ਨਾਨਕਸੰਤਭਾਵੈਤਾਓਇਭੀਗਤਿਪਾਹਿ॥੨॥
(ਹਾਂ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਭੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ ਅੱਪੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, if it pleases the Saint, even then, he may be saved. ||2||
ਸੰਤਕਾਨਿੰਦਕੁਮਹਾਅਤਤਾਈ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਦਾ ਅੱਤ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
The slanderer of the Saint is the worst evil-doer.
ਸੰਤਕਾਨਿੰਦਕੁਖਿਨੁਟਿਕਨੁਨਪਾਈ॥
ਤੇ ਇਕ ਪਲਕ ਭਰ ਭੀ (ਅੱਤ ਚੁੱਕਣ ਵਲੋਂ) ਆਰਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈਂਦਾ।
The slanderer of the Saint has not even a moment's rest.
ਸੰਤਕਾਨਿੰਦਕੁਮਹਾਹਤਿਆਰਾ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਜ਼ਾਲਮ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
The slanderer of the Saint is a brutal butcher.
ਸੰਤਕਾਨਿੰਦਕੁਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਿਮਾਰਾ॥
ਤੇ ਰੱਬ ਵਲੋਂ ਫਿਟਕਾਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The slanderer of the Saint is cursed by the Transcendent Lord.
ਸੰਤਕਾਨਿੰਦਕੁਰਾਜਤੇਹੀਨੁ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਰਾਜ (ਭਾਵ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ) ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The slanderer of the Saint has no kingdom.
ਸੰਤਕਾਨਿੰਦਕੁਦੁਖੀਆਅਰੁਦੀਨੁ॥
(ਸਦਾ) ਦੁਖੀ ਤੇ ਆਤੁਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The slanderer of the Saint becomes miserable and poor.
ਸੰਤਕੇਨਿੰਦਕਕਉਸਰਬਰੋਗ॥
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਆਪਦੇ ਹਨ,
The slanderer of the Saint contracts all diseases.
ਸੰਤਕੇਨਿੰਦਕਕਉਸਦਾਬਿਜੋਗ॥
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ) ਸਦਾ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The slanderer of the Saint is forever separated.
ਸੰਤਕੀਨਿੰਦਾਦੋਖਮਹਿਦੋਖੁ॥
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਨੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਮਾੜਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ।
To slander a Saint is the worst sin of sins.
ਨਾਨਕਸੰਤਭਾਵੈਤਾਉਸਕਾਭੀਹੋਇਮੋਖੁ॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ (ਨਿੰਦਕ) ਦਾ ਭੀ (ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਤੋਂ) ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
O Nanak, if it pleases the Saint, then even this one may be liberated. ||3||
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਸਦਾਅਪਵਿਤੁ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਸਦਾ ਮੈਲੇ ਮਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
The slanderer of the Saint is forever impure.
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਕਿਸੈਕਾਨਹੀਮਿਤੁ॥
(ਤਾਹੀਏਂ) ਉਹ (ਕਦੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਸੱਜਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ।
The slanderer of the Saint is nobody's friend.
ਸੰਤਕੇਦੋਖੀਕਉਡਾਨੁਲਾਗੈ॥
(ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ) ਸੰਤ ਦੇ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਨੂੰ (ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਤੋਂ) ਸਜ਼ਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ,
The slanderer of the Saint shall be punished.
ਸੰਤਕੇਦੋਖੀਕਉਸਭਤਿਆਗੈ॥
ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The slanderer of the Saint is abandoned by all.
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਮਹਾਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੜਾ ਆਕੜ-ਖਾਨ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
The slanderer of the Saint is totally egocentric.
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਸਦਾਬਿਕਾਰੀ॥
ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਮੰਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The slanderer of the Saint is forever corrupt.
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਜਨਮੈਮਰੈ॥
(ਇਹਨੀਂ ਔਗੁਣੀਂ) ਸੰਤ ਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The slanderer of the Saint must endure birth and death.
ਸੰਤਕੀਦੂਖਨਾਸੁਖਤੇਟਰੈ॥
ਤੇ ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The slanderer of the Saint is devoid of peace.
ਸੰਤਕੇਦੋਖੀਕਉਨਾਹੀਠਾਉ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦੇ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ,
The slanderer of the Saint has no place of rest.
ਨਾਨਕਸੰਤਭਾਵੈਤਾਲਏਮਿਲਾਇ॥੪॥
(ਪਰ ਹਾਂ), ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਸੰਤ ਚਾਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ (ਨਿੰਦਕ) ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
O Nanak, if it pleases the Saint, then even such a one may merge in union. ||4||
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਅਧਬੀਚਤੇਟੂਟੈ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਅੱਧ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
The slanderer of the Saint breaks down mid-way.
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਕਿਤੈਕਾਜਿਨਪਹੂਚੈ॥
ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ।
The slanderer of the Saint cannot accomplish his tasks.
ਸੰਤਕੇਦੋਖੀਕਉਉਦਿਆਨਭ੍ਰਮਾਈਐ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦੇ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਨੂੰ, (ਮਾਨੋ) ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
The slanderer of the Saint wanders in the wilderness.
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਉਝੜਿਪਾਈਐ॥
ਤੇ (ਰਾਹੋਂ ਖੁੰਝਾ ਕੇ) ਔੜਦੇ ਪਾ ਦੇਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
The slanderer of the Saint is misled into desolation.
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਅੰਤਰਤੇਥੋਥਾ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ (ਅਸਲੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਤੋਂ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਆਧਾਰ ਹੈ) ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The slanderer of the Saint is empty inside,
ਜਿਉਸਾਸਬਿਨਾਮਿਰਤਕਕੀਲੋਥਾ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੁਰਦਾ ਲੋਥ ਹੈ।
like the corpse of a dead man, without the breath of life.
ਸੰਤਕੇਦੋਖੀਕੀਜੜਕਿਛੁਨਾਹਿ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦੇ ਨਿੰਦਕਾਂ ਦੀ (ਨੇਕ ਕਮਾਈ ਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ) ਕੋਈ ਪੱਕੀ ਨੀਂਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ,
The slanderer of the Saint has no heritage at all.
ਆਪਨਬੀਜਿਆਪੇਹੀਖਾਹਿ॥
ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਦੀ) ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੰਦਾ ਫਲ) ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
He himself must eat what he has planted.
ਸੰਤਕੇਦੋਖੀਕਉਅਵਰੁਨਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੁ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਦੀ ਵਾਦੀ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ,
The slanderer of the Saint cannot be saved by anyone else.
ਨਾਨਕਸੰਤਭਾਵੈਤਾਲਏਉਬਾਰਿ॥੫॥
(ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਸੰਤ ਚਾਹੇ ਤਾਂ (ਨਿੰਦਕ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਦੇ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
O Nanak, if it pleases the Saint, then even he may be saved. ||5||
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਇਉਬਿਲਲਾਇ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਇਉਂ ਵਿਲਕਦਾ ਹੈ,
The slanderer of the Saint bewails like this
ਜਿਉਜਲਬਿਹੂਨਮਛੁਲੀਤੜਫੜਾਇ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੱਛੀ ਤੜਫ਼ਦੀ ਹੈ।
like a fish, out of water, writhing in agony.
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਭੂਖਾਨਹੀਰਾਜੈ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਦੇ ਰੱਜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ,
The slanderer of the Saint is hungry and is never satisfied,
ਜਿਉਪਾਵਕੁਈਧਨਿਨਹੀਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅੱਗ ਬਾਲਣ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਜਦੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਦਾ ਸੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਈਰਖਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਈਰਖਾ ਘਟਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ)।
as fire is not satisfied by fuel.
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਛੁਟੈਇਕੇਲਾ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਭੀ ਇਕੱਲਾ ਛੁੱਟੜ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ),
The slanderer of the Saint is left all alone,
ਜਿਉਬੂਆੜੁਤਿਲੁਖੇਤਮਾਹਿਦੁਹੇਲਾ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਸੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਤਿਲ ਦਾ ਬੂਟਾ ਪੈਲੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
like the miserable barren sesame stalk abandoned in the field.
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਧਰਮਤੇਰਹਤ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਧਰਮੋਂ ਹੀਣ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The slanderer of the Saint is devoid of faith.
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਸਦਮਿਥਿਆਕਹਤ॥
ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
The slanderer of the Saint constantly lies.
ਕਿਰਤੁਨਿੰਦਕਕਾਧੁਰਿਹੀਪਇਆ॥
(ਪਰ) ਪਹਿਲੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਫਲ (-ਰੂਪ ਸੁਭਾਉ) ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ (ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਫੜਿਆ) ਤੁਰਿਆ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਸੋ, ਉਸ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕਰੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ?)
The fate of the slanderer is pre-ordained from the very beginning of time.
ਨਾਨਕਜੋਤਿਸੁਭਾਵੈਸੋਈਥਿਆ॥੬॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ) ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
O Nanak, whatever pleases God's Will comes to pass. ||6||
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਬਿਗੜਰੂਪੁਹੋਇਜਾਇ॥
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
The slanderer of the Saint becomes deformed.
ਸੰਤਕੇਦੋਖੀਕਉਦਰਗਹਮਿਲੈਸਜਾਇ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
The slanderer of the Saint receives his punishment in the Court of the Lord.
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਸਦਾਸਹਕਾਈਐ॥
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਸਦਾ ਆਤੁਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The slanderer of the Saint is eternally in limbo.
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਨਮਰੈਨਜੀਵਾਈਐ॥
ਨਾਹ ਉਹ ਜੀਊਂਦਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਮੋਇਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He does not die, but he does not live either.
ਸੰਤਕੇਦੋਖੀਕੀਪੁਜੈਨਆਸਾ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦੇ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਕਦੇ ਸਿਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ,
The hopes of the slanderer of the Saint are not fulfilled.
ਸੰਤਕਾਦੋਖੀਉਠਿਚਲੈਨਿਰਾਸਾ॥
ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਹੀ ਚੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ (ਭਲਾ, ਸੰਤਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮਿਲੇ?)।
The slanderer of the Saint departs disappointed.
ਸੰਤਕੈਦੋਖਿਨਤ੍ਰਿਸਟੈਕੋਇ॥
ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਦੀ) ਇਸ ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
Slandering the Saint, no one attains satisfaction.
ਜੈਸਾਭਾਵੈਤੈਸਾਕੋਈਹੋਇ॥
ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਨੀਅਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
As it pleases the Lord, so do people become;
ਪਇਆਕਿਰਤੁਨਮੇਟੈਕੋਇ॥
(ਬਚੇ ਭੀ ਕਿਵੇਂ?) ਪਿਛਲੀ ਕੀਤੀ (ਮੰਦ) ਕਮਾਈ ਦੇ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ (ਸੁਭਾਉ-ਰੂਪ) ਫਲ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
no one can erase their past actions.
ਨਾਨਕਜਾਨੈਸਚਾਸੋਇ॥੭॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਸ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹ ਸੱਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
O Nanak, the True Lord alone knows all. ||7||
ਸਭਘਟਤਿਸਕੇਓਹੁਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੁ॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ,
All hearts are His; He is the Creator.
ਸਦਾਸਦਾਤਿਸਕਉਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ॥
ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਓ।
Forever and ever, I bow to Him in reverence.
ਪ੍ਰਭਕੀਉਸਤਤਿਕਰਹੁਦਿਨੁਰਾਤਿ॥
ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਓ,
Praise God, day and night.
ਤਿਸਹਿਧਿਆਵਹੁਸਾਸਿਗਿਰਾਸਿ॥
ਦਮ-ਬ-ਦਮ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰੋ।
Meditate on Him with every breath and morsel of food.
ਸਭੁਕਛੁਵਰਤੈਤਿਸਕਾਕੀਆ॥
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਹਰੇਕ ਖੇਡ ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਵਰਤਾਈ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ,
Everything happens as He wills.
ਜੈਸਾਕਰੇਤੈਸਾਕੋਥੀਆ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
As He wills, so people become.
ਅਪਨਾਖੇਲੁਆਪਿਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੁ॥
(ਜਗਤ-ਰੂਪ) ਆਪਣੀ ਖੇਡ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਨ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈ।
He Himself is the play, and He Himself is the actor.
ਦੂਸਰਕਉਨੁਕਹੈਬੀਚਾਰੁ॥
ਕੌਣ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਲਾਹ ਦੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
Who else can speak or deliberate upon this?
