ਟੋਡੀਮਹਲਾ੫ਘਰੁ੨ਚਉਪਦੇ॥
ਰਾਗ ਟੋਡੀ, ਘਰ ੨ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਚਾਰ-ਬੰਦਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ।

टोडी महला ५ घरु २ चउपदे ॥
ੴਸਤਿਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥
ਧਾਇਓਰੇਮਨਦਹਦਿਸਧਾਇਓ॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜੀਵ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The mind wanders, wandering in the ten directions.
धाइओ रे मन दह दिस धाइओ ॥
ਮਾਇਆਮਗਨਸੁਆਦਿਲੋਭਿਮੋਹਿਓਤਿਨਿਪ੍ਰਭਿਆਪਿਭੁਲਾਇਓ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਰਹਾਉ॥
It is intoxicated by Maya, enticed by the taste of greed. God Himself has deluded it. ||Pause||
माइआ मगन सुआदि लोभि मोहिओ तिनि प्रभि आपि भुलाइओ ॥ रहाउ ॥
ਹਰਿਕਥਾਹਰਿਜਸਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਿਉਇਕੁਮੁਹਤੁਨਇਹੁਮਨੁਲਾਇਓ॥
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਲ, ਇਕ ਪਲ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋੜਦਾ।
He does not focus his mind, even for a moment, on the Lord's sermon, or the Lord's Praises, or the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
हरि कथा हरि जस साधसंगति सिउ इकु मुहतु न इहु मनु लाइओ ॥
ਬਿਗਸਿਓਪੇਖਿਰੰਗੁਕਸੁੰਭਕੋਪਰਗ੍ਰਿਹਜੋਹਨਿਜਾਇਓ॥੧॥
ਕਸੁੰਭੇ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਾਏ ਘਰ ਤੱਕਣ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
He is excited, gazing on the transitory color of the safflower, and looking at other men's wives. ||1||
बिगसिओ पेखि रंगु कसुंभ को पर ग्रिह जोहनि जाइओ ॥१॥
ਚਰਨਕਮਲਸਿਉਭਾਉਨਕੀਨੋਨਹਸਤਪੁਰਖੁਮਨਾਇਓ॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ, ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ।
He does not love the Lord's lotus feet, and he does not please the True Lord.
चरन कमल सिउ भाउ न कीनो नह सत पुरखु मनाइओ ॥
ਧਾਵਤਕਉਧਾਵਹਿਬਹੁਭਾਤੀਜਿਉਤੇਲੀਬਲਦੁਭ੍ਰਮਾਇਓ॥੨॥
ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਤੂੰ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਕਦੇ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੇਲੀ ਦਾ ਬਲਦ (ਕੋਹਲੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਜੁੱਪ ਕੇ) ਤੁਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਕੋਹਲੂ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪੈਂਡਾ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਉਸੇ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੨॥
He runs around chasing the fleeting objects of the world, in all directions, like the ox around the oil press. ||2||
धावत कउ धावहि बहु भाती जिउ तेली बलदु भ्रमाइओ ॥२॥
ਨਾਮਦਾਨੁਇਸਨਾਨੁਨਕੀਓਇਕਨਿਮਖਨਕੀਰਤਿਗਾਇਓ॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਪਦਾ, ਸੇਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਜੀਵਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ, ਇਕ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
He does not practice the Naam, the Name of the Lord; nor does he practice charity or inner cleansing.
नाम दानु इसनानु न कीओ इक निमख न कीरति गाइओ ॥
ਨਾਨਾਝੂਠਿਲਾਇਮਨੁਤੋਖਿਓਨਹਬੂਝਿਓਅਪਨਾਇਓ॥੩॥
ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ (ਜਗਤ) ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ॥੩॥
He does not sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, even for an instant. Clinging to his many falsehoods, he does not please his own mind, and he does not understand his own self. ||3||
नाना झूठि लाइ मनु तोखिओ नह बूझिओ अपनाइओ ॥३॥
ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰਨਕਬਹੂਕੀਏਨਹੀਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸੇਵਿਧਿਆਇਓ॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਮਾਇਆ-ਮਗਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਕਦੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਲਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ,
He never does good deeds for others; he does not serve or meditate on the True Guru.
परउपकार न कबहू कीए नही सतिगुरु सेवि धिआइओ ॥
ਪੰਚਦੂਤਰਚਿਸੰਗਤਿਗੋਸਟਿਮਤਵਾਰੋਮਦਮਾਇਓ॥੪॥
(ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜਾਂ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਲ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
He is entangled in the company and the advice of the five demons, intoxicated by the wine of Maya. ||4||
पंच दूत रचि संगति गोसटि मतवारो मद माइओ ॥४॥
ਕਰਉਬੇਨਤੀਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਹਰਿਭਗਤਿਵਛਲਸੁਣਿਆਇਓ॥
ਮੈਂ (ਤਾਂ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ-ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
I offer my prayer in the Saadh Sangat; hearing that the Lord is the Lover of His devotees, I have come.
करउ बेनती साधसंगति हरि भगति वछल सुणि आइओ ॥
ਨਾਨਕਭਾਗਿਪਰਿਓਹਰਿਪਾਛੈਰਾਖੁਲਾਜਅਪੁਨਾਇਓ॥੫॥੧॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਮੈਂ ਦੌੜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ (ਤੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖ ॥੫॥੧॥੩॥
Nanak runs after the Lord, and pleads, "Protect my honor, Lord, and make me Your own." ||5||1||3||
नानक भागि परिओ हरि पाछै राखु लाज अपुनाइओ ॥५॥१॥३॥
