ਭਾਹਿਬਲੰਦੜੀਬੁਝਿਗਈਰਖੰਦੜੋਪ੍ਰਭੁਆਪਿ॥
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ) ਆਪ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਬਲਦੀ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਬੁੱਝ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
The burning fire has been put out; God Himself has saved me.
ਜਿਨਿਉਪਾਈਮੇਦਨੀਨਾਨਕਸੋਪ੍ਰਭੁਜਾਪਿ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਰਚੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ॥੨॥
Meditate on that God, O Nanak, who created the universe. ||2||

Pauree:
ਜਾਪ੍ਰਭਭਏਦਇਆਲਨਬਿਆਪੈਮਾਇਆ॥
ਜਦੋਂ (ਜੀਵ ਉੱਤੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਮੇਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੋਣ ਤਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
When God becomes merciful, Maya does not cling.
ਕੋਟਿਅਘਾਗਏਨਾਸਹਰਿਇਕੁਧਿਆਇਆ॥
ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Millions of sins are eliminated, by meditating on the Naam, the Name of the One Lord.
ਨਿਰਮਲਭਏਸਰੀਰਜਨਧੂਰੀਨਾਇਆ॥
ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਵਿਚ ਨ੍ਹਾਤਿਆਂ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The body is made immaculate and pure, bathing in the dust of the feet of the Lord's humble servants.
ਮਨਤਨਭਏਸੰਤੋਖਪੂਰਨਪ੍ਰਭੁਪਾਇਆ॥
(ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਤਨ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The mind and body become contented, finding the Perfect Lord God.
ਤਰੇਕੁਟੰਬਸੰਗਿਲੋਗਕੁਲਸਬਾਇਆ॥੧੮॥
ਅਜੇਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੧੮॥
One is saved, along with his family, and all his ancestors. ||18||

Shalok:
ਗੁਰਗੋਬਿੰਦਗੋਪਾਲਗੁਰਗੁਰਪੂਰਨਨਾਰਾਇਣਹ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ-ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਗੋਪਾਲ-ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ।
The Guru is the Lord of the Universe; the Guru is the Lord of the world; the Guru is the Perfect Pervading Lord God.
ਗੁਰਦਇਆਲਸਮਰਥਗੁਰਗੁਰਨਾਨਕਪਤਿਤਉਧਾਰਣਹ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈ, ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਤਾਰਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
The Guru is compassionate; the Guru is all-powerful; the Guru, O Nanak, is the Saving Grace of sinners. ||1||
ਭਉਜਲੁਬਿਖਮੁਅਸਗਾਹੁਗੁਰਿਬੋਹਿਥੈਤਾਰਿਅਮੁ॥
ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਬੜਾ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਤੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ-ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
The Guru is the boat, to cross over the dangerous, treacherous, unfathomable world-ocean.
ਨਾਨਕਪੂਰਕਰੰਮਸਤਿਗੁਰਚਰਣੀਲਗਿਆ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, by perfect good karma, one is attached to the feet of the True Guru. ||2||

ਧੰਨੁਧੰਨੁਗੁਰਦੇਵਜਿਸੁਸੰਗਿਹਰਿਜਪੇ॥
ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ,
Blessed, blessed is the Divine Guru; associating with Him, one meditates on the Lord.
ਗੁਰਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਜਬਭਏਤਅਵਗਣਸਭਿਛਪੇ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
When the Guru becomes merciful, then all one's demerits are dispelled.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਗੁਰਦੇਵਨੀਚਹੁਉਚਥਪੇ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੀਵਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Supreme Lord God, the Divine Guru, uplifts and exalts the lowly.
ਕਾਟਿਸਿਲਕਦੁਖਮਾਇਆਕਰਿਲੀਨੇਅਪਦਸੇ॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਦੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Cutting away the painful noose of Maya, He makes us His own slaves.
ਗੁਣਗਾਏਬੇਅੰਤਰਸਨਾਹਰਿਜਸੇ॥੧੯॥
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ) ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਸਕੀਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਸਕੀਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੯॥
With my tongue, I sing the Glorious Praises of the infinite Lord God. ||19||

ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੰਤਏਕੋਸੁਨੀਅੰਤਏਕੋਵਰਤੰਤਏਕੋਨਰਹਰਹ॥
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਉਹ ਖ਼ਲਕਤਿ ਦਾ ਸਾਈਂ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੁਣੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਿਆਪਕ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ,
I see only the One Lord; I hear only the One Lord; the One Lord is all-pervading.
ਨਾਮਦਾਨੁਜਾਚੰਤਿਨਾਨਕਦਇਆਲਪੁਰਖਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਕਰਹ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਿਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਖ਼ੈਰ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
Nanak begs for the gift of the Naam; O Merciful Lord God, please grant Your Grace. ||1||
ਹਿਕੁਸੇਵੀਹਿਕੁਸੰਮਲਾਹਰਿਇਕਸੁਪਹਿਅਰਦਾਸਿ॥
ਮੇਰੀ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਹੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਰੱਖਾਂ।
I serve the One Lord, I contemplate the One Lord, and to the One Lord, I offer my prayer.
ਨਾਮਵਖਰੁਧਨੁਸੰਚਿਆਨਾਨਕਸਚੀਰਾਸਿ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਸੌਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਧਨ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
Nanak has gathered in the wealth, the merchandise of the Naam; this is the true capital. ||2||

ਪ੍ਰਭਦਇਆਲਬੇਅੰਤਪੂਰਨਇਕੁਏਹੁ॥
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਹ ਦਿਆਲ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਹੈ,
God is merciful and infinite. The One and Only is all-pervading.
ਸਭੁਕਿਛੁਆਪੇਆਪਿਦੂਜਾਕਹਾਕੇਹੁ॥
ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੇਹੜਾ ਦੱਸਾਂ (ਜੇ ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਵੇ)?
He Himself is all-in-all. Who else can we speak of?
ਆਪਿਕਰਹੁਪ੍ਰਭਦਾਨੁਆਪੇਆਪਿਲੇਹੁ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਦਾਨ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
God Himself grants His gifts, and He Himself receives them.
ਆਵਣਜਾਣਾਹੁਕਮੁਸਭੁਨਿਹਚਲੁਤੁਧੁਥੇਹੁ॥
(ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਜੰਮਣਾ ਤੇ ਮਰਨਾ-ਇਹ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਤੇਰੀ ਖੇਡ ਹੈ), ਤੇਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ।
Coming and going are all by the Hukam of Your Will; Your place is steady and unchanging.
ਨਾਨਕੁਮੰਗੈਦਾਨੁਕਰਿਕਿਰਪਾਨਾਮੁਦੇਹੁ॥੨੦॥੧॥
ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੈਥੋਂ) ਖ਼ੈਰ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ॥੨੦॥੧॥
Nanak begs for this gift; by Your Grace, Lord, please grant me Your Name. ||20||1||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਨਾਥਕਛੂਅਨਜਾਨਉ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੀ ਇਸ ਅੱਗੇ (ਹੁਣ) ਕੋਈ ਪੇਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
O my Lord and Master, I know nothing.
ਮਨੁਮਾਇਆਕੈਹਾਥਿਬਿਕਾਨਉ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵੇਚ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
My mind has sold out, and is in Maya's hands. ||1||Pause||
ਤੁਮਕਹੀਅਤਹੌਜਗਤਗੁਰਸੁਆਮੀ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਥ! ਤੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਅਖਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
You are called the Lord and Master, the Guru of the World.
ਹਮਕਹੀਅਤਕਲਿਜੁਗਕੇਕਾਮੀ॥੧॥
ਅਸੀਂ ਕਲਜੁਗੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਈ ਜੀਵ ਹਾਂ (ਮੇਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰ) ॥੧॥
I am called a lustful being of the Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||1||
ਇਨਪੰਚਨਮੇਰੋਮਨੁਜੁਬਿਗਾਰਿਓ॥
(ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਇਤਨਾ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
The five vices have corrupted my mind.
ਪਲੁਪਲੁਹਰਿਜੀਤੇਅੰਤਰੁਪਾਰਿਓ॥੨॥
ਕਿ ਹਰ ਦਮ ਮੇਰੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿੱਥ ਪਵਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
Moment by moment, they lead me further away from the Lord. ||2||
ਜਤਦੇਖਉਤਤਦੁਖਕੀਰਾਸੀ॥
(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਬੜਾ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ) ਮੈਂ ਜਿੱਧਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉੱਧਰ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਸਿ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਬਣੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ।
Wherever I look, I see loads of pain and suffering.
ਅਜੌਂਨਪਤੵਾਇਨਿਗਮਭਏਸਾਖੀ॥੩॥
ਇਹ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਭੀ (ਕਿ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਟਾ ਹੈ ਦੁੱਖ) ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ, ਵੇਦਾਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ ਭੀ (ਸਾਖੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਇਹੀ ਗਵਾਹੀ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
I do not have faith, even though the Vedas bear witness to the Lord. ||3||
ਗੋਤਮਨਾਰਿਉਮਾਪਤਿਸ੍ਵਾਮੀ॥
ਗੌਤਮ ਦੀ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਅਹੱਲਿਆ, ਪਾਰਵਤੀ ਦਾ ਪਤੀ ਸ਼ਿਵ,
Shiva cut off Brahma's head, and Gautam's wife and the Lord Indra mated;
ਸੀਸੁਧਰਨਿਸਹਸਭਗਗਾਂਮੀ॥੪॥
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ, ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਭਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਵਾਲਾ ਇੰਦਰ-(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ) ॥੪॥
Brahma's head got stuck to Shiva's hand, and Indra came to bear the marks of a thousand female organs. ||4||
ਇਨਦੂਤਨਖਲੁਬਧੁਕਰਿਮਾਰਿਓ॥
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮੂਰਖ (ਮਨ) ਨੂੰ ਬੁਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ,
These demons have fooled, bound and destroyed me.
ਬਡੋਨਿਲਾਜੁਅਜਹੂਨਹੀਹਾਰਿਓ॥੫॥
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਬੜਾ ਬੇ-ਸ਼ਰਮ ਹੈ, ਅਜੇ ਭੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮੁੜਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੫॥
I am very shameless - even now, I am not tired of them. ||5||
ਕਹਿਰਵਿਦਾਸਕਹਾਕੈਸੇਕੀਜੈ॥
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੋਰ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਜਾਵਾਂ? ਹੋਰ ਕੀਹ ਕਰਾਂ?

ਬਿਨੁਰਘੁਨਾਥਸਰਨਿਕਾਕੀਲੀਜੈ॥੬॥੧॥
(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੬॥੧॥
Without the Sanctuary of the Lord's Protection, who else's should I seek? ||6||1||
