Raja Chhattar Ket’s wife was so well known that she was famous in all the ten regions.(2)

ਛਤ੍ਰਮੰਜਰੀਤਾਕੀਪ੍ਯਾਰੀ॥
ਛਤ੍ਰ ਮੰਜਰੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਸੀ।
छत्र मंजरी ता की प्यारी ॥
ਅੰਗਉਤੰਗਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਤੇਭਾਰੀ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ ਰਾਜੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਉਚੇ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰੇ ਸਨ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਉਹ ਰਾਜੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਅਧਿਕ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸੀ)।
Chhattar Manjri was so loveable that her features were much more attractive than the Raja’s.
अंग उतंग न्रिपति ते भारी ॥
ਬਹੁਤਜਤਨਆਗਮਕੋਕਰੈ॥
ਉਹ ਭਵਿਸ਼ ਬਾਰੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਯਤਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਸੀ

बहुत जतन आगम को करै ॥
ਕੈਸੇਰਾਜਹਮਾਰੋਸਰੈ॥੩॥
ਕਿ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਸਾਡਾ ਰਾਜ ਸੰਵਰ ਜਾਏ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਉੱਨਤੀ ਕਰੇ) ॥੩॥
She always pondered over, how their rule could remain dynamic for ever,(3)
कैसे राज हमारो सरै ॥३॥
ਕੰਨ੍ਯਾਹ੍ਵੈਤਾਕੇਮਰਿਜਾਹੀ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਜਨਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ
She always pondered over, how their rule could remain dynamic for ever,(3)
कंन्या ह्वै ता के मरि जाही ॥
ਪੂਤਆਨਿਪ੍ਰਗਟੈਕੋਊਨਾਹੀ॥
ਅਤੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਕੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਹੋਇਆ।
Because her female issues would not survive, and had no luck of a son.
पूत आनि प्रगटै कोऊ नाही ॥
ਤ੍ਰਿਯਕੌਸੋਕਅਧਿਕਜਿਯਭਾਰੋ॥
(ਉਸ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਇਹੀ) ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਦੁਖ ਸੀ।
त्रिय कौ सोक अधिक जिय भारो ॥
ਚਰਿਤਏਕਤਿਯਚਿਤਬਿਚਾਰੋ॥੪॥
(ਉਸ) ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆ ॥੪॥

ਸੁਤਬਿਨੁਤ੍ਰਿਯਚਿਤਚਿਤਬਿਚਾਰੀ॥

सुत बिनु त्रिय चित चित बिचारी ॥
ਕ੍ਯੋਨਦੈਵਗਤਿਕਰੀਹਮਾਰੀ॥
ਕਿ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਡੀ ਗਤੀ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਕਰੇਗਾ।
She contemplated in her mind, ‘Not even God would approve me without a son,
क्यो न दैव गति करी हमारी ॥
ਦਿਜਮੁਰਿਹਾਥਦਾਨਨਹਿਲੇਹੀ॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਦਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈਣਗੇ
She contemplated in her mind, ‘Not even God would approve me without a son,
दिज मुरि हाथ दान नहि लेही ॥
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਕੇਲੋਗਉਰਾਭੇਦੇਹੀ॥੫॥
ਅਤੇ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਲਾਂਭੇ ਦੇਣਗੇ ॥੫॥
‘And Brahmins (priests) would not accept alms through my hands and populace would taunt me.(5)
ग्रिह के लोग उराभे देही ॥५॥
ਤਾਤੇਦੁਰਾਚਾਰਕਛੁਕਰਿਯੈ॥
ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕੁਝ ਦੁਰਾਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਪੁੱਤਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰੀਏ)
‘And Brahmins (priests) would not accept alms through my hands and populace would taunt me.(5)
ता ते दुराचार कछु करियै ॥
ਪੁਤ੍ਰਰਾਵਕੋਬਦਨਉਚਰਿਯੈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੋਂ ਰਾਜੇ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਕਹਿ ਦੇਈਏ।
‘I should undertake some unworthy action and provide a son to the Raja.
पुत्र राव को बदन उचरियै ॥
ਏਕਪੁਤ੍ਰਲੀਜੈਉਪਜਾਈ॥
ਇਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਲਈਏ।
एक पुत्र लीजै उपजाई ॥
ਨ੍ਰਿਪਕੋਕਵਨਨਿਰਖਿਹੈਆਈ॥੬॥
(ਇਹ) ਰਾਜੇ ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੌਣ ਆ ਕੇ ਵੇਖਣ ਲਗੇਗਾ ॥੬॥
‘I must manage to get a boy when the Raja comes to visit me,’(6)
न्रिप को कवन निरखि है आई ॥६॥
ਸਵਤਿਏਕਤਿਹਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਬੁਲਾਈ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਸੌਂਕਣ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਈ
सवति एक तिह न्रिपति बुलाई ॥
ਇਹਬ੍ਯਾਹਹੁਇਹਜਗਤਉਡਾਈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਆਹਣ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਧੁਮਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
The Raja, on the other hand, had retained a kept-woman, and spread the rum our of his second marriage.
इह ब्याहहु इह जगत उडाई ॥
ਯੌਸੁਨਿਨਾਰਿਅਧਿਕਅਕੁਲਾਈ॥
ਇਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਿਆਕੁਲ ਹੋਈ
The Raja, on the other hand, had retained a kept-woman, and spread the rum our of his second marriage.
यौ सुनि नारि अधिक अकुलाई ॥
ਸੇਵਕਾਨਸੌਦਰਬੁਲੁਟਾਈ॥੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਧਨ ਲੁਟਾਉਣ ਲਗੀ ॥੭॥
The Rani was very much distressed and started to splurge the money out on her maids.(7)
सेवकान सौ दरबु लुटाई ॥७॥

ਸਵਤਿਤ੍ਰਾਸਰਾਨੀਅਧਿਕਲੋਗਨਦਰਬੁਲੁਟਾਇ॥
ਸੌਂਕਣ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਧਨ ਲੁਟਾਉਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Petrified of the co-wife, she started to squander wealth among people,
सवति त्रास रानी अधिक लोगन दरबु लुटाइ ॥
ਤੇਵਾਕੀਸਵਤਿਹਚਹੈਸਕੈਨਮੂਰਖਪਾਇ॥੮॥
(ਪਰ) ਉਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਸਮਝ ਨਾ ਸਕੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਕਣ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੮॥
But people still liked her co-wife and this fool could not acquiesce.(8)
ते वा की सवतिह चहै सकै न मूरख पाइ ॥८॥

ਲੋਗਸਵਤਿਤਾਕੀਕਹਚਹੈ॥
ਲੋਕੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਕਣ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ।
लोग सवति ता की कह चहै ॥
ਵਾਕੀਉਸਤਤਿਨ੍ਰਿਪਸੋਕਹੈ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤ ਰਾਜੇ ਪਾਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ।

वा की उसतति न्रिप सो कहै ॥
ਕਹੈਜੁਇਹਪ੍ਰਭੂਬਰੈਸੁਮਾਰੋ॥
ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜਾ ਵਿਆਹ ਲਏ (ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਰ ਦੇਵੇ।

कहै जु इह प्रभू बरै सु मारो ॥
ਅਧਿਕਟੂਕਰੋਚਲੈਹਮਾਰੋ॥੯॥
(ਤਾਂ ਜੋ) ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਡਾ ਅੰਨ ਪਾਣੀ ਚਲਦਾ ਰਹੇ ॥੯॥
She wanted Raja to eradicate her so that she could live happily.(9)
अधिक टूकरो चलै हमारो ॥९॥
ਸਵਤਿਤ੍ਰਾਸਅਤਿਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿਦਿਖਾਵੈ॥
(ਇਕ ਸੇਵਕਾ) ਉਸ ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੌਂਕਣ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਡਰ ਦਿਖਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ
सवति त्रास अति त्रियहि दिखावै ॥
ਤਾਕੋਮੂੰਡਮੂੰਡਕਰਿਖਾਵੈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੁਟ ਲੁਟ ਕੇ ਖਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ।
The dread of the co-wife always haunted her, and she always craved to annihilate her,
ता को मूंड मूंड करि खावै ॥
ਤਾਕਹਦਰਬੁਨਦੇਖਨਦੇਹੀ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਧਨ ਦੇਖਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਦਿੰਦੀ,
The dread of the co-wife always haunted her, and she always craved to annihilate her,
ता कह दरबु न देखन देही ॥
ਲੂਟਿਕੂਟਿਬਾਹਰਤੇਲੇਹੀ॥੧੦॥
ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਹੀ ਲੁਟ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਸੀ ॥੧੦॥
She would not let money pass to her and plunder it when it was on its way to her (co-wife).(10)
लूटि कूटि बाहर ते लेही ॥१०॥
ਪੁਨਿਤਿਹਮਿਲਿਹਿਸਵਤਿਸੌਜਾਈ॥
ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਸੌਂਕਣ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਮਿਲਦੀ।
She would not let money pass to her and plunder it when it was on its way to her (co-wife).(10)
पुनि तिह मिलिहि सवति सौ जाई ॥
ਭਾਤਿਭਾਤਿਤਿਨਕਰਹਿਬਡਾਈ॥
ਭਾਂਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰਦੀ ਸੀ
But she used to meet the co-wife as well and often praised her saying,
भाति भाति तिन करहि बडाई ॥
ਤੁਮਕਹਬਰਿਹੈਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਹਮਾਰੋ॥
ਕਿ ਸਾਡਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਆਹ ਲਏਗਾ
तुम कह बरि है न्रिपति हमारो ॥
ਹ੍ਵੈਹੈਅਧਿਕਪ੍ਰਤਾਪਤੁਮਾਰੋ॥੧੧॥
ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਹੋਏਗਾ ॥੧੧॥
‘Our Raja will retain you and your magnificence will flourish.’(11)
ह्वैहै अधिक प्रताप तुमारो ॥११॥
ਯੌਕਹਿਕੈਤਾਕੌਧਨਲੂਟਹਿ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਧਨ ਲੁਟਦੀ ਸੀ
यौ कहि कै ता कौ धन लूटहि ॥
ਬਹੁਰਿਆਨਿਵਾਤ੍ਰਿਯਾਕਹਕੂਟਹਿ॥
ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਆ ਕੇ ਰਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ (ਧਨ) ਖਿਚਦੀ ਸੀ।
Outwardly she robbed her of her wealth and beat her (mentally).
बहुरि आनि वा त्रिया कह कूटहि ॥
ਇਹਬਿਧਤ੍ਰਾਸਤਿਨੈਦਿਖਰਾਵੈ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਡਰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ
इह बिध त्रास तिनै दिखरावै ॥
ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨਮੂੰਡਮੂੰਡਿਕੈਖਾਵੈ॥੧੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੁਟ ਲੁਟ ਕੇ ਖਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ ॥੧੨॥
Advancing in such a way, she ransacked them both lavishly.(12)
दुहूंअन मूंड मूंडि कै खावै ॥१२॥

ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜੇ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦਰਸਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ
Thus, both of them, as a matter of fact, indulged in many deceits,
अनिक भाति तिह न्रिपति को दुहूंअन त्रास दिखाइ ॥
ਦਰਬੁਜੜਨਿਕੇਧਾਮਕੌਇਹਛਲਛਲਹਿਬਨਾਇ॥੧੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੂਰਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੁਟ ਕੇ ਖਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ ॥੧੩॥
As they ravaged the Raja’s wealth through trickery.(l3)
दरबु जड़नि के धाम कौ इह छल छलहि बनाइ ॥१३॥

ਸਵਤਿਤ੍ਰਾਸਜੜਦਰਬੁਲੁਟਾਵੈ॥
ਸੌਂਕਣ ਦੇ ਡਰੋਂ (ਉਹ) ਮੂਰਖ ਧਨ ਲੁਟਾਉਣ ਲਗੀ ਸੀ
सवति त्रास जड़ दरबु लुटावै ॥
ਦੁਰਾਚਾਰਸੁਤਹੇਤਕਮਾਵੈ॥
ਅਤੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ (ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ) ਲਈ ਦੁਰਾਚਾਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਸੀ।
She had been laundering money foolishly and indulging in base action
दुराचार सुत हेत कमावै ॥
