ਬਾਹਰਭੇਖਿਨਪਾਈਐਪ੍ਰਭੁਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ॥
ਰੱਬ ਬਾਹਰਲੇ ਭੇਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
By wearing religious robes outwardly, God, the Inner-knower is not found.
बाहर भेखि न पाईऐ प्रभु अंतरजामी ॥
ਇਕਸੁਹਰਿਜੀਉਬਾਹਰੀਸਭਫਿਰੈਨਿਕਾਮੀ॥
ਤੇ, ਇਕ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਵਿਚਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Without the One Dear Lord, all wander around aimlessly.
इकसु हरि जीउ बाहरी सभ फिरै निकामी ॥
ਮਨੁਰਤਾਕੁਟੰਬਸਿਉਨਿਤਗਰਬਿਫਿਰਾਮੀ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Their minds are imbued with attachment to family, and so they continually wander around, puffed up with pride.
मनु रता कुटंब सिउ नित गरबि फिरामी ॥
ਫਿਰਹਿਗੁਮਾਨੀਜਗਮਹਿਕਿਆਗਰਬਹਿਦਾਮੀ॥
ਮਾਇਆ-ਧਾਰੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਕੜ ਆਕੜ ਕੇ ਚੱਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ,
The arrogant wander around the world; why are they so proud of their wealth?
फिरहि गुमानी जग महि किआ गरबहि दामी ॥
ਚਲਦਿਆਨਾਲਿਨਚਲਈਖਿਨਜਾਇਬਿਲਾਮੀ॥
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ, ਖਿਨ ਪਲ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Their wealth shall not go with them when they depart; in an instant, it is gone.
चलदिआ नालि न चलई खिन जाइ बिलामी ॥
ਬਿਚਰਦੇਫਿਰਹਿਸੰਸਾਰਮਹਿਹਰਿਜੀਹੁਕਾਮੀ॥
ਅਜੇਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ) ਜੀਵਨ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
They wander around in the world, according to the Hukam of the Lord's Command.
बिचरदे फिरहि संसार महि हरि जी हुकामी ॥
ਕਰਮੁਖੁਲਾਗੁਰੁਪਾਇਆਹਰਿਮਿਲਿਆਸੁਆਮੀ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ (ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ) ਖੁਲ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
When one's karma is activated, one finds the Guru, and through Him, the Lord and Master is found.
करमु खुला गुरु पाइआ हरि मिलिआ सुआमी ॥
ਜੋਜਨੁਹਰਿਕਾਸੇਵਕੋਹਰਿਤਿਸਕੀਕਾਮੀ॥੧੪॥
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਸਵਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
That humble being, who serves the Lord, has his affairs resolved by the Lord. ||14||
जो जनु हरि का सेवको हरि तिस की कामी ॥१४॥
