ਪੁਰਬਲਿਖੇਕਾਲਿਖਿਆਪਾਈਐ॥
ਪਿਛਲੇ ਬੀਜੇ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਹੀ ਖਾਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
You shall obtain your pre-ordained destiny.
ਦੂਖਸੂਖਪ੍ਰਭਦੇਵਨਹਾਰੁ॥
ਦੁੱਖ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੈ,
God is the Giver of pain and pleasure.
ਅਵਰਤਿਆਗਿਤੂਤਿਸਹਿਚਿਤਾਰੁ॥
(ਤਾਂ ਤੇ) ਹੋਰ (ਆਸਰੇ) ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ।
Abandon others, and think of Him alone.
ਜੋਕਛੁਕਰੈਸੋਈਸੁਖੁਮਾਨੁ॥
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਸਮਝ।
Whatever He does - take comfort in that.
ਭੂਲਾਕਾਹੇਫਿਰਹਿਅਜਾਨ॥
ਹੇ ਅੰਞਾਣ! ਕਿਉ ਭੁੱਲਿਆਂ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ?
Why do you wander around, you ignorant fool?
ਕਉਨਬਸਤੁਆਈਤੇਰੈਸੰਗਿ॥
(ਦੱਸ) ਕੇਹੜੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਈ ਸੀ।
What things did you bring with you?
ਲਪਟਿਰਹਿਓਰਸਿਲੋਭੀਪਤੰਗ॥
ਹੇ ਲੋਭੀ ਭੰਬਟ! ਤੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
You cling to worldly pleasures like a greedy moth.
ਰਾਮਨਾਮਜਪਿਹਿਰਦੇਮਾਹਿ॥
ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ,
Dwell upon the Lord's Name in your heart.
ਨਾਨਕਪਤਿਸੇਤੀਘਰਿਜਾਹਿ॥੪॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਾਲੇ) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਵਹਿਂਗਾ ॥੪॥
O Nanak, thus you shall return to your home with honor. ||4||
ਜਿਸੁਵਖਰਕਉਲੈਨਿਤੂਆਇਆ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਖ਼ਰੀਦਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੂੰ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ,
This merchandise, which you have come to obtain
ਰਾਮਨਾਮੁਸੰਤਨਘਰਿਪਾਇਆ॥
ਉਹ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ (-ਰੂਪੀ ਸੌਦਾ) ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
- the Lord's Name is obtained in the home of the Saints.
ਤਜਿਅਭਿਮਾਨੁਲੇਹੁਮਨਮੋਲਿ॥
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, ਤੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਵੱਟੇ (ਇਹ ਵੱਖਰ) ਖ਼ਰੀਦ ਲੈ,
Renounce your egotistical pride, and with your mind,
ਰਾਮਨਾਮੁਹਿਰਦੇਮਹਿਤੋਲਿ॥
ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਖ।
purchase the Lord's Name - measure it out within your heart.
ਲਾਦਿਖੇਪਸੰਤਹਸੰਗਿਚਾਲੁ॥
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਗ ਤੁਰ ਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸੌਦਾ ਲੱਦ ਲੈ,
Load up this merchandise, and set out with the Saints.
ਅਵਰਤਿਆਗਿਬਿਖਿਆਜੰਜਾਲ॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਧੰਧੇ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ।
Give up other corrupt entanglements.
ਧੰਨਿਧੰਨਿਕਹੈਸਭੁਕੋਇ॥
(ਜੇ ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਹਿਂਗਾ ਤਾਂ) ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ੇ ਆਖੇਗਾ,
"Blessed, blessed", everyone will call you,
ਮੁਖਊਜਲਹਰਿਦਰਗਹਸੋਇ॥
ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਉਜਲਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
and your face shall be radiant in the Court of the Lord.
ਇਹੁਵਾਪਾਰੁਵਿਰਲਾਵਾਪਾਰੈ॥
(ਪਰ) ਇਹ ਵਪਾਰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
In this trade, only a few are trading.
ਨਾਨਕਤਾਕੈਸਦਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ॥੫॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਜੇਹੇ (ਵਪਾਰੀ) ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਈਏ ॥੫॥
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to them. ||5||
ਚਰਨਸਾਧਕੇਧੋਇਧੋਇਪੀਉ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਧੋ ਧੋ ਕੇ (ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ) ਪੀ,
Wash the feet of the Holy, and drink in this water.
ਅਰਪਿਸਾਧਕਉਅਪਨਾਜੀਉ॥
ਸਾਧ-ਜਨ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਭੀ ਵਾਰ ਦੇਹ।
Dedicate your soul to the Holy.
ਸਾਧਕੀਧੂਰਿਕਰਹੁਇਸਨਾਨੁ॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰ,
Take your cleansing bath in the dust of the feet of the Holy.
ਸਾਧਊਪਰਿਜਾਈਐਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੋਹੁ।
To the Holy, make your life a sacrifice.
ਸਾਧਸੇਵਾਵਡਭਾਗੀਪਾਈਐ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ,
Service to the Holy is obtained by great good fortune.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਹਰਿਕੀਰਤਨੁਗਾਈਐ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is sung.
ਅਨਿਕਬਿਘਨਤੇਸਾਧੂਰਾਖੈ॥
ਸੰਤ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਔਕੜਾਂ ਤੋਂ (ਜੋ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
From all sorts of dangers, the Saint saves us.
ਹਰਿਗੁਨਗਾਇਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਸੁਚਾਖੈ॥
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, we taste the ambrosial essence.
ਓਟਗਹੀਸੰਤਹਦਰਿਆਇਆ॥
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਡਿੱਗਾ ਹੈ,
Seeking the Protection of the Saints, we have come to their door.
ਸਰਬਸੂਖਨਾਨਕਤਿਹਪਾਇਆ॥੬॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਪਾ ਲਏ ਹਨ ॥੬॥
All comforts, O Nanak, are so obtained. ||6||
ਮਿਰਤਕਕਉਜੀਵਾਲਨਹਾਰ॥
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਮੋਏ ਹੋਏ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਵਾਲਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈ,
He infuses life back into the dead.
ਭੂਖੇਕਉਦੇਵਤਅਧਾਰ॥
ਭੁੱਖੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He gives food to the hungry.
ਸਰਬਨਿਧਾਨਜਾਕੀਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀਮਾਹਿ॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ,
All treasures are within His Glance of Grace.
ਪੁਰਬਲਿਖੇਕਾਲਹਣਾਪਾਹਿ॥
(ਪਰ ਜੀਵ) ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਭੋਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
People obtain that which they are pre-ordained to receive.
ਸਭੁਕਿਛੁਤਿਸਕਾਓਹੁਕਰਨੈਜੋਗੁ॥
ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ;
All things are His; He is the Doer of all.
ਤਿਸੁਬਿਨੁਦੂਸਰਹੋਆਨਹੋਗੁ॥
ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
Other than Him, there has never been any other, and there shall never be.
ਜਪਿਜਨਸਦਾਸਦਾਦਿਨੁਰੈਣੀ॥
ਹੇ ਜਨ! ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ,
Meditate on Him forever and ever, day and night.
ਸਭਤੇਊਚਨਿਰਮਲਇਹਕਰਣੀ॥
ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਣੀਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਇਹੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਤੇ ਸੁੱਚੀ ਹੈ।
This way of life is exalted and immaculate.
ਕਰਿਕਿਰਪਾਜਿਸਕਉਨਾਮੁਦੀਆ॥
ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ,
One whom the Lord, in His Grace, blesses with His Name
ਨਾਨਕਸੋਜਨੁਨਿਰਮਲੁਥੀਆ॥੭॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
- O Nanak, that person becomes immaculate and pure. ||7||
ਜਾਕੈਮਨਿਗੁਰਕੀਪਰਤੀਤਿ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹੈ,
One who has faith in the Guru in his mind
ਤਿਸੁਜਨਆਵੈਹਰਿਪ੍ਰਭੁਚੀਤਿ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
comes to dwell upon the Lord God.
ਭਗਤੁਭਗਤੁਸੁਨੀਐਤਿਹੁਲੋਇ॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਭਗਤ ਭਗਤ ਸੁਣੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
He is acclaimed as a devotee, a humble devotee throughout the three worlds.
ਜਾਕੈਹਿਰਦੈਏਕੋਹੋਇ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ;
The One Lord is in his heart.
ਸਚੁਕਰਣੀਸਚੁਤਾਕੀਰਹਤ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅਮਲੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਤੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਅਸੂਲ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਹਨ,
True are his actions; true are his ways.
ਸਚੁਹਿਰਦੈਸਤਿਮੁਖਿਕਹਤ॥
ਸੱਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਉੱਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
True is his heart; Truth is what he speaks with his mouth.
ਸਾਚੀਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਸਾਚਾਆਕਾਰੁ॥
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, (ਤਾਹੀਏਂ) ਸਾਰਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਮਾਨ ਜਗਤ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
True is his vision; true is his form.
ਸਚੁਵਰਤੈਸਾਚਾਪਾਸਾਰੁ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ) ਮੌਜੂਦ (ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ (ਸਾਰਾ) ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
He distributes Truth and he spreads Truth.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਜਿਨਿਸਚੁਕਰਿਜਾਤਾ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੈ,
One who recognizes the Supreme Lord God as True
ਨਾਨਕਸੋਜਨੁਸਚਿਸਮਾਤਾ॥੮॥੧੫॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧੫॥
- O Nanak, that humble being is absorbed into the True One. ||8||15||
ਸਲੋਕੁ॥
Shalok:
ਰੂਪੁਨਰੇਖਨਰੰਗੁਕਿਛੁਤ੍ਰਿਹੁਗੁਣਤੇਪ੍ਰਭਭਿੰਨ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਨ ਚਿਹਨ-ਚੱਕ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਰੰਗ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬੇ-ਦਾਗ਼ ਹੈ।
He has no form, no shape, no color; God is beyond the three qualities.
ਤਿਸਹਿਬੁਝਾਏਨਾਨਕਾਜਿਸੁਹੋਵੈਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਆਪ ਤ੍ਰੁੱਠਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
They alone understand Him, O Nanak, with whom He is pleased. ||1||
ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Ashtapadee:
ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀਪ੍ਰਭੁਮਨਮਹਿਰਾਖੁ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੋ ਰੱਖ,
Keep the Immortal Lord God enshrined within your mind.
ਮਾਨੁਖਕੀਤੂਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਤਿਆਗੁ॥
ਅਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ (ਮੋਹ) ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ।
Renounce your love and attachment to people.
ਤਿਸਤੇਪਰੈਨਾਹੀਕਿਛੁਕੋਇ॥
ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਨਹੀਂ, ਕੋਈ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ[
Beyond Him, there is nothing at all.
ਸਰਬਨਿਰੰਤਰਿਏਕੋਸੋਇ॥
ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੀ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
The One Lord is pervading among all.
ਆਪੇਬੀਨਾਆਪੇਦਾਨਾ॥
ਉਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ) ਪਛਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
He Himself is All-seeing; He Himself is All-knowing,
ਗਹਿਰਗੰਭੀਰੁਗਹੀਰੁਸੁਜਾਨਾ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬੜਾ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਹੈ, ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈ,
Unfathomable, Profound, Deep and All-knowing.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਗੋਬਿੰਦ॥
ਹੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਭ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਕ!
He is the Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent Lord, the Lord of the Universe,
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਿਧਾਨਦਇਆਲਬਖਸੰਦ॥
ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ! ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ! ਤੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣਹਾਰ!
the Treasure of mercy, compassion and forgiveness.
ਸਾਧਤੇਰੇਕੀਚਰਨੀਪਾਉ॥
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਧਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਪਵਾਂ,
To fall at the Feet of Your Holy Beings
