ਸਬਦੇਵਨਮਿਲਿਕਰਿਯੋਬਿਚਾਰਾ॥
ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ
ਛੀਰਸਮੁਦ੍ਰਕਹੁਚਲੇਸੁਧਾਰਾ॥
ਅਤੇ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਛੀਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਚਲ ਪਏ।
All the gods together reflected on this issued and went towards the milk-ocean.
ਕਾਲਪੁਰਖੁਕੀਕਰੀਬਡਾਈ॥
(ਉਥੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ) 'ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ' ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਇਮਆਗਿਆਤਹਤੈਤਿਨਿਆਈ॥੩॥
ਉਥੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥੩॥
There they eulogized KAL, the destroyer Lord and received the following message.3.
ਦਿਜਜਮਦਗਨਿਜਗਤਮੋਸੋਹਤ॥
ਜਮਦਗਨਿ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁਨੀ (ਦਿਜ) ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਬਿਰਾਜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਤਉਠਿਕਰਤਅਘਨਓਘਨਹਤ॥
(ਉਹ) ਨਿੱਤ ਉਠ ਕੇ (ਸਾਧਨਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Destroyer Lord said, “ A sage named Yamadagni abides on the earth, who always gets up to destroy the sins by his virtuous deeds.
ਤਹਤੁਮਧਰੋਬਿਸਨਅਵਤਾਰਾ॥
ਹੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਣੂ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ (ਘਰ) ਜਾ ਕੇ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰੋ
ਹਨਹੁਸਕ੍ਰਕੇਸਤ੍ਰਸੁਧਾਰਾ॥੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਇੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਦਿਓ ॥੪॥
“O Vishnu, manifested yourself in his house and destroy the enemies of India.”4.

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA
ਜਯੋਜਾਮਦਗਨੰਦਿਜੰਆਵਤਾਰੀ॥
ਜਮਦਗਨਿ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਦੇ ਘਰ (ਵਿਸ਼ਣੂ) ਨੇ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਲਿਆ।
ਭਯੋਰੇਣੁਕਾਤੇਕਵਾਚੀਕੁਠਾਰੀ॥
(ਉਹ) ਕਵਚ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਹਾੜਾ (ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਰੇਣਕਾ (ਦੀ ਕੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ) ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।
Hail, hail to the incarnation-like sage Yamadagni, through whose wife Renuka was born the wearer of armour and carrier of axe (that is Parashurama)
ਧਰਿਯੋਛਤ੍ਰੀਯਾਪਾਤਕੋਕਾਲਰੂਪੰ॥
(ਇਉਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ) ਛਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਾਲ ਨੇ ਹੀ (ਇਹ) ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਵੇ
ਹਨ੍ਯੋਜਾਇਜਉਨੈਸਹੰਸਾਸਤ੍ਰਭੂਪੰ॥੫॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਹਸ੍ਰਬਾਹੁ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਸੀ ॥੫॥
He manifested himself as death for the Kshatriyas and destroyed the king named Sahasrabadhu.5.
ਕਹਾਗੰਮਏਤੀਕਥਾਸਰਬਭਾਖਉ॥
ਇਤਨੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਸਾਰੀ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਵਾਂ,
ਕਥਾਬ੍ਰਿਧਤੇਥੋਰੀਐਬਾਤਰਾਖਉ॥
ਕਥਾ ਵੱਧ ਨਾ ਜਾਏ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਥੋੜੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੀ ਦਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
I have not the requisite wisdom to describe the whole story, therefore fearing lest it may not become voluminous, I say it very briefly:
ਭਰੇਗਰਬਛਤ੍ਰੀਨਰੇਸੰਅਪਾਰੰ॥
ਅਪਾਰ ਛਤਰੀ ਰਾਜੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ।
ਤਿਨੈਨਾਸਕੋਪਾਣਿਧਾਰਿਯੋਕੁਠਾਰੰ॥੬॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ਼ ਲਈ (ਪਰਸ਼ੁਰਾਮ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਹਾੜਾ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੬॥
The Kshatriya king had been intoxicated with pride and in order to destroy them, Parashurama held up the axe in his hand.6.
ਹੁਤੀਨੰਦਨੀਸਿੰਧਜਾਕੀਸੁਪੁਤ੍ਰੀ॥
(ਘਟਨਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਛੋਕੜ ਇਹ ਸੀ ਕਿ) ਕਾਮਧੇਨੁ ਗਊ ਦੀ ਨੰਦਨੀ ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੁੱਤਰੀ ਸੀ।
ਤਿਸੈਮਾਗਹਾਰਿਯੋਸਹੰਸਾਸਤ੍ਰਛਤ੍ਰੀ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਸ੍ਰਬਾਹੁ ਛਤਰੀ (ਜਮਦਗਨਿ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਮੰਗ ਮੰਗ ਕੇ ਥਕ ਗਿਆ।
Nandini, the wish-fulfilling cow like the daughter of Yamadagni and the Kshatriya Sahasrabahu had got tired in begging it from the sage.
ਲੀਯੋਛੀਨਗਾਯੰਹਤਿਯੋਰਾਮਤਾਤੰ॥
(ਮੌਕਾ ਤਾੜ ਕੇ) ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗਊ ਖੋਹ ਲਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਰਸ਼ੁਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ (ਜਮਦਗਨਿ) ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਤਿਸੀਬੈਰਕੀਨੇਸਬੈਭੂਪਪਾਤੰ॥੭॥
ਉਸੇ ਵੈਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਪਰਸ਼ੁਰਾਮ ਨੇ) ਸਾਰਿਆਂ (ਛਤਰੀ) ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ (ਇੱਕੀ ਵਾਰ) ਨਾਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੭॥
Ultimately, he snatched away the cow and killed Yamadagni and in order to wreak his vengeance, Parashurama destroyed all the Kshatriya kings.7.
ਗਈਬਾਲਤਾਤੇਲੀਯੋਸੋਧਤਾਕੋ॥
ਇਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜਮਦਗਨਿ ਦੀ) ਪਤਨੀ (ਬਨ ਵਿਚ) ਗਈ ਅਤੇ (ਪਰਸ਼ੁਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ) ਲਭ ਲਿਆ।
ਹਨਿਯੋਤਾਤਮੇਰੋਕਹੋਨਾਮੁਵਾਕੋ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਗੱਲ ਦਸੀ। ਉੱਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਸ਼ੁਰਾਮ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ) ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਦਸੋ। (ਰੇਣੁਕਾ ਨੇ ਨਾਂ ਦਸਿਆ।
Form the very childhood Parashurama had been quite inquisitive in his mind about the identity of the killer of his father
ਸਹੰਸਾਸਤ੍ਰਭੂਪੰਸੁਣਿਯੋਸ੍ਰਉਣਨਾਮੰ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਸ਼ੁਰਾਮ ਨੇ) ਸਹਸ੍ਰਬਾਹੁ ਰਾਜੇ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਿਆ,
ਗਹੇਸਸਤ੍ਰਅਸਤ੍ਰੰਚਲਿਯੋਤਉਨਠਾਮੰ॥੮॥
ਤਾਂ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ-ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਪਕੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਠਿਕਾਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਰ ਪਿਆ ॥੮॥
And when he came to know that it was the king Sahasrabahu, he moved towards his place with his arms and weapons.8.
ਕਹੋਰਾਜਮੇਰੋਹਨਿਯੋਤਾਤਕੈਸੇ॥
(ਉਥੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕੇ ਪਰਸ਼ੁਰਾਮ ਨੇ ਸਹਸ੍ਰਬਾਹੁ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਛਿਆ) "ਹੇ ਰਾਜਨ! ਦਸੋ, (ਤੁਸੀਂ) ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮਾਰਿਆ?
Parashurama said to the king, “O king how hast thou killed my father?
ਅਬੈਜੁਧਜੀਤੋਹਨੋਤੋਹਿਤੈਸੇ॥
ਹੁਣੇ (ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਤਾਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਾਰਾਂਗਾ।
Now I want to wage war with you in order to kill you”
ਕਹਾਮੂੜਬੈਠੋਸੁਅਸਤ੍ਰੰਸੰਭਾਰੋ॥
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ (ਰਾਜੇ)! (ਤੂੰ) ਕਿਸ ਲਈ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈਂ? ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਲ,
ਚਲੋਭਾਜਨਾਤੋਸਬੈਸਸਤ੍ਰਡਾਰੋ॥੯॥
ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਟ ਕੇ ਭਜ ਜਾ" ॥੯॥
He also said, “O fool, hold your weapons, otherwise forsaking them, run away from this place.”9.
ਸੁਣੇਬੋਲਬੰਕੇਭਰਿਯੋਭੂਪਕੋਪੰ॥
(ਪਰਸ਼ੁਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਕੋੜੇ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣੇ, ਤਾਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਗਿਆ
ਉਠਿਯੋਰਾਜਸਰਦੂਲਲੈਪਾਣਿਧੋਪੰ॥
ਅਤੇ ਸਿਧੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਵਾਂਗ ਉਠਿਆ।
Hearing these ironical words, the king was filled with fury and holding his weapons in his hands, got up like a lion.
ਹਠਿਯੋਖੇਤਿਖੂਨੀਦਿਜੰਖੇਤ੍ਰਹਾਯੋ॥
(ਰਾਜਾ) ਹਠ ਕਰਕੇ ਖਲੋ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ (ਹੁਣੋ) ਖੂਨੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਨੂੰ ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ
ਚਹੇਆਜਹੀਜੁਧਮੋਸੋਮਚਾਯੋ॥੧੦॥
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹ ਅਜ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਯੁੱਧ ਮਚਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
He came to the arena of battle with determination, knowing that the Brahmin Parashurama was desirous of fighting with him on the same day.10.
ਧਏਸੂਰਸਰਬੰਸੁਨੇਬੈਨਰਾਜੰ॥
ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਚਲ ਪਏ।
ਚੜਿਯੋਕ੍ਰੁਧਜੁਧੰਸ੍ਰਜੇਸਰਬਸਾਜੰ॥
ਯੁੱਧ ਲਈ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਸਾਜ਼-ਸਾਮਾਨ ਸਜਾ ਲਿਆ।
Hearing the furious words of the king, his warriors in great ire, decorating themselves (with their weapon) marched forward
ਗਦਾਸੈਹਥੀਸੂਲਸੇਲੰਸੰਭਾਰੀ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਗਦਾ, ਸੈਹੱਥੀ, ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ੂਲ ਅਤੇ ਬਰਛੇ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲਏ।
ਚਲੇਜੁਧਕਾਜੰਬਡੇਛਤ੍ਰਧਾਰੀ॥੧੧॥
ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਛਤਰਧਾਰੀ (ਯੋਧੇ) ਯੁੱਧ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਚਲੇ ॥੧੧॥
Holding firmly their tridents, lances, maces etc., the great canopied kings moved forward for waging war.11.

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣਪਾਣਧਾਰਿਕੈ॥
ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਫੜ ਕੇ,
ਚਲੇਬਲੀਪੁਕਾਰਿਕੈ॥
ਸੂਰਮੇ ਲਲਕਾਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਚਲ ਪਏ।
Holding their swords in their hands, the mighty warriors marched forward with loud shouts
ਸੁਮਾਰਿਮਾਰਿਭਾਖਹੀ॥
ਉਹ 'ਮਾਰੋ' 'ਮਾਰੋ' ਬੋਲ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ
ਸਰੋਘਸ੍ਰੋਣਚਾਖਹੀ॥੧੨॥
ਅਤੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਤੀਰ ਲਹੂ ਚਖ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ॥੧੨॥
They uttered “kill, kill” and their arrows were drinking blood.12.
ਸੰਜੋਇਸੈਹਥੀਨਲੈ॥
ਕਵਚ (ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਉਤੇ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੈਹੱਥੀਆ ਲੈ ਕੇ,
ਚੜੇਸੁਬੀਰਰੋਸਕੈ॥
ਕ੍ਰੋਧਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਚਲੇ।
Wearing their armour and holding their daggers, the warriors in great ire moved forward.
ਚਟਾਕਚਾਬਕੰਉਠੇ॥
(ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਚਾਬੁਕਾਂ ਚਟਾਖ ਚਟਾਖ ਕਰਨ ਲਗੀਆਂ
ਸਹੰਸ੍ਰਸਾਇਕੰਬੁਠੈ॥੧੩॥
ਅਤੇ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਤੀਰ ਵਰ੍ਹਨ ਲਗੇ ॥੧੩॥
The blows of whips horses produced knocking sounds and thousands of arrows flew out (from the bows).13.
