ਨੱਚੀਕਲਸਰੋਸਰੀਕਲਿਨਾਰਦਿਡਉਰੂਵਾਇਆ॥
(ਹਰ ਇਕ ਦੇ) ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਕਲਹ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਸਵਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਲ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਰਦ ਨੇ ਡਉਰੂ ਵਜਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
The discord danced over all the heads and Kal and Narad sounded their tabor.
ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁਉਤਾਰਨਦੇਵਤਿਆਂਮਹਿਖਾਸੁਰਸੁੰਭਉਪਾਇਆ॥
ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਉਤਾਰਨ ਲਈ (ਪਰਮ-ਸੱਤਾ ਨੇ) ਮਹਿਖਾਸੁਰ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੁੰਭ (ਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Mahishasura and Sumbh were created for removing the pride of the gods.
ਜੀਤਿਲਏਤਿਨਦੇਵਤੇਤਿਹਲੋਕੀਰਾਜੁਕਮਾਇਆ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਤ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਰਾਜ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
They conquered the gods and ruled over the three worlds.
ਵੱਡਾਬੀਰੁਅਖਾਇਕੈਸਿਰਉਪਰਿਛਤ੍ਰੁਫਿਰਾਇਆ॥
(ਮਹਿਖਾਸੁਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਵੱਡਾ ਸੂਰਵੀਰ ਅਖਵਾ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਛਤਰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ।
He was called a great hero and had a canopy moving over his head.
ਦਿੱਤਾਇੰਦ੍ਰੁਨਿਕਾਲਕੈਤਿਨਿਗਿਰਕੈਲਾਸੁਤਕਾਇਆ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਇੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ (ਇੰਦਰਪੁਰੀ ਤੋਂ) ਕਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਲਈ) ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਪਰਬਤ (ਸਥਿਤ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੁਰਗਾ) ਵਲ ਵੇਖਣ ਲਗਾ।
Indra was turned out of his kingdom and he looked towards the Kailash mountain.
ਡਰਿਕੈਹੱਥੋਦਾਨਵੀਂਦਿਲਅੰਦਰਿਤ੍ਰਾਸੁਵਧਾਇਆ॥
ਦੈਂਤਾ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਡਰ ਕੇ (ਇੰਦਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦਾ) ਡਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਧਾ ਲਿਆ।
Frightened by the demons, the element of fear grew enormously in his heart;
ਪਾਸਿਦੁਰਗਾਦੇਇੰਦ੍ਰੁਆਇਆ॥੩॥
(ਫਰਿਆਦ ਅਥਵਾ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਿਮਿਤ) ਇੰਦਰ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਕੋਲ ਆਇਆ ॥੩॥
He came, therefore to Durga.3.
ਪਉੜੀ॥
ਇਕਦਿਹਾੜੇਨਾਵਣਆਈਦੁਰਗਸ਼ਾਹ॥
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ (ਜਦੋਂ) ਦੁਰਗਾ ਦੇਵੀ ਨਹਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਆਈ,
One day Durga came for a bath.
ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਬਿਰਥਾਸੁਣਾਈਅਪਣੇਹਾਲਦੀ॥
(ਤਦੋਂ) ਇੰਦਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਾਲ ਦੀ (ਦੁਖ ਭਰੀ) ਵਿਥਿਆ ਸੁਣਾਈ।
Indra related to her the story agony:
ਛੀਨਲਈਠਕੁਰਾਈਸਾਤੇਦਾਨਵੀਂ॥
(ਕਿ) ਸਾਡੇ ਤੋਂ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਰਾਜ ਖੋਹ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
"The demons have seized from us our kingdom.
ਲੋਕੀਂਤਿਹੀਂਫਿਰਾਈਦੋਹੀਆਪਣੀ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਦੁਹਾਈ ਫਿਰਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
They have proclaimed their authority over all the three worlds.
ਬੈਠੇਵਾਇਵਧਾਈਤੇਅਮਰਾਵਤੀ॥
(ਉਹ) ਅਮਰਾਵਤੀ (ਸੁਅਰਗਪੁਰੀ) ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠੇ (ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ) ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
They have played musical instruments in their rejoicings in Amaravati, the city of gods.
ਦਿੱਤੇਦੇਵਭਜਾਈਸਭਨਾਰਾਕਸਾਂ॥
ਰਾਖਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ (ਅਮਰਾਪੁਰੀ ਤੋਂ) ਭਜਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
All the demons have caused the flight of the gods.
ਕਿਨੇਨਜਿੱਤਾਜਾਈਮਹਿਖੇਦੈਤਨੋ॥
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਮਹਿਖਾਸੁਰ ਜਿਤਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਿਆ।
None hath gone and conquered Mahikha, the demon.
ਤੇਰੀਸਾਮਤਕਾਈਦੇਵੀਦੁਰਗਸ਼ਾਹ॥੪॥
ਹੇ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਦੇਵੀ! ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ (ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥
O goddess Durga, I have come under Thy refuge."4.
ਪਉੜੀ॥
ਦੁਰਗਾਬੈਣਸੁਣੰਦੀਹੱਸੀਹੜਹੜਾਇ॥
ਦੁਰਗਾ (ਇੰਦਰ ਦੇ) ਬੋਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਖਿੜ-ਖਿੜ ਹਸਣ ਲਗ ਪਈ।
Listening to these words (of Indra), Durga laughed heartily.
ਓਹੀਸੀਹੁਮੰਗਾਇਆਰਾਕਸਭੱਖਣਾ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਰਾਖਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਮੰਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ
She sent for that lion, who was she devourer of demons.
ਚਿੰਤਾਕਰਹੁਨਕਾਈਦੇਵਾਨੂੰਆਖਿਆ॥
ਅਤੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ (ਤੁਸੀਂ) ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ।
She said to gods, "Do not worry mother any more."
ਰੋਹਹੋਈਮਹਾਮਾਈਰਾਕਸ਼ਮਾਰਣੇ॥੫॥
ਦੁਰਗਾ ਦੇਵੀ ਰਾਖਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ॥੫॥
For killing the demons, the great mother exhibited great fury.5.
ਦੋਹਰਾ॥
Dohra.
ਰਾਕਸ਼ਆਏਰੋਹਲੇਖੇਤਭਿੜਨਕੈਚਾਇ॥
ਕ੍ਰੋਧਵਾਨ ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਯੁੱਧ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਚਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਗਏ।
The infuriated demons came with the desire of fighting in the battlefield.
ਲਸ਼ਕਨਤੇਗਾਂਬਰਛੀਆਂਸੂਰਜੁਨਦਰਿਨਪਾਇ॥੬॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਫੌਜ ਦੀਆਂ) ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਰਛੀਆਂ (ਇਤਨੀਆਂ) ਲਿਸ਼ਕ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਸੂਰਜ ਵੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਆਉਂਦਾ ॥੬॥
The swords and daggers glisten with such brilliance that the sun cannot be seen.6.

ਦੁਹਾਂਕੰਧਾਰਾਮੁਹਜੁੜੇਢੋਲਸੰਖਨਗਾਰੇਬੱਜੇ॥
ਦੋਹਾਂ (ਧਿਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੂਹਰਲੀਆਂ) ਕਤਾਰਾਂ ਆਹਮਣੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਡੱਟ ਗਈਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਢੋਲ, ਸੰਖ ਤੇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ਵਜਣ ਲਗੇ।
Both the armies faced each other and the drums, conches and trumpets sounded.
