ਮੇਰੇਮਨਨਾਮੁਹਿਰਦੈਧਾਰਿ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖ।
O my mind, enshrine the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within your heart.
ਕਰਿਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਮਨੁਤਨੁਲਾਇਹਰਿਸਿਉਅਵਰਸਗਲਵਿਸਾਰਿ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਮਨ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਤਨ ਲਾ ਕੇ (ਤਨੋਂ ਮਨੋਂ) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ (ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ) ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Love the Lord, and commit your mind and body to Him; forget everything else. ||1||Pause||
ਜੀਉਮਨੁਤਨੁਪ੍ਰਾਣਪ੍ਰਭਕੇਤੂਆਪਨਆਪੁਨਿਵਾਰਿ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ, ਇਹ ਮਨ, ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ, ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ-(ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ (ਤੂੰ ਮਾਣ ਕਿਸ ਗੱਲ ਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ?) ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ।
Soul, mind, body and breath of life belong to God; eliminate your self-conceit.
ਗੋਵਿਦਭਜੁਸਭਿਸੁਆਰਥਪੂਰੇਨਾਨਕਕਬਹੁਨਹਾਰਿ॥੨॥੪॥੨੭॥
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਭੀ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਹੋਣਗੀਆਂ, ਤੇ, (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਭੀ) ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਰੇਂਗਾ ॥੨॥੪॥੨੭॥
Meditate, vibrate on the Lord of the Universe, and all your desires shall be fulfilled; O Nanak, you shall never be defeated. ||2||4||27||
ਮਾਰੂਮਹਲਾ੫॥
Maaroo, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਤਜਿਆਪੁਬਿਨਸੀਤਾਪੁਰੇਣਸਾਧੂਥੀਉ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਬਣ ਜਾ, ਤੇਰਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
Renounce your self-conceit, and the fever shall depart; become the dust of the feet of the Holy.
ਤਿਸਹਿਪਰਾਪਤਿਨਾਮੁਤੇਰਾਕਰਿਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਜਿਸੁਦੀਉ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥
He alone receives Your Name, Lord, whom You bless with Your Mercy. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇਮਨਨਾਮੁਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁਪੀਉ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪੀਆ ਕਰ।
O my mind, drink in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਆਨਸਾਦਬਿਸਾਰਿਹੋਛੇਅਮਰੁਜੁਗੁਜੁਗੁਜੀਉ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
(ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ (ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਚਸਕੇ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਅਟੱਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Abandon other bland, insipid tastes; become immortal, and live throughout the ages. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਮੁਇਕਰਸਰੰਗਨਾਮਾਨਾਮਿਲਾਗੀਲੀਉ॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਹਨ), ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਹਨ,
Savor the essence of the One and only Naam; love the Naam, focus and attune yourself to the Naam.
ਮੀਤੁਸਾਜਨੁਸਖਾਬੰਧਪੁਹਰਿਏਕੁਨਾਨਕਕੀਉ॥੨॥੫॥੨੮॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੱਜਣ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਤੇ ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਲਿਵ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੫॥੨੮॥
Nanak has made the One Lord his only friend, companion and relative. ||2||5||28||
ਮਾਰੂਮਹਲਾ੫॥
Maaroo, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿਮਾਤਾਉਦਰਿਰਾਖੈਲਗਨਿਦੇਤਨਸੇਕ॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪੇਟ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਦਾ) ਸੇਕ ਲੱਗਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ।
He nourishes and preserves mortals in the womb of the mother, so that the fiery heat does not hurt them.
ਸੋਈਸੁਆਮੀਈਹਾਰਾਖੈਬੂਝੁਬੁਧਿਬਿਬੇਕ॥੧॥
ਉਹੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰਖ ਦੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ (ਸੱਚਾਈ) ਸਮਝ ਲੈ ॥੧॥
That Lord and Master protects us here. Understand this in your mind. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇਮਨਨਾਮਕੀਕਰਿਟੇਕ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ।
O my mind, take the Support of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਤਿਸਹਿਬੂਝੁਜਿਨਿਤੂਕੀਆਪ੍ਰਭੁਕਰਣਕਾਰਣਏਕ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਸਹਾਰਾ) ਸਮਝ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Understand the One who created you; the One God is the Cause of causes. ||1||Pause||
ਚੇਤਿਮਨਮਹਿਤਜਿਸਿਆਣਪਛੋਡਿਸਗਲੇਭੇਖ॥
ਚਤੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ (ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ (ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਪਹਿਰਾਵੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ।
Remember the One Lord in your mind, renounce your clever tricks, and give up all your religious robes.
ਸਿਮਰਿਹਰਿਹਰਿਸਦਾਨਾਨਕਤਰੇਕਈਅਨੇਕ॥੨॥੬॥੨੯॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੀਵ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਦੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥੬॥੨੯॥
Meditating in remembrance forever on the Lord, Har, Har, O Nanak, countless beings have been saved. ||2||6||29||
ਮਾਰੂਮਹਲਾ੫॥
Maaroo, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਪਤਿਤਪਾਵਨਨਾਮੁਜਾਕੋਅਨਾਥਕੋਹੈਨਾਥੁ॥
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਨਿਖਸਮਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਹੈ,
His Name is the Purifier of sinners; He is the Master of the masterless.
ਮਹਾਭਉਜਲਮਾਹਿਤੁਲਹੋਜਾਕੋਲਿਖਿਓਮਾਥ॥੧॥
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਸ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ। (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ (ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ) ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
In the vast and terrifying world-ocean, he is the raft for those who have such destiny inscribed on their foreheads. ||1||
ਡੂਬੇਨਾਮਬਿਨੁਘਨਸਾਥ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪੂਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੂਰ (ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ,
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, huge numbers of companions have drowned.
ਕਰਣਕਾਰਣੁਚਿਤਿਨਆਵੈਦੇਕਰਿਰਾਖੈਹਾਥ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Even if someone does not remember the Lord, the Cause of causes, still, the Lord reaches out with His hand, and saves him. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਣਉਚਾਰਣਹਰਿਨਾਮਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਪਾਥ॥
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਉੱਚਾਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ-ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਸਤਾ।
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and take the Path of the Ambrosial Name of the Lord.
ਕਰਹੁਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਮੁਰਾਰਿਮਾਧਉਸੁਣਿਨਾਨਕਜੀਵੈਗਾਥ॥੨॥੭॥੩੦॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹੇ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ! ਹੇ ਮਾਧੋ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ (ਤਾ ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ ॥੨॥੭॥੩੦॥
Shower me with Your Mercy, O Lord; listening to Your sermon, Nanak lives. ||2||7||30||
ਮਾਰੂਅੰਜੁਲੀਮਹਲਾ੫ਘਰੁ੭॥
ਰਾਗ ਮਾਰੂ, ਘਰ ੭ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ 'ਅੰਜੁਲੀ'।
Maaroo, Anjulee ~ With Hands Cupped In Prayer, Fifth Mahalaa, Seventh House:
ੴਸਤਿਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਸੰਜੋਗੁਵਿਜੋਗੁਧੁਰਹੁਹੀਹੂਆ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Union and separation are ordained by the Primal Lord God.
ਪੰਚਧਾਤੁਕਰਿਪੁਤਲਾਕੀਆ॥
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਪੰਜ ਤੱਤ (ਇਕੱਠੇ) ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The puppet is made from the five elements.
ਸਾਹੈਕੈਫੁਰਮਾਇਅੜੈਜੀਦੇਹੀਵਿਚਿਜੀਉਆਇਪਇਆ॥੧॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
By the Command of the Dear Lord King, the soul came and entered into the body. ||1||
ਜਿਥੈਅਗਨਿਭਖੈਭੜਹਾਰੇ॥
ਜਿੱਥੇ (ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਪੇਟ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਬੜੀ ਭਖਦੀ ਹੈ,
In that place, where the fire rages like an oven,
ਊਰਧਮੁਖਮਹਾਗੁਬਾਰੇ॥
ਉਸ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵ ਉਲਟੇ-ਮੂੰਹ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
in that darkness where the body lies face down
ਸਾਸਿਸਾਸਿਸਮਾਲੇਸੋਈਓਥੈਖਸਮਿਛਡਾਇਲਇਆ॥੨॥
ਜੀਵ (ਉਥੇ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਇਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
- there, one remembers his Lord and Master with each and every breath, and then he is rescued. ||2||
ਵਿਚਹੁਗਰਭੈਨਿਕਲਿਆਇਆ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Then, one comes out from within the womb,
ਖਸਮੁਵਿਸਾਰਿਦੁਨੀਚਿਤੁਲਾਇਆ॥
ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
and forgetting his Lord and Master, he attaches his consciousness to the world.
ਆਵੈਜਾਇਭਵਾਈਐਜੋਨੀਰਹਣੁਨਕਿਤਹੀਥਾਇਭਇਆ॥੩॥
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰਨ ਕਰਕੇ) ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵ) ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਇੱਕ ਥਾਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ॥੩॥
He comes and goes, and wanders in reincarnation; he cannot remain anywhere. ||3||
ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਿਰਖਿਲਇਅਨੁਆਪੇ॥
ਉਸ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਏ ਹਨ।
The Merciful Lord Himself emancipates.
ਜੀਅਜੰਤਸਭਿਤਿਸਕੇਥਾਪੇ॥
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦੇ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
He created and established all beings and creatures.
ਜਨਮੁਪਦਾਰਥੁਜਿਣਿਚਲਿਆਨਾਨਕਆਇਆਸੋਪਰਵਾਣੁਥਿਆ॥੪॥੧॥੩੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਇਸ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਜਨਮ (ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ) ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਕੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥੩੧॥
Those who depart after having been victorious in this priceless human life - O Nanak, their coming into the world is approved. ||4||1||31||
