ਜਿਸਨੋਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਕਰੈਤਿਸੁਆਪਨਨਾਮੁਦੇਇ॥
ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ;
He Himself gives His Name to those, upon whom He bestows His Mercy.
ਬਡਭਾਗੀਨਾਨਕਜਨਸੇਇ॥੮॥੧੩॥
(ਤੇ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੮॥੧੩॥
Very fortunate, O Nanak, are those people. ||8||13||
ਸਲੋਕੁ॥
Shalok:
ਤਜਹੁਸਿਆਨਪਸੁਰਿਜਨਹੁਸਿਮਰਹੁਹਰਿਹਰਿਰਾਇ॥
ਹੇ ਭਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖੋ! ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਛੱਡੋ ਤੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰੋ;
Give up your cleverness, good people - remember the Lord God, your King!
ਏਕਆਸਹਰਿਮਨਿਰਖਹੁਨਾਨਕਦੂਖੁਭਰਮੁਭਉਜਾਇ॥੧॥
ਕੇਵਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖੋ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਦੁੱਖ ਵਹਮ ਤੇ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
Enshrine in your heart, your hopes in the One Lord. O Nanak, your pain, doubt and fear shall depart. ||1||
ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Ashtapadee:
ਮਾਨੁਖਕੀਟੇਕਬ੍ਰਿਥੀਸਭਜਾਨੁ॥
(ਹੇ ਮਨ!) (ਕਿਸੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਉੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਸਮਝ,
Reliance on mortals is in vain - know this well.
ਦੇਵਨਕਉਏਕੈਭਗਵਾਨੁ॥
ਇਕ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਦੇਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈ;
The Great Giver is the One Lord God.
ਜਿਸਕੈਦੀਐਰਹੈਅਘਾਇ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਿਆਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਰੱਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
By His gifts, we are satisfied,
ਬਹੁਰਿਨਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾਲਾਗੈਆਇ॥
ਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਲਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਦਬਾਉਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
and we suffer from thirst no longer.
ਮਾਰੈਰਾਖੈਏਕੋਆਪਿ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਾਂ) ਪਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
The One Lord Himself destroys and also preserves.
ਮਾਨੁਖਕੈਕਿਛੁਨਾਹੀਹਾਥਿ॥
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
Nothing at all is in the hands of mortal beings.
ਤਿਸਕਾਹੁਕਮੁਬੂਝਿਸੁਖੁਹੋਇ॥
(ਤਾਂ ਤੇ) ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Understanding His Order, there is peace.
ਤਿਸਕਾਨਾਮੁਰਖੁਕੰਠਿਪਰੋਇ॥
(ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ।
So take His Name, and wear it as your necklace.
ਸਿਮਰਿਸਿਮਰਿਸਿਮਰਿਪ੍ਰਭੁਸੋਇ॥
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰ।
Remember, remember, remember God in meditation.
ਨਾਨਕਬਿਘਨੁਨਲਾਗੈਕੋਇ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, no obstacle shall stand in your way. ||1||
ਉਸਤਤਿਮਨਮਹਿਕਰਿਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ॥
ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰ।
Praise the Formless Lord in your mind.
ਕਰਿਮਨਮੇਰੇਸਤਿਬਿਉਹਾਰ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਇਹ ਸੱਚਾ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਕਰ।
O my mind, make this your true occupation.
ਨਿਰਮਲਰਸਨਾਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁਪੀਉ॥
ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਮਿੱਠਾ (ਨਾਮ-) ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀ,
Let your tongue become pure, drinking in the Ambrosial Nectar.
ਸਦਾਸੁਹੇਲਾਕਰਿਲੇਹਿਜੀਉ॥
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਸੁਖੀ ਕਰ ਲੈ।
Your soul shall be forever peaceful.
ਨੈਨਹੁਪੇਖੁਠਾਕੁਰਕਾਰੰਗੁ॥
ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ (ਜਗਤ-) ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਵੇਖ,
With your eyes, see the wondrous play of your Lord and Master.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਬਿਨਸੈਸਭਸੰਗੁ॥
ਭਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕਿਆਂ) ਹੋਰ (ਕੁਟੰਬ ਆਦਿਕ ਦਾ) ਮੋਹ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
In the Company of the Holy, all other associations vanish.
ਚਰਨਚਲਉਮਾਰਗਿਗੋਬਿੰਦ॥
ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ।
With your feet, walk in the Way of the Lord.
ਮਿਟਹਿਪਾਪਜਪੀਐਹਰਿਬਿੰਦ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਜਪੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Sins are washed away, chanting the Lord's Name, even for a moment.
ਕਰਹਰਿਕਰਮਸ੍ਰਵਨਿਹਰਿਕਥਾ॥
ਹੱਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਰਾਹ) ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਕੰਨ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ (ਸੁਣ);
So do the Lord's Work, and listen to the Lord's Sermon.
ਹਰਿਦਰਗਹਨਾਨਕਊਜਲਮਥਾ॥੨॥
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਖ਼-ਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
In the Lord's Court, O Nanak, your face shall be radiant. ||2||
ਬਡਭਾਗੀਤੇਜਨਜਗਮਾਹਿ॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ,
Very fortunate are those humble beings in this world,
ਸਦਾਸਦਾਹਰਿਕੇਗੁਨਗਾਹਿ॥
(ਜੋ) ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
who sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, forever and ever.
ਰਾਮਨਾਮਜੋਕਰਹਿਬੀਚਾਰ॥
ਜੋ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
Those who dwell upon the Lord's Name,
ਸੇਧਨਵੰਤਗਨੀਸੰਸਾਰ॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਧਨੀ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਰੱਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
are the most wealthy and prosperous in the world.
ਮਨਿਤਨਿਮੁਖਿਬੋਲਹਿਹਰਿਮੁਖੀ॥
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਭਲੇ ਲੋਕ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
Those who speak of the Supreme Lord in thought, word and deed
ਸਦਾਸਦਾਜਾਨਹੁਤੇਸੁਖੀ॥
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੀ ਜਾਣੋ।
know that they are peaceful and happy, forever and ever.
ਏਕੋਏਕੁਏਕੁਪਛਾਨੈ॥
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who recognizes the One and only Lord as One,
ਇਤਉਤਕੀਓਹੁਸੋਝੀਜਾਨੈ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
understands this world and the next.
ਨਾਮਸੰਗਿਜਿਸਕਾਮਨੁਮਾਨਿਆ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰਚ ਮਿਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
One whose mind accepts the Company of the Naam,
ਨਾਨਕਤਿਨਹਿਨਿਰੰਜਨੁਜਾਨਿਆ॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
the Name of the Lord, O Nanak, knows the Immaculate Lord. ||3||
ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿਆਪਨਆਪੁਸੁਝੈ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਸੁੱਝ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
By Guru's Grace, one understands himself;
ਤਿਸਕੀਜਾਨਹੁਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾਬੁਝੈ॥
ਇਹ ਜਾਣ ਲਵੋ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
know that then, his thirst is quenched.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਹਰਿਹਰਿਜਸੁਕਹਤ॥
ਜੋ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
In the Company of the Holy, one chants the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਸਰਬਰੋਗਤੇਓਹੁਹਰਿਜਨੁਰਹਤ॥
ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Such a devotee of the Lord is free of all disease.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁਕੀਰਤਨੁਕੇਵਲਬਖੵਾਨੁ॥
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੀ ਉੱਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Night and day, sing the Kirtan, the Praises of the One Lord.
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤਮਹਿਸੋਈਨਿਰਬਾਨੁ॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੈ।
In the midst of your household, remain balanced and unattached.
ਏਕਊਪਰਿਜਿਸੁਜਨਕੀਆਸਾ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਇਕ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੈ,
One who places his hopes in the One Lord
ਤਿਸਕੀਕਟੀਐਜਮਕੀਫਾਸਾ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਮਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
the noose of Death is cut away from his neck.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਕੀਜਿਸੁਮਨਿਭੂਖ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਮਿਲਣ) ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੈ,
One whose mind hungers for the Supreme Lord God,
ਨਾਨਕਤਿਸਹਿਨਲਾਗਹਿਦੂਖ॥੪॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਂਹਦਾ ॥੪॥
O Nanak, shall not suffer pain. ||4||
ਜਿਸਕਉਹਰਿਪ੍ਰਭੁਮਨਿਚਿਤਿਆਵੈ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਯਾਦ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who focuses his conscious mind on the Lord God
ਸੋਸੰਤੁਸੁਹੇਲਾਨਹੀਡੁਲਾਵੈ॥
ਉਹ ਸੰਤ ਹੈ, ਸੁਖੀ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਕਦੇ) ਘਾਬਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
- that Saint is at peace; he does not waver.
ਜਿਸੁਪ੍ਰਭੁਅਪੁਨਾਕਿਰਪਾਕਰੈ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Those unto whom God has granted His Grace
ਸੋਸੇਵਕੁਕਹੁਕਿਸਤੇਡਰੈ॥
ਦੱਸੋ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ (ਹੋਰ) ਕਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਡਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
who do those servants need to fear?
ਜੈਸਾਸਾਤੈਸਾਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਇਆ॥
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਹ (ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ) ਹੈ,
As God is, so does He appear;
ਅਪੁਨੇਕਾਰਜਮਹਿਆਪਿਸਮਾਇਆ॥
(ਭਾਵ ਇਹ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਪ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ;
in His Own creation, He Himself is pervading.
ਸੋਧਤਸੋਧਤਸੋਧਤਸੀਝਿਆ॥
ਨਿੱਤ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ (ਉਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਸਫਲਤਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
Searching, searching, searching, and finally, success!
ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿਤਤੁਸਭੁਬੂਝਿਆ॥
(ਭਾਵ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਾਰੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
By Guru's Grace, the essence of all reality is understood.
ਜਬਦੇਖਉਤਬਸਭੁਕਿਛੁਮੂਲੁ॥
(ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ) ਮੈਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਉਸ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਮੁਢ (-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ),
Wherever I look, there I see Him, at the root of all things.
ਨਾਨਕਸੋਸੂਖਮੁਸੋਈਅਸਥੂਲੁ॥੫॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਜੋਤਿ ਭੀ ਆਪਿ ਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
O Nanak, He is the subtle, and He is also the manifest. ||5||
ਨਹਕਿਛੁਜਨਮੈਨਹਕਿਛੁਮਰੈ॥
ਨਾਹ ਕੁਝ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਕੁਝ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
Nothing is born, and nothing dies.
ਆਪਨਚਲਿਤੁਆਪਹੀਕਰੈ॥
(ਇਹ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦਾ ਤਾਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਖੇਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ;
He Himself stages His own drama.
ਆਵਨੁਜਾਵਨੁਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਅਨਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ॥
ਜੰਮਣਾ, ਮਰਣਾ, ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਤੇ ਅਣ-ਦਿੱਸਦਾ-
Coming and going, seen and unseen,
ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀਧਾਰੀਸਭਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ॥
ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
all the world is obedient to His Will.
