ਜਪਿਜੀਵਾਪ੍ਰਭਚਰਣਤੁਮਾਰੇ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
I live by meditating on Your Feet, God. ||1||Pause||
ਦਇਆਲਪੁਰਖਮੇਰੇਪ੍ਰਭਦਾਤੇ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਦਾਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ!
O my Merciful and Almighty God, O Great Giver,
ਜਿਸਹਿਜਨਾਵਹੁਤਿਨਹਿਤੁਮਜਾਤੇ॥੨॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸੇ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
he alone knows You, whom You so bless. ||2||
ਸਦਾਸਦਾਜਾਈਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
Forever and ever, I am a sacrifice to You.
ਇਤਉਤਦੇਖਉਓਟਤੁਮਾਰੀ॥੩॥
ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
Here and hereafter, I seek Your Protection. ||3||
ਮੋਹਿਨਿਰਗੁਣਗੁਣੁਕਿਛੂਨਜਾਤਾ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਂ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਣ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ (ਉਪਕਾਰ) ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਿਆ।
I am without virtue; I know none of Your Glorious Virtues.
ਨਾਨਕਸਾਧੂਦੇਖਿਮਨੁਰਾਤਾ॥੪॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ (ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ) ਰੰਗਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੩॥
O Nanak, seeing the Holy Saint, my mind is imbued with You. ||4||3||
ਵਡਹੰਸੁਮਃ੫॥
Wadahans, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀਸੋਪ੍ਰਭੁਪੂਰਾ॥
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈ।
God is perfect - He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
ਦਾਨੁਦੇਇਸਾਧੂਕੀਧੂਰਾ॥੧॥
(ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ (ਵਜੋਂ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
He blesses us with the gift of the dust of the feet of the Saints. ||1||
ਕਰਿਕਿਰਪਾਪ੍ਰਭਦੀਨਦਇਆਲਾ॥
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ।
Bless me with Your Grace, God, O Merciful to the meek.
ਤੇਰੀਓਟਪੂਰਨਗੋਪਾਲਾ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ-ਪਾਲਕ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
I seek Your Protection, O Perfect Lord, Sustainer of the World. ||1||Pause||
ਜਲਿਥਲਿਮਹੀਅਲਿਰਹਿਆਭਰਪੂਰੇ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ, ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ, ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ, ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਜ਼ੱਰੇ ਜ਼ੱਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ,
He is totally pervading and permeating the water, the land and the sky.
ਨਿਕਟਿਵਸੈਨਾਹੀਪ੍ਰਭੁਦੂਰੇ॥੨॥
ਉਹ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
God is near at hand, not far away. ||2||
ਜਿਸਨੋਨਦਰਿਕਰੇਸੋਧਿਆਏ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
One whom He blesses with His Grace, meditates on Him.
ਆਠਪਹਰਹਰਿਕੇਗੁਣਗਾਏ॥੩॥
ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
Twenty-four hours a day, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||
ਜੀਅਜੰਤਸਗਲੇਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰੇ॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He cherishes and sustains all beings and creatures.
ਸਰਨਿਪਰਿਓਨਾਨਕਹਰਿਦੁਆਰੇ॥੪॥੪॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੪॥
Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord's Door. ||4||4||
ਵਡਹੰਸੁਮਹਲਾ੫॥
Wadahans, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਤੂਵਡਦਾਤਾਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ,
You are the Great Giver, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
ਸਭਮਹਿਰਵਿਆਪੂਰਨਪ੍ਰਭਸੁਆਮੀ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥
God, the Perfect Lord and Master, is permeating and pervading in all. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇਪ੍ਰਭਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਨਾਮੁਅਧਾਰਾ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ (ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।
The Name of my Beloved God is my only support.
ਹਉਸੁਣਿਸੁਣਿਜੀਵਾਨਾਮੁਤੁਮਾਰਾ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
I live by hearing, continually hearing Your Name. ||1||Pause||
ਤੇਰੀਸਰਣਿਸਤਿਗੁਰਮੇਰੇਪੂਰੇ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ,
I seek Your Sanctuary, O my Perfect True Guru.
ਮਨੁਨਿਰਮਲੁਹੋਇਸੰਤਾਧੂਰੇ॥੨॥
ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
My mind is purified by the dust of the Saints. ||2||
ਚਰਨਕਮਲਹਿਰਦੈਉਰਿਧਾਰੇ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
I have enshrined His Lotus Feet within my heart.
ਤੇਰੇਦਰਸਨਕਉਜਾਈਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ॥੩॥
ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
I am a sacrifice to the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||3||
ਕਰਿਕਿਰਪਾਤੇਰੇਗੁਣਗਾਵਾ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ,
Show mercy unto me, that I may sing Your Glorious Praises.
ਨਾਨਕਨਾਮੁਜਪਤਸੁਖੁਪਾਵਾ॥੪॥੫॥
ਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ॥੪॥੫॥
O Nanak, chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, I obtain peace. ||4||5||
ਵਡਹੰਸੁਮਹਲਾ੫॥
Wadahans, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਹਰਿਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁਪੀਜੈ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਲ ਪੀਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, drink in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord.
ਨਾਜੀਉਮਰੈਨਕਬਹੂਛੀਜੈ॥੧॥
ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਜਿੰਦ ਨਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਕਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
The soul does not die, nor does it ever waste away. ||1||
ਵਡਭਾਗੀਗੁਰੁਪੂਰਾਪਾਈਐ॥
ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
By great good fortune, one meets the Perfect Guru.
ਗੁਰਕਿਰਪਾਤੇਪ੍ਰਭੂਧਿਆਈਐ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
By Guru's Grace, one meditates on God. ||1||Pause||
ਰਤਨਜਵਾਹਰਹਰਿਮਾਣਕਲਾਲਾ॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਰਤਨ ਹਨ, ਜਵਾਹਰ ਹਨ, ਮੋਤੀ ਹਨ, ਲਾਲ ਹਨ।
The Lord is the jewel, the pearl, the gem, the diamond.
ਸਿਮਰਿਸਿਮਰਿਪ੍ਰਭਭਏਨਿਹਾਲਾ॥੨॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜੇ ਰਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
Meditating, meditating in remembrance on God, I am in ecstasy. ||2||
ਜਤਕਤਪੇਖਉਸਾਧੂਸਰਣਾ॥
ਮੈਂ ਜਿਧਰ ਕਿਧਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕੇਵਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ,
Wherever I look, I see the Sanctuary of the Holy.
ਹਰਿਗੁਣਗਾਇਨਿਰਮਲਮਨੁਕਰਣਾ॥੩॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, my soul becomes immaculately pure. ||3||
ਘਟਘਟਅੰਤਰਿਮੇਰਾਸੁਆਮੀਵੂਠਾ॥
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
Within each and every heart, dwells my Lord and Master.
ਨਾਨਕਨਾਮੁਪਾਇਆਪ੍ਰਭੁਤੂਠਾ॥੪॥੬॥
ਜਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (-ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ॥੪॥੬॥
O Nanak, one obtains the Naam, the Name of the Lord, when God bestows His Mercy. ||4||6||

ਵਿਸਰੁਨਾਹੀਪ੍ਰਭਦੀਨਦਇਆਲਾ॥
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਕਦੇ ਨਾ ਭੁਲ!
Do not forget me, O God, Merciful to the meek.
ਤੇਰੀਸਰਣਿਪੂਰਨਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ! ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
I seek Your Sanctuary, O Perfect, Compassionate Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਜਹਚਿਤਿਆਵਹਿਸੋਥਾਨੁਸੁਹਾਵਾ॥
ਜਿਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਹ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਥਾਂ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Wherever You come to mind, that place is blessed.
ਜਿਤੁਵੇਲਾਵਿਸਰਹਿਤਾਲਾਗੈਹਾਵਾ॥੧॥
ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੂੰ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਹਉਕਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
The moment I forget You, I am stricken with regret. ||1||
ਤੇਰੇਜੀਅਤੂਸਦਹੀਸਾਥੀ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ) ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਹੈਂ।
All beings are Yours; You are their constant companion.
ਸੰਸਾਰਸਾਗਰਤੇਕਢੁਦੇਹਾਥੀ॥੨॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣਾ) ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਲੈ ॥੨॥
Please, give me Your hand, and pull me up out of this world-ocean. ||2||
ਆਵਣੁਜਾਣਾਤੁਮਹੀਕੀਆ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
Coming and going are by Your Will.
ਜਿਸੁਤੂਰਾਖਹਿਤਿਸੁਦੂਖੁਨਥੀਆ॥੩॥
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ (ਇਸ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਦੁਖ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੩॥
One whom You save is not afflicted by suffering. ||3||
ਤੂਏਕੋਸਾਹਿਬੁਅਵਰੁਨਹੋਰਿ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਇਕ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ ਐਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ।
You are the One and only Lord and Master; there is no other.
ਬਿਨਉਕਰੈਨਾਨਕੁਕਰਜੋਰਿ॥੪॥੭॥
ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ) ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੭॥
Nanak offers this prayer with his palms pressed together. ||4||7||
ਵਡਹੰਸੁਮਃ੫॥

ਤੂਜਾਣਾਇਹਿਤਾਕੋਈਜਾਣੈ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
When You allow Yourself to be known, then we know You.
ਤੇਰਾਦੀਆਨਾਮੁਵਖਾਣੈ॥੧॥
ਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
We chant Your Name, which You have given to us. ||1||
ਤੂਅਚਰਜੁਕੁਦਰਤਿਤੇਰੀਬਿਸਮਾ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਚੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਭੀ ਹੈਰਾਨਗੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
You are wonderful! Your creative potency is amazing! ||1||Pause||
