sublime, the Naam, the Name of God. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭਕੀਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਮਹਾਸੁਖੁਹੋਇ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ (ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ) ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਬੜਾ ਸੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
By God's Gracious Glance, there is great peace.
ਹਰਿਰਸੁਪਾਵੈਬਿਰਲਾਕੋਇ॥
(ਪਰ) ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
Rare are those who obtain the juice of the Lord's essence.
ਜਿਨਚਾਖਿਆਸੇਜਨਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨੇ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ (ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ) ਚੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਗਏ ਹਨ,
Those who taste it are satisfied.
ਪੂਰਨਪੁਰਖਨਹੀਡੋਲਾਨੇ॥
ਉਹ ਪੂਰਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਕਦੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਲਾਹੇ ਘਾਟੇ ਵਿਚ) ਡੋਲਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ।
They are fulfilled and realized beings - they do not waver.
ਸੁਭਰਭਰੇਪ੍ਰੇਮਰਸਰੰਗਿ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਦੀ ਮੌਜ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਨਕਾ-ਨਕ ਭਰੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
They are totally filled to over-flowing with the sweet delight of His Love.
ਉਪਜੈਚਾਉਸਾਧਕੈਸੰਗਿ॥
ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ) ਚਾਉ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Spiritual delight wells up within, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਪਰੇਸਰਨਿਆਨਸਭਤਿਆਗਿ॥
ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ (ਆਸਰੇ) ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Taking to His Sanctuary, they forsake all others.
ਅੰਤਰਿਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁਅਨਦਿਨੁਲਿਵਲਾਗਿ॥
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਿਵ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Deep within, they are enlightened, and they center themselves on Him, day and night.
ਬਡਭਾਗੀਜਪਿਆਪ੍ਰਭੁਸੋਇ॥
ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ।
Most fortunate are those who meditate on God.
ਨਾਨਕਨਾਮਿਰਤੇਸੁਖੁਹੋਇ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤਿਆਂ ਸੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, attuned to the Naam, they are at peace. ||2||
ਸੇਵਕਕੀਮਨਸਾਪੂਰੀਭਈ॥
(ਤਦੋਂ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਨੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਭਾਵ, ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਦੌੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)
The wishes of the Lord's servant are fulfilled.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਤੇਨਿਰਮਲਮਤਿਲਈ॥
(ਜਦੋਂ ਸੇਵਕ) ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਤਮ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
From the True Guru, the pure teachings are obtained.
ਜਨਕਉਪ੍ਰਭੁਹੋਇਓਦਇਆਲੁ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ (ਅਜੇਹੇ) ਸੇਵਕ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Unto His humble servant, God has shown His kindness.
ਸੇਵਕੁਕੀਨੋਸਦਾਨਿਹਾਲੁ॥
ਤੇ, ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜੇ-ਮੱਥੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
He has made His servant eternally happy.
ਬੰਧਨਕਾਟਿਮੁਕਤਿਜਨੁਭਇਆ॥
ਸੇਵਕ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੇ) ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰ ਤੋੜ ਕੇ ਖਲਾਸਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
The bonds of His humble servant are cut away, and he is liberated.
ਜਨਮਮਰਨਦੂਖੁਭ੍ਰਮੁਗਇਆ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦੇ ਗੇੜ) ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਸਹਸਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The pains of birth and death, and doubt are gone.
ਇਛਪੁਨੀਸਰਧਾਸਭਪੂਰੀ॥
ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਤੇ ਸਰਧਾ ਸਭ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
Desires are satisfied, and faith is fully rewarded,
ਰਵਿਰਹਿਆਸਦਸੰਗਿਹਜੂਰੀ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
imbued forever with His all-pervading peace.
ਜਿਸਕਾਸਾਤਿਨਿਲੀਆਮਿਲਾਇ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
He is His - he merges in Union with Him.
ਨਾਨਕਭਗਤੀਨਾਮਿਸਮਾਇ॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੇਵਕ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
Nanak is absorbed in devotional worship of the Naam. ||3||
ਸੋਕਿਉਬਿਸਰੈਜਿਘਾਲਨਭਾਨੈ॥
(ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਉਂ ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਏ ਜੋ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ) ਮੇਹਨਤ ਨੂੰ ਅਜਾਈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਦੇਂਦਾ,
Why forget Him, who does not overlook our efforts?
ਸੋਕਿਉਬਿਸਰੈਜਿਕੀਆਜਾਨੈ॥
ਜੋ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ?
Why forget Him, who acknowledges what we do?
