ਸੋਬੂਝੈਜਿਸੁਆਪਿਬੁਝਾਏ॥
(ਇਸ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਆਪ ਸਮਝਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
He alone understands, whom the Lord Himself inspires to understand.
ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦੀਸੇਵਕਰਾਏ॥੧॥
ਤੇ (ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
By Guru's Grace, one serves Him. ||1||
ਗਿਆਨਰਤਨਿਸਭਸੋਝੀਹੋਇ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ ਹੋਏ ਗਿਆਨ-ਰਤਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਬਾਰੇ) ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
With the jewel of spiritual wisdom, total understanding is obtained.
ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦਿਅਗਿਆਨੁਬਿਨਾਸੈਅਨਦਿਨੁਜਾਗੈਵੇਖੈਸਚੁਸੋਇ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਅਗਿਆਨ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ (ਹੀ) ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
By Guru's Grace, ignorance is dispelled; one then remains wakeful, night and day, and beholds the True Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਮੋਹੁਗੁਮਾਨੁਗੁਰਸਬਦਿਜਲਾਏ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮੋਹ ਅਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, attachment and pride are burnt away.
ਪੂਰੇਗੁਰਤੇਸੋਝੀਪਾਏ॥
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ) ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
From the Perfect Guru, true understanding is obtained.
ਅੰਤਰਿਮਹਲੁਗੁਰਸਬਦਿਪਛਾਣੈ॥
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਵੱਸਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one realizes the Lord's Presence within.
ਆਵਣਜਾਣੁਰਹੈਥਿਰੁਨਾਮਿਸਮਾਣੇ॥੨॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅਡੋਲ-ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
Then, one's coming and going cease, and one becomes stable, absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||
ਜੰਮਣੁਮਰਣਾਹੈਸੰਸਾਰੁ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜਗਤ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਹੀ) ਹੈ।
The world is tied to birth and death.
ਮਨਮੁਖੁਅਚੇਤੁਮਾਇਆਮੋਹੁਗੁਬਾਰੁ॥
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਲੋਂ) ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਿਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ-ਰੂਪ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਸੁੱਝਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ।)
The unconscious, self-willed manmukh is enveloped in the darkness of Maya and emotional attachment.
ਪਰਨਿੰਦਾਬਹੁਕੂੜੁਕਮਾਵੈ॥
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਿਰਾ ਝੂਠ-ਫ਼ਰੇਬ ਹੀ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
He slanders others, and practices utter falsehood.
ਵਿਸਟਾਕਾਕੀੜਾਵਿਸਟਾਮਾਹਿਸਮਾਵੈ॥੩॥
(ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕੂੜ-ਠੱਗੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਇਉਂ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਗੰਦ ਦਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਗੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲਣਾ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ) ॥੩॥
He is a maggot in manure, and into manure he is absorbed. ||3||
ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਸਭਸੋਝੀਪਾਏ॥
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਸੂਝ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Joining the True Congregation, the Sat Sangat, total understanding is obtained.
ਗੁਰਕਾਸਬਦੁਹਰਿਭਗਤਿਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ॥
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪੱਕੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, devotional love for the Lord is implanted.
ਭਾਣਾਮੰਨੇਸਦਾਸੁਖੁਹੋਇ॥
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ (ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who surrenders to the Lord's Will is peaceful forever.
ਨਾਨਕਸਚਿਸਮਾਵੈਸੋਇ॥੪॥੧੦॥੪੯॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੪੯॥
O Nanak, he is absorbed into the True Lord. ||4||10||49||
ਆਸਾਮਹਲਾ੩ਪੰਚਪਦੇ₂॥
Aasaa, Third Mahalaa, Panch-Padas:
ਸਬਦਿਮਰੈਤਿਸੁਸਦਾਅਨੰਦ॥
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
One who dies in the Word of the Shabad, finds eternal bliss.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਭੇਟੇਗੁਰਗੋਬਿੰਦ॥
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
He is united with the True Guru, the Guru, the Lord God.
ਨਾਫਿਰਿਮਰੈਨਆਵੈਜਾਇ॥
ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਰਦਾ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
He does not die any more, and he does not come or go.
ਪੂਰੇਗੁਰਤੇਸਾਚਿਸਮਾਇ॥੧॥
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
Through the Perfect Guru, he merges with the True Lord. ||1||
ਜਿਨੑਕਉਨਾਮੁਲਿਖਿਆਧੁਰਿਲੇਖੁ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
One who has the Naam, the Name of the Lord, written in his pre-ordained destiny,
ਤੇਅਨਦਿਨੁਨਾਮੁਸਦਾਧਿਆਵਹਿਗੁਰਪੂਰੇਤੇਭਗਤਿਵਿਸੇਖੁ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ, ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਟਿੱਕਾ (ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
night and day, meditates forever on the Naam; he obtains the wondrous blessing of devotional love from the Perfect Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਨੑਕਉਹਰਿਪ੍ਰਭੁਲਏਮਿਲਾਇ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Those, whom the Lord God has blended with Himself
ਤਿਨੑਕੀਗਹਣਗਤਿਕਹੀਨਜਾਇ॥
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
their sublime state cannot be described.
ਪੂਰੈਸਤਿਗੁਰਦਿਤੀਵਡਿਆਈ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ ਦੀ ਇਹ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ,
The Perfect True Guru has given the Glorious Greatness,
ਊਤਮਪਦਵੀਹਰਿਨਾਮਿਸਮਾਈ॥੨॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਲੀਨਤਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ ॥੨॥
of the most exalted order, and I am absorbed into the Lord's Name. ||2||
ਜੋਕਿਛੁਕਰੇਸੁਆਪੇਆਪਿ॥
'ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Whatever the Lord does, He does all by Himself.
ਏਕਘੜੀਮਹਿਥਾਪਿਉਥਾਪਿ॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੁਰਤ ਨਾਸ ਭੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ'-
In an instant, He establishes, and disestablishes.
ਕਹਿਕਹਿਕਹਣਾਆਖਿਸੁਣਾਏ॥
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਇਹੀ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਅਜੇਹਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ)
By merely speaking, talking, shouting and preaching about the Lord,
ਜੇਸਉਘਾਲੇਥਾਇਨਪਾਏ॥੩॥
ਜੇ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ (ਨਿਰੀ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਹਣ ਦੀ) ਸੌ ਘਾਲਣਾ ਭੀ ਘਾਲੇ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਹਨਤ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਕਬੂਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ ॥੩॥
even hundreds of times, the mortal is not approved. ||3||
ਜਿਨੑਕੈਪੋਤੈਪੁੰਨੁਤਿਨੑਾਗੁਰੂਮਿਲਾਏ॥
(ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੱਲੇ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ) ਚੰਗੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
The Guru meets with those, who take virtue as their treasure;
ਸਚੁਬਾਣੀਗੁਰੁਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਾਏ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
they listen to the True Word of the Guru's Bani, the Shabad.
ਜਹਾਂਸਬਦੁਵਸੈਤਹਾਂਦੁਖੁਜਾਏ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਥੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Pain departs, from that place where the Shabad abides.
ਗਿਆਨਿਰਤਨਿਸਾਚੈਸਹਜਿਸਮਾਏ॥੪॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਰਤਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
By the jewel of spiritual wisdom, one is easily absorbed into the True Lord. ||4||
ਨਾਵੈਜੇਵਡੁਹੋਰੁਧਨੁਨਾਹੀਕੋਇ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਧਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ
No other wealth is as great as the Naam.
ਜਿਸਨੋਬਖਸੇਸਾਚਾਸੋਇ॥
(ਪਰ ਇਹ ਧਨ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
It is bestowed only by the True Lord.
ਪੂਰੈਸਬਦਿਮੰਨਿਵਸਾਏ॥
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
Through the Perfect Word of the Shabad, it abides in the mind.
ਨਾਨਕਨਾਮਿਰਤੇਸੁਖੁਪਾਏ॥੫॥੧੧॥੫੦॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਦਾ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੧੧॥੫੦॥
O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, peace is obtained. ||5||11||50||
ਆਸਾਮਹਲਾ੩॥
Aasaa, Third Mahalaa:
ਨਿਰਤਿਕਰੇਬਹੁਵਾਜੇਵਜਾਏ॥
(ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਜੋਂ) ਨਾਚ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਸਾਜ ਭੀ ਵਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
One may dance and play numerous instruments;
ਇਹੁਮਨੁਅੰਧਾਬੋਲਾਹੈਕਿਸੁਆਖਿਸੁਣਾਏ॥
ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਾ ਰਿਹਾ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣ ਰਿਹਾ)। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ।
but this mind is blind and deaf, so for whose benefit is this speaking and preaching?
ਅੰਤਰਿਲੋਭੁਭਰਮੁਅਨਲਵਾਉ॥
(ਅਜੇਹੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ) ਦੀਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਗ ਸਕਦਾ,
Deep within is the fire of greed, and the dust-storm of doubt.
ਦੀਵਾਬਲੈਨਸੋਝੀਪਾਇ॥੧॥
ਉਹ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥
The lamp of knowledge is not burning, and understanding is not obtained. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਭਗਤਿਘਟਿਚਾਨਣੁਹੋਇ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਆਤਮਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Gurmukh has the light of devotional worship within his heart.
ਆਪੁਪਛਾਣਿਮਿਲੈਪ੍ਰਭੁਸੋਇ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
(ਇਸ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਖਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Understanding his own self, he meets God. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਨਿਰਤਿਹਰਿਲਾਗੈਭਾਉ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਚ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
The Gurmukh's dance is to embrace love for the Lord;
ਪੂਰੇਤਾਲਵਿਚਹੁਆਪੁਗਵਾਇ॥
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ) ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਲ ਸਿਰ ਨਾਚ ਕਰਨਾ।
to the beat of the drum, he sheds his ego from within.
ਮੇਰਾਪ੍ਰਭੁਸਾਚਾਆਪੇਜਾਣੁ॥
(ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਨਾਚ ਨੱਚਦਾ ਹੈ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
My God is True; He Himself is the Knower of all.
ਗੁਰਕੈਸਬਦਿਅੰਤਰਿਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਪਛਾਣੁ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਛਾਣੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, recognize the Creator Lord within yourself. ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਭਗਤਿਅੰਤਰਿਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਪਿਆਰੁ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Gurmukh is filled with devotional love for the Beloved Lord.
ਗੁਰਕਾਸਬਦੁਸਹਜਿਵੀਚਾਰੁ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
He intuitively reflects upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਭਗਤਿਜੁਗਤਿਸਚੁਸੋਇ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ (ਸਹੀ) ਤਰੀਕਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
For the Gurmukh, loving devotional worship is the way to the True Lord.
ਪਾਖੰਡਿਭਗਤਿਨਿਰਤਿਦੁਖੁਹੋਇ॥੩॥
ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਚ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
But the dances and the worship of the hypocrites bring only pain. ||3||
