ਚਿਤਿਚੌਕਰਹਿਯੋਸੁਭਿਦੇਖਿਸੁਤੰ॥
ਅਤੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਠਾਕ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੋਇਆ।
One day the king went to the school and seeing his son, he was startled.
ਜੋਪੜਿਯੋਦਿਜਤੇਸੁਨਤਾਹਿਰੜੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ) "ਸੁਣ, ਜੋ (ਤੂੰ) ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਤੋਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੁਣਾ।
ਨਿਰਭੈਸਿਸੁਨਾਮੁਗੁਪਾਲਪੜੋ॥੫॥
"ਬੱਚੇ ਨੇ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆ ॥੫॥
When the king asked, the child told whatever he had learnt and fearlessly began to read the Name of Lord-God.5.
ਸੁਨਿਨਾਮੁਗੁਪਾਲਰਿਸ੍ਰਯੋਅਸੁਰੰ॥
ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਦੈਂਤ ਨੂੰ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਆ ਗਿਆ।
ਬਿਨੁਮੋਹਿਸੁਕਉਣੁਭਜੋਦੁਸਰੰ॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ) ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
On hearing the Name of Lord-God, the demon became furious and said, “Who else is there except me on whom you are meditating?”
ਜੀਯਮਾਹਿਧਰੋਸਿਸੁਯਾਹਿਹਨੋ॥
(ਹਿਰਨਕਸ਼ਪ ਨੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕੀ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੜਕਿਉਭਗਵਾਨਕੋਨਾਮਭਨੋ॥੬॥
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! (ਤੂੰ) ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੬॥
He decided to kill this student and said, “O fool why are you repeating the name of Lord-God?”6.
ਜਲਅਉਰਥਲੰਇਕਬੀਰਮਨੰ॥
ਜਲ ਅਤੇ ਥਲ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਸੂਰਵੀਰ ਹਾਂ।
ਇਹਕਾਹਿਗੁਪਾਲਕੋਨਾਮੁਭਨੰ॥
ਇਹ ਕਿਸ ਲਈ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ।
“Only Hiranayakashipu is considered the mithty-one in water and on land , then why are you repeating the name of Lord-God”?
ਤਬਹੀਤਿਹਬਾਧਤਥੰਮਭਏ॥
ਤਦ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਥੰਮ ਨਾਲ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਸੁਨਿਸ੍ਰਵਨਨਦਾਨਵਬੈਨਧਏ॥੭॥
(ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ) ਬੋਲ ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਦੈਂਤ ਲੋਕ (ਹੁਕਮ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਨਾ ਲਈ) ਭਜ ਗਏ ॥੭॥
Then, as commanded by the king, the demons tied him with the column.7.
ਗਹਿਮੂੜਚਲੇਸਿਸੁਮਾਰਨਕੋ॥
ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਦੈਂਤ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਚਲੇ।
ਨਿਕਸ੍ਰਯੋਬਗੁਪਾਲਉਬਾਰਨਕੋ॥
ਤਦੋਂ (ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ) ਉਬਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
When those foolish persons advanced to kill this student, the Lord manifested Himself at the same time in order to protect His disciple.
ਚਕਚਉਧਰਹੇਜਨਦੇਖਿਸਬੈ॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ,
ਨਿਕਸ੍ਰਯੋਹਰਿਫਾਰਿਕਿਵਾਰਜਬੈ॥੮॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਹਰਿ (ਨਰਸਿੰਘ) ਕਿਵਾੜ ਫਾੜ ਕੇ ਨਿਕਲਿਆ ॥੮॥
Al those who saw the Lord at that time were astonished, the Lord had manifested Himself by tearing off the doors.8
ਲਖਿਦੇਵਦਿਵਾਰਸਬੈਥਹਰੇ॥
(ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ
ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿਚਰਾਚਰਹੂੰਹਿਹਿਰੇ॥
ਅਤੇ ਦੈਂਤ ('ਦਿਵਾਰ' ਦੇਵ-ਅਰਿ) ਕੰਬਣ ਲਗ ਗਏ, ਜੜ ਅਤੇ ਚੇਤਨ (ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
Seeing Him, all the gods and demons trembled and all the animate and inanimate objects became fearful in their bearts
ਗਰਜੇਨਰਸਿੰਘਨਰਾਤਕਰੰ॥
ਨਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਗਰਜਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ
ਦ੍ਰਿਗਰਤਕੀਏਮੁਖਸ੍ਰੋਣਭਰੰ॥੯॥
ਅੱਖਾਂ ਲਾਲ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਲਹੂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਕੇ ॥੯॥
The Lord in the form of Narsingh (man-lion), with red eyes and the mouth filled with blood, thundered dreadfully.9.
ਲਖਿਦਾਨਵਭਾਜਚਲੇਸਬਹੀ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਰਣ ਵਿਚ ਗਰਜਿਆ
ਗਰਜਿਯੋਨਰਸਿੰਘਰਣੰਜਬਹੀ॥
(ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੈਂਤ ਭਜ ਗਏ।
Seeing this and hearing the thunder of Narsingh all the demons fled
ਇਕਭੂਪਤਿਠਾਢਿਰਹਿਯੋਰਣਮੈ॥
ਇਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ (ਹਿਰਨਕਸ਼ਪ) ਹੀ
ਗਹਿਹਾਥਿਗਦਾਨਿਰਭੈਮਨਮੈ॥੧੦॥
ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਗਦਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਨਿਡਰ ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਰਣਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਡਟਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ ॥੧੦॥
Only the Emperor, fearlessly holding his mace in his hand, stood firmly in that battlefield.10.
ਲਰਜੇਸਬਸੂਰਨ੍ਰਿਪੰਗਰਜੇ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਰਾਜੇ (ਹਿਰਨਕਸ਼ਪ) ਨੇ ਲਲਕਾਰਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ
ਸਮੁਹਾਤਭਏਭਟਕੇਹਰਿਕੇ॥
ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਕੰਬਣ ਲਗ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਹੋਏ।
When the Emperor roared loudly, then all the brave warriors trembled and all those warriors came forward in groups before that lion.
ਜੁਗਏਸਮੁਹੇਛਿਤਤੈਪਟਕੇ॥
ਜੋ ਵੀ ਜੰਗ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਏ,
ਰਣਿਭੈਰਣਧੀਰਬਟਾਨਟਕੇ॥੧੧॥
ਉਹ ਨਟ ਦੇ ਵੱਟੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਪਟਕੇ ਗਏ ॥੧੧॥
All those who went in front of Narsingh, He caught hold of all those warriors like a juggler and knocked them down of the ground.11.
ਬਬਕੇਰਣਧੀਰਸੁਬੀਰਘਣੇ॥
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਜੰਗਜੂ ਸੂਰਵੀਰ ਲਲਕਾਰਦੇ ਸਨ
ਰਹਿਗੇਮਨੋਕਿੰਸਕਸ੍ਰੋਣਸਣੇ॥
ਅਤੇ ਲਹੂ ਦੇ ਭਿਜੇ (ਇੰਜ ਖੜੋਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ) ਮਾਨੋ ਕੇਸੂ ਦੇ ਫੁਲ ਹੋਣ।
The warriors shouted loudly at one another and saturated with blood began to fall.
ਉਮਗੇਚਹੂੰਓਰਨਤੇਰਿਪੁਯੌ॥
ਚੌਹਾਂ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੈਰੀ ਇੰਜ ਉਲਰੇ
ਬਰਸਾਤਿਬਹਾਰਨਅਭ੍ਰਨਜਿਯੋ॥੧੨॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਵਰਖਾ ਦੀ ਰੁਤ ਵਿਚ ਬਦਲ ਘਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੨॥
The enemies advanced from all the four sides with such intensity like the clouds in the rainy season.12.
ਬਰਖੈਸਰਸੁਧਸਿਲਾਸਿਤਿਯੰ॥
ਦਸਾਂ ਦਿਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਯੋਧੇ ਉਮਡੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਲਾ (ਉਤੇ ਰਗੜ ਕੇ)
ਉਮਡੇਬਰਬੀਰਦਸੋਦਿਸਿਯੰ॥
ਸਫ਼ੈਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਤੀਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਰਖਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
Advancing from all the ten directions, the warriors began to shower the arrows and stones
ਚਮਕੰਤਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣਸੁਬਾਣਜੁਧੰ॥
ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿਚ ਤੀਰ ਅਤੇ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਚਮਕਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
ਫਹਰੰਤਧੁਜਾਜਨੁਬੀਰਕ੍ਰੁਧੰ॥੧੩॥
ਝੁਲਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਝੰਡੇ (ਇੰਜ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ) ਮਾਨੋ ਯੁੱਧ-ਵੀਰ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ (ਨਾਲ ਝੁਲ ਰਹੇ ਹੋਣ) ॥੧੩॥
The swords and arrows glistened in the war-field and the brave fighters began to flutter their flags.13.
ਹਹਰੰਤਹਠੀਬਰਖੰਤਸਰੰ॥
ਹਠੀ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਹਕਾਰਦੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਤੀਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਰਖਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ,
The persistent warriors with loud shouts are showering a volley of arrows in this way,
ਜਨੁਸਾਵਨਮੇਘਬੁਠਿਯੋਦੁਸਰੰ॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਸਾਵਣ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਪਾਸੇ ਮੀਂਹ ਪੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੋਵੇ।
As if it is the second cloudburst in the mont of Swan
ਫਰਹੰਤਧੁਜਾਹਹਰੰਤਹਯੰ॥
ਝੰਡੇ ਝੂਲਦੇ ਸਨ, ਘੋੜੇ ਹਿਣਕਦੇ ਸਨ। (ਇਸ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ)
The flags are fluttering and the horses are neighing
ਉਪਜਿਯੋਜੀਅਦਾਨਵਰਾਇਭਯੰ॥੧੪॥
ਦੈਂਤ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਭੈ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੧੪॥
And seeing all this scene, the heart of the demon-king was filled with fear.14.
ਹਿਹਨਾਤਹਯੰਗਰਜੰਤਗਜੰ॥
ਘੋੜੇ ਹਿਣਕਦੇ ਸਨ, ਹਾਥੀ ਚਿੰਘਾੜਦੇ ਸਨ,
The horses are neighing and the elephants are roaring
ਭਟਬਾਹਕਟੀਜਨੁਇੰਦ੍ਰਧੁਜੰ॥
ਯੋਧਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਟੀਆਂ ਬਾਂਹਵਾਂ (ਇੰਜ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ) ਮਾਨੋ ਇੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਧੁਜਾ ਹੋਵੇ।
The chopped long arms of the warriors look like the flag of Indra
ਤਰਫੰਤਭਟੰਗਰਜੰਗਜੰ॥
ਸੂਰਮੇ ਤੜਪਦੇ ਸਨ, ਹਾਥੀ ਗਜਦੇ ਸਨ
The warriors are writhing and the elephants are roaring in such a way,
ਸੁਨਕੈਧੁਨਿਸਾਵਣਮੇਘਲਜੰ॥੧੫॥
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼) ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸਾਵਣ ਦੇ ਬਦਲ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੧੫॥
That the clouds of the month of Sawan are feeling shy.15.
ਬਿਚਲ੍ਰਯੋਪਗਦ੍ਵੈਕੁਫਿਰਿਯੋਪੁਨਿਜਿਯੋ॥
(ਹਿਰਨਕਸ਼ਪ) ਵਿਚਲਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਦੋ ਹੀ ਕਦਮ ਹਟਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਫਿਰ ਮੁੜਿਆ, ਜਿਵੇਂ-
As soon as the horse of Hiranayakashipu turned a little, he himself deviated and retraced two steps
ਕਰਿਪੁੰਛਲਗੇਅਹਿਕ੍ਰੁਧਤਜਿਯੋ॥
ਖਿਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਸੱਪ ਦੀ ਪੂਛਲ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਲਗਿਆਂ (ਉਹ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
But still he was infuriated in the manner of the snake who gets infuriated when its tail is crushed by a foot
ਰਣਰੰਗਸਮੈਮੁਖਯੋਚਮਕ੍ਯੋ॥
ਯੁੱਧ ਵੇਲੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਮੂੰਹ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਚਮਕਿਆ,
His face was shining in the battlefield,
ਲਖਿਸੂਰਸਰੋਰਹੁਸੋਦਮਕ੍ਰਯੋ॥੧੬॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਕਮਲ ਲਿਸ਼ਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥
Like the blossoming of the lotus on seeing the sun.16.
ਰਣਰੰਗਤੁਰੰਗਨਐਸਭਯੋ॥
ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਘੋੜਿਆ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ (ਹੁਲੜ) ਮਚਾਇਆ
