ਨਾਨਕਭਏਪੁਨੀਤਹਰਿਤੀਰਥਿਨਾਇਆ॥੨੬॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਹਰੀ (ਦੇ ਭਜਨ-ਰੂਪ) ਤੀਰਥ ਤੇ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੬॥
O Nanak, they are purified, bathing in the sacred shrine of the Lord. ||26||
ਸਲੋਕੁਮਃ੪॥
Shalok, Fourth Mahalaa:
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਅੰਤਰਿਸਾਂਤਿਹੈਮਨਿਤਨਿਨਾਮਿਸਮਾਇ॥
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਠੰਢ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੋਂ ਤਨੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Within the Gurmukh is peace and tranquility; his mind and body are absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਨਾਮੋਚਿਤਵੈਨਾਮੁਪੜੈਨਾਮਿਰਹੈਲਿਵਲਾਇ॥
ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
He contemplates the Naam, he studies the Naam, and he remains lovingly absorbed in the Naam.
ਨਾਮੁਪਦਾਰਥੁਪਾਇਆਚਿੰਤਾਗਈਬਿਲਾਇ॥
ਨਾਮ (ਰੂਪ) ਸੁੰਦਰ ਵਸਤ ਲੱਭ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
He obtains the treasure of the Naam, and his anxiety is dispelled.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿਮਿਲਿਐਨਾਮੁਊਪਜੈਤਿਸਨਾਭੁਖਸਭਜਾਇ॥
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਨਾਮ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੁੰਗਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਭੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Meeting with the Guru, the Naam wells up, and his thirst and hunger are completely relieved.
ਨਾਨਕਨਾਮੇਰਤਿਆਨਾਮੋਪਲੈਪਾਇ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਰੂਪ) ਪੱਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਕਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, he gathers in the Naam. ||1||
ਮਃ੪॥
Fourth Mahalaa:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਪੁਰਖਿਜਿਮਾਰਿਆਭ੍ਰਮਿਭ੍ਰਮਿਆਘਰੁਛੋਡਿਗਇਆ॥
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਨਫ਼ਰਤ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਭਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਪਣੇ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਤੋਂ ਹਿੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
One who is cursed by the True Guru, abandons his home, and wanders around aimlessly.
ਓਸੁਪਿਛੈਵਜੈਫਕੜੀਮੁਹੁਕਾਲਾਆਗੈਭਇਆ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੋਕ ਫੱਕੜੀ ਵਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਅੱਗੇ (ਜਿਥੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਮੁਕਾਲਖ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ।
He is jeered at, and his face is blackened in the world hereafter.
ਓਸੁਅਰਲੁਬਰਲੁਮੁਹਹੁਨਿਕਲੈਨਿਤਝਗੂਸੁਟਦਾਮੁਆ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਨਿਰਾ ਬਕਵਾਸ ਹੀ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He babbles incoherently, and foaming at the mouth, he dies.
ਕਿਆਹੋਵੈਕਿਸੈਹੀਦੈਕੀਤੈਜਾਂਧੁਰਿਕਿਰਤੁਓਸਦਾਏਹੋਜੇਹਾਪਇਆ॥
ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਮੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ), ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ (ਕੀਤੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੁਣ ਭੀ) ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੀ ਮੰਦੀ) ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਨੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ।
What can anyone do? Such is his destiny, according to his past deeds.
ਜਿਥੈਓਹੁਜਾਇਤਿਥੈਓਹੁਝੂਠਾਕੂੜੁਬੋਲੇਕਿਸੈਨਭਾਵੈ॥
ਉਹ (ਮਨਮੁਖ) ਜਿਥੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਝੂਠਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ।
Wherever he goes, he is a liar, and by telling lies, he not liked by anyone.
ਵੇਖਹੁਭਾਈਵਡਿਆਈਹਰਿਸੰਤਹੁਸੁਆਮੀਅਪੁਨੇਕੀਜੈਸਾਕੋਈਕਰੈਤੈਸਾਕੋਈਪਾਵੈ॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋਂ! ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੇਖੋ, ਕਿ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
O Siblings of Destiny, behold this, the glorious greatness of our Lord and Master, O Saints; as one behaves, so does he receive.
ਏਹੁਬ੍ਰਹਮਬੀਚਾਰੁਹੋਵੈਦਰਿਸਾਚੈਅਗੋਦੇਜਨੁਨਾਨਕੁਆਖਿਸੁਣਾਵੈ॥੨॥
ਇਹ ਸੱਚੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਸੱਚੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਸੁਣਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ ਜੁ ਭਲਾ ਬੀਜ ਬੀਜ ਕੇ ਭਲੇ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ) ॥੨॥
This shall be God's determination in His True Court; servant Nanak predicts and proclaims this. ||2||
ਪਉੜੀ॥
Pauree:
ਗੁਰਿਸਚੈਬਧਾਥੇਹੁਰਖਵਾਲੇਗੁਰਿਦਿਤੇ॥
ਸੱਚੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਸਤਸੰਗ-ਰੂਪ) ਪਿੰਡ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਪਿੰਡ ਲਈ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ) ਰਾਖੇ ਭੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
The True Guru has established the village; the Guru has appointed its guards and protectors.
ਪੂਰਨਹੋਈਆਸਗੁਰਚਰਣੀਮਨਰਤੇ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਿਟ ਗਈ ਹੈ)।
My hopes are fulfilled, and my mind is imbued with the love of the Guru's Feet.
ਗੁਰਿਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿਬੇਅੰਤਿਅਵਗਣਸਭਿਹਤੇ॥
ਦਿਆਲ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
The Guru is infinitely merciful; He has erased all my sins.
ਗੁਰਿਅਪਣੀਕਿਰਪਾਧਾਰਿਅਪਣੇਕਰਿਲਿਤੇ॥
ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
The Guru has showered me with His Mercy, and He has made me His own.
ਨਾਨਕਸਦਬਲਿਹਾਰਜਿਸੁਗੁਰਕੇਗੁਣਇਤੇ॥੨੭॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਇਤਨੇ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ ॥੨੭॥
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the Guru, who has countless virtues. ||27||
ਸਲੋਕਮਃ੧॥
Shalok, First Mahalaa:
ਤਾਕੀਰਜਾਇਲੇਖਿਆਪਾਇਅਬਕਿਆਕੀਜੈਪਾਂਡੇ॥
ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ! ਐਸ ਵੇਲੇ (ਝੁਰਿਆਂ) ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ; ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਲਿਖਿਆ (ਲੇਖ) ਪਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ;
By His Command, we receive our pre-ordained rewards; so what can we do now, O Pandit?
ਹੁਕਮੁਹੋਆਹਾਸਲੁਤਦੇਹੋਇਨਿਬੜਿਆਹੰਢਹਿਜੀਅਕਮਾਂਦੇ॥੧॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੋਇਆ ਤਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੇ (ਉਸ ਲੇਖ-ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਜੀਵ (ਕਰਮ) ਕਮਾਂਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
When His Command is received, then it is decided; all beings move and act accordingly. ||1||
ਮਃ੨॥
Second Mahalaa:
ਨਕਿਨਥਖਸਮਹਥਕਿਰਤੁਧਕੇਦੇ॥
ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਨੱਕ ਵਿਚ (ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦੀ) ਨੱਥ (ਨਕੇਲ) ਹੈ ਜੋ ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਹੁਣ ਧੱਕ ਕੇ ਚਲਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
The string through the nose is in the hands of the Lord Master; one's own actions drive him on.
ਜਹਾਦਾਣੇਤਹਾਂਖਾਣੇਨਾਨਕਾਸਚੁਹੇ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੱਚ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਿਥੇ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਦਾਣਾ-ਪਾਣੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਖਾਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
Wherever his food is, there he eats it; O Nanak, this is the Truth. ||2||
ਪਉੜੀ॥
Pauree:
ਸਭੇਗਲਾਆਪਿਥਾਟਿਬਹਾਲੀਓਨੁ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ (ਜਗਤ-) ਵਿਓਂਤਾਂ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਕਾਇਮ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ;
The Lord Himself puts everything in its proper place.
ਆਪੇਰਚਨੁਰਚਾਇਆਪੇਹੀਘਾਲਿਓਨੁ॥
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਰਚ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
He Himself created the creation, and He Himself destroys it.
ਆਪੇਜੰਤਉਪਾਇਆਪਿਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿਓਨੁ॥
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ;
He Himself fashions His creatures, and He Himself nourishes them.
ਦਾਸਰਖੇਕੰਠਿਲਾਇਨਦਰਿਨਿਹਾਲਿਓਨੁ॥
ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗਲ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
He hugs His slaves close in His embrace, and blesses them with His Glance of Grace.
ਨਾਨਕਭਗਤਾਸਦਾਅਨੰਦੁਭਾਉਦੂਜਾਜਾਲਿਓਨੁ॥੨੮॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਸਾੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੮॥
O Nanak, His devotees are forever in bliss; they have burnt away the love of duality. ||28||
ਸਲੋਕੁਮਃ੩॥
Shalok, Third Mahalaa:
ਏਮਨਹਰਿਜੀਧਿਆਇਤੂਇਕਮਨਿਇਕਚਿਤਿਭਾਇ॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਇਕਾਗ੍ਰ ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ;
O mind, meditate on the Dear Lord, with single-minded conscious concentration.
ਹਰਿਕੀਆਸਦਾਸਦਾਵਡਿਆਈਆਦੇਇਨਪਛੋਤਾਇ॥
ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਦਾਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਕੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਉਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
The glorious greatness of the Lord shall last forever and ever; He never regrets what He gives.
ਹਉਹਰਿਕੈਸਦਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈਜਿਤੁਸੇਵਿਐਸੁਖੁਪਾਇ॥
ਮੈਂ ਹਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ;
I am forever a sacrifice to the Lord; serving Him, peace is obtained.
ਨਾਨਕਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮਿਲਿਰਹੈਹਉਮੈਸਬਦਿਜਲਾਇ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਜਨ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਾੜ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, the Gurmukh remains merged with the Lord; he burns away his ego through the Word of the Shabad. ||1||

Third Mahalaa:
ਆਪੇਸੇਵਾਲਾਇਅਨੁਆਪੇਬਖਸਕਰੇਇ॥
ਹਰੀ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
He Himself enjoins us to serve Him, and He Himself blesses us with forgiveness.
ਸਭਨਾਕਾਮਾਪਿਉਆਪਿਹੈਆਪੇਸਾਰਕਰੇਇ॥
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He Himself is the father and mother of all; He Himself cares for us.
ਨਾਨਕਨਾਮੁਧਿਆਇਨਿਤਿਨਨਿਜਘਰਿਵਾਸੁਹੈਜੁਗੁਜੁਗੁਸੋਭਾਹੋਇ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਤੇ ਟਿਕੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਰੇਕ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, those who meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, abide in the home of their inner being; they are honored throughout the ages. ||2||
ਪਉੜੀ॥
Pauree:
ਤੂਕਰਣਕਾਰਣਸਮਰਥੁਹਹਿਕਰਤੇਮੈਤੁਝਬਿਨੁਅਵਰੁਨਕੋਈ॥
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਰਚਣ-ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈਂ; ਤੇਰੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੇਡਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ;
You are the Creator, all-powerful, able to do anything. Without You, there is no other at all.
