ਨ ਮੁੰਨੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੰਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਨ ਧੱਕੇ ਖਾਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਧੱਕੇ ਖੁਆ ਦਿੱਤੇ,
ਵਿਰਚੰਨਨਾਰੀਤਸੁਖਕੇਹੇ॥੨੩੩॥
(ਜੋ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਲਾ ਸੁਖ ਕਿਥੇ ॥੨੩੩॥
She deceives those who are undeceivable and makes the chaste ones licentious the house in which the woman has the apprehension, how can there be peace?233.

ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੈਕਈ ਨੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਵਰ ਮੰਗਣ ਲਈ ਹਠ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
In this way Kaikeyi persisted in her demand for boons from the king
ਅਤਿਆਤਰਕਿਆਕਹਿਸਕੈਬਿਧਯੋਕਾਮਕੇਤੀਰ॥੨੩੪॥
ਕਾਮ ਦੇ ਤੀਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਿੰਨਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਾਜਾ ਦਸ਼ਰਥ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਕਹਿ ਹੀ ਕੀ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੩੪॥
The king became greatly agitated but because of the attachment with the winsome wife and under the impact of the god of love (Kamdev), he could not say anything.234.

ਬਹੁਬਿਧਿਪਰਪਾਇਨਰਹੇਮੋਰੇਬਚਨਅਨੇਕ॥
ਬਹੁਤ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਣੀ ਦੇ) ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਾਰੀ ਬਚਨ ਨੂੰ ਟਾਲਣ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਯਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗਹਿਅਉਹਠਿਅਬਲਾਰਹੀਮਾਨਯੋਬਚਨਨਏਕ॥੨੩੫॥
ਪਰ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਹਠ ਨੂੰ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਗੱਲ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨੀ ॥੨੩੫॥
The king in many ways holding the feet of the queen to back out from his promise, but that woman, showing her weakness (of fair sex) persisted in her demand and did not accept any request of the king.235.
ਬਰਦਯੋਮੈਛੋਰੇਨਹੀਤੈਂਕਰਿਕੋਟਿਉਪਾਇ॥
(ਕੈਕਈ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ-) ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵਰ ਦਿਓ, ਮੈਂ ਛੱਡਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ (ਭਾਵੇਂ) ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਉਪਾ ਕਰੋ।
ਘਰਮੋਸੁਤਕਉਦੀਜੀਐਬਨਬਾਸੈਰਘੁਰਾਇ॥੨੩੬॥
(ਮੇਰੇ) ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਾਜ ਦਿਓ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਚੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਬਨਵਾਸ (ਦਿਓ) ॥੨੩੬॥
“I shall not leave you without getting the boons, though you may make millions of efforts. Give the kingdom to my son and exile Ram.”236.
ਭੂਪਧਰਨਿਬਿਨਬੁਧਿਗਿਰਯੋਸੁਨਤਬਚਨਤ੍ਰਿਯਕਾਨ॥
ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਰਾਜਾ ਬੇਸੁੱਧ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਿਆ,
ਜਿਮਮ੍ਰਿਗੇਸਬਨਕੇਬਿਖੈਬਧਯੋਬਧਕਰਿਬਾਨ॥੨੩੭॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਬਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਤੀਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਜਾਣ ਤੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਡਿੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੩੭॥
Hearing these words of his wife, the king became unconscious and fell down on the earth like a lion pierced by arrow in the forest.237.
ਤਰਫਰਾਤਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀਪਰਯੋਸੁਨਿਬਨਰਾਮਉਚਾਰ॥
ਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਬਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੇਜਣ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਰਾਜਾ) ਤੜਫਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਡਿੱਗਿਆ
ਪਲਕਪ੍ਰਾਨਤਯਾਗੇਤਜਤਮਧਿਸਫਰਿਸਰਬਾਰ॥੨੩੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਪਲਕ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਦੇਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲਦਿਆਂ ਮੱਛਲੀ (ਪ੍ਰਾਣ) ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨੩੮॥
Hearing about the exile or ram the king writhed and fell down on the earth like the pining of the fish out of water and breathing her last.238.
ਰਾਮਨਾਮਸ੍ਰਵਨਨਸੁਣਯੋਉਠਿਥਿਰਭਯੋਸੁਚੇਤ॥
(ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ) ਜਦੋਂ ਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਿਆ, ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉੱਠ ਬੈਠਾ,
ਜਨੁਰਣਸੁਭਟਗਿਰਯੋਉਠਯੋਗਹਿਅਸਨਿਡਰਸੁਚੇਤ॥੨੩੯॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਲੜਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਿੱਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਖੜਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਫੜਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ। ॥੨੩੯॥
Hearing again the name of Ram the king came to his senses and stood up like a warrior becoming unconscious and falling in war and standing up again holding his sword after becoming conscious.239.
ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਨਨ੍ਰਿਪਬਰਸਹੋਧਰਮਨਛੋਰਾਜਾਇ॥
ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਤਾਂ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਸਹਾਰ ਲਿਆ ਪਰ ਧਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਦੈਨਕਹੇਜੋਬਰਹੁਤੇਤਨਜੁਤਦਏਉਠਾਇ॥੨੪੦॥
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਵਰ ਦੇਣੇ ਕਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ, ਤਨ ਸਮੇਤ ਚੁੱਕਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੪੦॥
The king accepted death rather than abandonment of his Dharma and the boons which he had promised, he granted them and exiled Ram.240.

“Exile Ram and give the kingdom to Bharat
ਬਰਖਚਤਰਦਸਕੇਬਿਤੇਫਿਰਿਰਾਜਾਰਘੁਰਾਇ॥੨੪੧॥
ਚੌਦਾਂ ਬਰਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੀਤਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਰਾਮ ਚੰਦਰ ਫਿਰ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ॥੨੪੧॥
After fourteen year Ram will again become the king.”241.
ਕਹੀਬਸਿਸਟਸੁਧਾਰਕਰਿਸ੍ਰੀਰਘੁਬਰਸੋਜਾਇ॥
ਇਹ (ਗੱਲ) ਸੁਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਵਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਟ ਨੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਚੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕਹੀ
Vasishtha said the same thing to Ram in an improved way,
ਬਰਖਚਤੁਰਦਸਭਰਥਨ੍ਰਿਪਪੁਨਿਨ੍ਰਿਪਸ੍ਰੀਰਘੁਰਾਇ॥੨੪੨॥
ਕਿ ਚੌਦਾਂ ਸਾਲ ਭਰਥ ਰਾਜ ਕਰੇਗਾ, ਮਗਰੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ॥੨੪੨॥
That for fourteen years Bharat shall rule and after that you will be the king.242.
ਸੁਨਿਬਸਿਸਟਕੋਬਚਸ੍ਰਵਣਰਘੁਪਤਿਫਿਰੇਸਸੋਗ॥
'ਵਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਟ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਕੰਨੀ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ, ਰਾਮ ਚੰਦਰ ਸੋਗ ਨਾਲ (ਘਰ ਨੂੰ) ਮੁੜ ਆਏ।
Listening to the words of Vasishtha, Ram (Raghuvir) left with a sad heart,
ਉਤਦਸਰਥਤਨਕੋਤਜਯੋਸ੍ਰੀਰਘੁਬੀਰਬਿਯੋਗ॥੨੪੩॥
ਉਧਰ ਦਸ਼ਰਥ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਚੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਯੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਸਰੀਰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੨੪੩॥
And on this side the king. Not enduring the separation of Ram, breathed his last.243.
ਸੋਰਠਾ॥

ਗ੍ਰਹਿਆਵਤਰਘੁਰਾਇਸਭੁਧਨਦੀਯੋਲੁਟਾਇਕੈ॥
ਘਰ ਆਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਰਾਮ ਚੰਦਰ ਨੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਧਨ ਲੁਟਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ
On reaching his place Ram gave all his wealth in charity,
ਕਟਿਤਰਕਸੀਸੁਹਾਇਬੋਲਤਭੇਸੀਅਸੋਬਚਨ॥੨੪੪॥
ਅਤੇ (ਜਿਸ ਰਾਮ ਦੇ) ਲੱਕ ਨਾਲ ਭੱਥਾ ਸ਼ੋਭ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, (ਉਹ) ਸੀਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਬਚਨ ਕਹਿਣ ਲੱਗੇ ॥੨੪੪॥
And binding his quiver to his waist he said to Sita 244
ਸੁਨਿਸੀਅਸੁਜਸਸੁਜਾਨਰਹੌਕੌਸਲਿਆਤੀਰਤੁਮ॥
ਹੇ ਯਸ਼ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਜਾਨ (ਸੀਤਾ) ਸੁਣ, ਤੂੰ (ਮਾਤਾ) ਕੁਸ਼ਲਿਆ ਕੋਲ ਰਹਿ,
“O wise Sita! You stay with Kaushalya.
ਰਾਜਕਰਉਫਿਰਿਆਨਤੋਹਿਸਹਿਤਬਨਬਾਸਬਸਿ॥੨੪੫॥
(ਮੈਂ ਚੌਦਾਂ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ) ਬਨਵਾਸ ਕੱਟ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਆ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਹਿਤ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ ॥੨੪੫॥
“And I shall rule again alongwith you after exile.”245.
ਸੀਤਾਬਾਚਰਾਮਸੋਂ॥

(ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਾਂਗੀ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਵੀ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਪੈ ਜਾਵੇ।
“I cannot forsake the company of my beloved even if I have to undergo a great suffering.
ਤਨਕਨਮੋਰਉਅੰਗਿਅੰਗਿਤੇਹੋਇਅਨੰਗਕਿਨ॥੨੪੬॥
ਛਿਣ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਮੂੰਹ ('ਅੰਗ') ਨਹੀਂ ਮੋੜਾਂਗੀ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਸਰੀਰ 'ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਕਿਉਂ ਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਵਾਂ ॥੨੪੬॥
“For this, undoubtedly, if my limbs are chopped, I shall not turn back a little and shall not deem it and anguish.”246.

ਜਉਨਰਹਉਸਸੁਰਾਰਕ੍ਰਿਸੋਦਰਜਾਹਿਪਿਤਾਗ੍ਰਿਹਤੋਹਿਪਠੈਦਿਉ॥
ਹੇ ਪਤਲੇ ਲੱਕ ਵਾਲੀਏ! ਜੇ (ਤੂੰ ਇਥੋਂ) ਸਹੁਰੇ ਘਰ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਪਸੰਦ ਨ ਕਰੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਚਲੀ ਜਾ। (ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣੇ ਹੀ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
“O lady of slim waist! If you do not like to stay with your in-laws, then I shall send you to your father’s house,
ਨੈਕਸੇਭਾਨਨਤੇਹਮਕਉਜੋਈਠਾਟਕਹੋਸੋਈਗਾਠਗਿਠੈਦਿਉ॥
ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੁਖ ਤੋਂ ਥੋੜ੍ਹਾ ਜਿਹਾ (ਸੰਕੇਤ ਕਰ ਦੇ), ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਹੇਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ।
“And I shall make the arrangements that you like, there shall be no objection on my part
ਜੇਕਿਛੁਚਾਹਕਰੋਧਨਕੀਟੁਕਮੋਹਕਹੋਸਭਤੋਹਿਉਠੈਦਿਉ॥
ਜੇ ਧਨ ਦੀ ਕੁਝ ਚਾਹ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਜ਼ਰਾ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਕਹਿ, ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੁਕਵਾ ਦਿਆਂ।
“If you want to have some wealth, then tell me clearly, I shall give you wealth according to your wishes
ਕੇਤਕਅਉਧਕੋਰਾਜਸਲੋਚਨਰੰਕਕੋਲੰਕਨਿਸੰਕਲੁਟੈਦਿਉ॥੨੪੭॥
ਹੇ ਸੁਲੋਚਨੀ! ਅਯੁੱਧਿਆ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਕੀ ਹੈ, ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਕਹੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਨਿਸੰਗ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਲੰਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਕੰਗਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਲੁਟਵਾ ਦਿਆਂ ॥੨੪੭॥
“O lady of beautiful eyes! There is only a time factor. If you agree, I shall give in charity to the poor a city full of riches like the city of Lanka.247.
ਘੋਰਸੀਆਬਨਤੂੰਸੁਕੁਮਾਰਕਹੋਹਮਸੋਂਕਸਤੈਨਿਬਹੈਹੈ॥
ਹੇ ਸੀਤਾ! ਜੰਗਲ ਡਰਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਕੋਮਲ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਸ, ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਿਭੇਗੀ?
“O Sita! The forest life is full of troubles and you are a princess you may tell me, how will you carry on there?
ਗੁੰਜਤਸਿੰਘਡਕਾਰਤਕੋਲਭਯਾਨਕਭੀਲਲਖੈਭ੍ਰਮਐਹੈ॥
ਸ਼ੇਰ ਬੁਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੂਰ ਡਕਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਡਰੌਣੇ ਭੀਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਡਰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
“The lions roar there, there are dreadful Kauls, Bhils, seeing whom one is frightened.
ਸੁੰਕਤਸਾਪਬਕਾਰਤਬਾਘਭਕਾਰਤਭੂਤਮਹਾਦੁਖਪੈਹੈ॥
ਸੱਪ ਸ਼ੂਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਬਾਘ ਘੁਰਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਭੂਤ ਭਕਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਏਂਗੀ।
“The serpents hiss there, the tiger thunder and there are also extremely agonizing ghosts and fiends.
ਤੂੰਸੁਕੁਮਾਰਰਚੀਕਰਤਾਰਬਿਚਾਰਚਲੇਤੁਹਿਕਿਉਾਂਬਨਿਐਹੈ॥੨੪੮॥
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਕੋਮਲ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਕਿ (ਬਣ ਵੱਲ) ਜਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਬਣ ਆਏਗੀ ॥੨੪੮॥
“The Lord had made you a delicate one, think for a little while, why should you go to the forest?”248.
