Raag Gauree Poorbee, Fifth Mahalaa:
ੴਸਤਿਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਹਰਿਹਰਿਕਬਹੂਨਮਨਹੁਬਿਸਾਰੇ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਹ ਵਿਸਾਰ।
Never forget the Lord, Har, Har, from your mind.
ਈਹਾਊਹਾਸਰਬਸੁਖਦਾਤਾਸਗਲਘਟਾਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰੇ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ, ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Here and hereafter, He is the Giver of all peace. He is the Cherisher of all hearts. ||1||Pause||
ਮਹਾਕਸਟਕਾਟੈਖਿਨਭੀਤਰਿਰਸਨਾਨਾਮੁਚਿਤਾਰੇ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ) ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He removes the most terrible pains in an instant, if the tongue repeats His Name.
ਸੀਤਲਸਾਂਤਿਸੂਖਹਰਿਸਰਣੀਜਲਤੀਅਗਨਿਨਿਵਾਰੇ॥੧॥
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਉਹ ਹਰੀ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ) ਬਲਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਬੁਝਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਲੋਂ) ਠੰਢੇ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਤੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
In the Lord's Sanctuary there is soothing coolness, peace and tranquility. He has extinguished the burning fire. ||1||
ਗਰਭਕੁੰਡਨਰਕਤੇਰਾਖੈਭਵਜਲੁਪਾਰਿਉਤਾਰੇ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਦੇ ਨਰਕ-ਕੁੰਡ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He saves us from the hellish pit of the womb, and carries us across the terrifying world-ocean.
ਚਰਨਕਮਲਆਰਾਧਤਮਨਮਹਿਜਮਕੀਤ੍ਰਾਸਬਿਦਾਰੇ॥੨॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਰਾਧਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਹਮ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
Adoring His Lotus Feet in the mind, the fear of death is banished. ||2||
ਪੂਰਨਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਊਚਾਅਗਮਅਪਾਰੇ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ, ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ।
He is the Perfect, Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent Lord, lofty, unfathomable and infinite.
ਗੁਣਗਾਵਤਧਿਆਵਤਸੁਖਸਾਗਰਜੂਏਜਨਮੁਨਹਾਰੇ॥੩॥
ਉਸ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਆਰਾਧਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਵਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ॥੩॥
Singing His Glorious Praises, and meditating on the Ocean of peace, one's life is not lost in the gamble. ||3||
ਕਾਮਿਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਲੋਭਿਮੋਹਿਮਨੁਲੀਨੋਨਿਰਗੁਣਕੇਦਾਤਾਰੇ॥
ਹੇ (ਮੈਂ) ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਣ ਦੇ ਦਾਤਾਰ! ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਕਾਮ ਵਿਚ, ਕਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ, ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ, ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ।
My mind is engrossed in sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment, O Giver to the unworthy.
ਕਰਿਕਿਰਪਾਅਪੁਨੋਨਾਮੁਦੀਜੈਨਾਨਕਸਦਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ॥੪॥੧॥੧੩੮॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ)-ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੩੮॥
Please grant Your Grace, and bless me with Your Name; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||4||1||138||
ਰਾਗੁਗਉੜੀਚੇਤੀ₁ਮਹਲਾ੫॥
ਰਾਗ ਗਉੜੀ-ਚੇਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
Raag Gauree Chaytee, Fifth Mahalaa:
ੴਸਤਿਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਸੁਖੁਨਾਹੀਰੇਹਰਿਭਗਤਿਬਿਨਾ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ) ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ।
There is no peace without devotional worship of the Lord.
ਜੀਤਿਜਨਮੁਇਹੁਰਤਨੁਅਮੋਲਕੁਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਜਪਿਇਕਖਿਨਾ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਲ ਪਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ (ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ) ਜਿੱਤ ਲੈ। ਇਹ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ) ਇਕ ਐਸਾ ਰਤਨ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ (ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਮੁੱਲ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Be victorious, and win the priceless jewel of this human life, by meditating on Him in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, even for an instant. ||1||Pause||
ਸੁਤਸੰਪਤਿਬਨਿਤਾਬਿਨੋਦ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਧਨ, ਪਦਾਰਥ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਲਾਡ-ਪਿਆਰ-ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਲੋਕ-
Many have renounced and left their children,
ਛੋਡਿਗਏਬਹੁਲੋਗਭੋਗ॥੧॥
ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਮੌਜ-ਮੇਲੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਚਲੇ ਗਏ (ਤੇ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ) ॥੧॥
wealth, spouses, joyful games and pleasures. ||1||
ਹੈਵਰਗੈਵਰਰਾਜਰੰਗ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਵਧੀਆ ਘੋੜੇ, ਵਧੀਆ ਹਾਥੀ ਤੇ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੌਜਾਂ-
Horses, elephants and the pleasures of power
ਤਿਆਗਿਚਲਿਓਹੈਮੂੜਨੰਗ॥੨॥
ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ (ਆਖ਼ਿਰ) ਨੰਗਾ ਹੀ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
- leaving these behind, the fool must depart naked. ||2||
ਚੋਆਚੰਦਨਦੇਹਫੂਲਿਆ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਤਰ ਤੇ ਚੰਦਨ (ਆਦਿਕ ਲਾ ਕੇ) ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The body, scented with musk and sandalwood
ਸੋਤਨੁਧਰਸੰਗਿਰੂਲਿਆ॥੩॥
(ਪਰ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਕਿ) ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ (ਆਖ਼ਿਰ) ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੁਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
- that body shall come to roll in the dust. ||3||
ਮੋਹਿਮੋਹਿਆਜਾਨੈਦੂਰਿਹੈ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਤੇ) ਦੂਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
Infatuated with emotional attachment, they think that God is far away.
ਕਹੁਨਾਨਕਸਦਾਹਦੂਰਿਹੈ॥੪॥੧॥੧੩੯॥
(ਪਰ) ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੩੯॥
Says Nanak, he is Ever-present! ||4||1||139||
ਗਉੜੀਮਹਲਾ੫॥
Gauree, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਮਨਧਰਤਰਬੇਹਰਿਨਾਮਨੋ॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਲਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।
O mind, cross over with the Support of the Lord's Name.
ਸਾਗਰਲਹਰਿਸੰਸਾਸੰਸਾਰੁਗੁਰੁਬੋਹਿਥੁਪਾਰਗਰਾਮਨੋ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਹਿਮ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
The Guru is the boat to carry you across the world-ocean, through the waves of cynicism and doubt. ||1||Pause||
ਕਲਿਕਾਲਖਅੰਧਿਆਰੀਆ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਝਗੜੇ-ਬਖੇੜੇ (ਇਕ ਐਸੀ) ਕਾਲਖ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਹਨੇਰਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, there is only pitch darkness.
ਗੁਰਗਿਆਨਦੀਪਕਉਜਿਆਰੀਆ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਵਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
The lamp of the Guru's spiritual wisdom illuminates and enlightens. ||1||
ਬਿਖੁਬਿਖਿਆਪਸਰੀਅਤਿਘਨੀ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਦੀ ਜ਼ਹਰ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਬਹੁਤ ਸੰਘਣੀ ਖਿਲਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
The poison of corruption is spread out far and wide.
ਉਬਰੇਜਪਿਜਪਿਹਰਿਗੁਨੀ॥੨॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਦੀ ਮਾਰ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
Only the virtuous are saved, chanting and meditating on the Lord. ||2||
ਮਤਵਾਰੋਮਾਇਆਸੋਇਆ॥
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁੱਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Intoxicated with Maya, the people are asleep.
ਗੁਰਭੇਟਤਭ੍ਰਮੁਭਉਖੋਇਆ॥੩॥
ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਭਟਕਣ ਤੇ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ) ਸਹਮ-ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
Meeting the Guru, doubt and fear are dispelled. ||3||
ਕਹੁਨਾਨਕਏਕੁਧਿਆਇਆ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਿਆ ਹੈ,
Says Nanak, meditate on the One Lord;
ਘਟਿਘਟਿਨਦਰੀਆਇਆ॥੪॥੨॥੧੪੦॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੪੦॥
behold Him in each and every heart. ||4||2||140||
ਗਉੜੀਮਹਲਾ੫॥
Gauree, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਦੀਬਾਨੁਹਮਾਰੋਤੁਹੀਏਕ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ।
You alone are my Chief Advisor.
ਸੇਵਾਥਾਰੀਗੁਰਹਿਟੇਕ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
I serve You with the Support of the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਅਨਿਕਜੁਗਤਿਨਹੀਪਾਇਆ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਿਆ।
By various devices, I could not find You.
ਗੁਰਿਚਾਕਰਲੈਲਾਇਆ॥੧॥
(ਹੁਣ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਤੇਰਾ ਚਾਕਰ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ (ਤੇਰੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ) ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
Taking hold of me, the Guru has made me Your slave. ||1||
ਮਾਰੇਪੰਚਬਿਖਾਦੀਆ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜੇ ਝਗੜਾਲੂ ਵੈਰੀ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਏ ਹਨ,
I have conquered the five tyrants.
ਗੁਰਕਿਰਪਾਤੇਦਲੁਸਾਧਿਆ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਦੀ) ਫ਼ੌਜ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
By Guru's Grace, I have vanquished the army of evil. ||2||
ਬਖਸੀਸਵਜਹੁਮਿਲਿਏਕੁਨਾਮ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
I have received the One Name as His bounty and blessing.
ਸੂਖਸਹਜਆਨੰਦਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ॥੩॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
Now, I dwell in peace, poise and bliss. ||3||
