ਜੀਵਦਿਆਮਰੁਮਾਰਿਨਪਛੋਤਾਈਐ॥
(ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ!) (ਇਸ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਜੀਊਂਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਰ (ਤਾਕਿ ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ) ਪਛੁਤਾਣਾ ਨਾ ਪਏ।
While you are alive, conquer death, and you shall have no regrets in the end.
जीवदिआ मरु मारि न पछोताईऐ ॥
ਝੂਠਾਇਹੁਸੰਸਾਰੁਕਿਨਿਸਮਝਾਈਐ॥
ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਆਈ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਝੂਠਾ ਹੈ।
This world is false, but only a few understand this.
झूठा इहु संसारु किनि समझाईऐ ॥
ਸਚਿਨਧਰੇਪਿਆਰੁਧੰਧੈਧਾਈਐ॥
(ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਧੰਧੇ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ।
People do not enshrine love for the Truth; they chase after worldly affairs instead.
सचि न धरे पिआरु धंधै धाईऐ ॥
ਕਾਲੁਬੁਰਾਖੈਕਾਲੁਸਿਰਿਦੁਨੀਆਈਐ॥
(ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਕਿ) ਭੈੜਾ ਕਾਲ, ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਾਲ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਖੜਾ) ਹੈ।
The terrible time of death and annihilation hovers over the heads of the world.
कालु बुरा खै कालु सिरि दुनीआईऐ ॥
ਹੁਕਮੀਸਿਰਿਜੰਦਾਰੁਮਾਰੇਦਾਈਐ॥
ਇਹ ਜਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ (ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ) ਸਿਰ ਤੇ (ਮੌਜੂਦ) ਹੈ ਤੇ ਦਾਉ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
By the Hukam of the Lord's Command, the Messenger of Death smashes his club over their heads.
हुकमी सिरि जंदारु मारे दाईऐ ॥
ਆਪੇਦੇਇਪਿਆਰੁਮੰਨਿਵਸਾਈਐ॥
(ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ) ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Lord Himself gives His Love, and enshrines it within their minds.
आपे देइ पिआरु मंनि वसाईऐ ॥
ਮੁਹਤੁਨਚਸਾਵਿਲੰਮੁਭਰੀਐਪਾਈਐ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਸੁਆਸ ਪੂਰੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਲਕ-ਮਾਤ੍ਰ (ਇਥੇ) ਢਿੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
Not a moment or an instant's delay is permitted, when one's measure of life is full.
मुहतु न चसा विलंमु भरीऐ पाईऐ ॥
ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦੀਬੁਝਿਸਚਿਸਮਾਈਐ॥੨੦॥
(ਇਹ ਗੱਲ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ (ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ) ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਸੱਚ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੦॥
By Guru's Grace, one comes to know the True One, and is absorbed into Him. ||20||
गुर परसादी बुझि सचि समाईऐ ॥२०॥
