ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਆਪੁਵੀਚਾਰੀਐਲਗੈਸਚਿਪਿਆਰੁ॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਭੁੱਖ ਤ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Gurmukh reflects on the self, lovingly attached to the True Lord.
ਨਾਨਕਕਿਸਨੋਆਖੀਐਆਪੇਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ॥੧੦॥
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ ਦਾਤ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਅੱਗੇ ਕੁਝ ਕਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
O Nanak, whom can we ask? He Himself is the Great Giver. ||10||

Shalok, Third Mahalaa:
ਬਾਬੀਹਾਏਹੁਜਗਤੁਹੈਮਤਕੋਭਰਮਿਭੁਲਾਇ॥
(ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ ਪਪੀਹਾ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ) ਮਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੁਲੇਖਾ ਖਾ ਜਾਏ, ਪਪੀਹਾ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਹੈ,
This world is a rainbird; let no one be deluded by doubt.
ਇਹੁਬਾਬੀਂਹਾਪਸੂਹੈਇਸਨੋਬੂਝਣੁਨਾਹਿ॥
ਇਹ ਪਪੀਹਾ (-ਜੀਵ) ਪਸ਼ੂ (-ਸੁਭਾਉ) ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ,
This rainbird is an animal; it has no understanding at all.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁਹਰਿਕਾਨਾਮੁਹੈਜਿਤੁਪੀਤੈਤਿਖਜਾਇ॥
(ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਐਸਾ) ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੀਤਿਆਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
The Name of the Lord is Ambrosial Nectar; drinking it in, thirst is quenched.
ਨਾਨਕਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਜਿਨੑਪੀਆਤਿਨੑਬਹੁੜਿਨਲਾਗੀਆਇ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ) ਪੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੀ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, those Gurmukhs who drink it in shall never again be afflicted by thirst. ||1||

Third Mahalaa:
ਮਲਾਰੁਸੀਤਲਰਾਗੁਹੈਹਰਿਧਿਆਇਐਸਾਂਤਿਹੋਇ॥
(ਭਾਵੇਂ) 'ਮਲਾਰ' ਠੰਢਾ ਰਾਗ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਠੰਢ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ), ਪਰ (ਅਸਲ) ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੇ (ਇਸ ਰਾਗ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰੀਏ।
Malaar is a calming and soothing raga; meditating on the Lord brings peace and tranquility.
ਹਰਿਜੀਉਅਪਣੀਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਕਰੇਤਾਂਵਰਤੈਸਭਲੋਇ॥
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਦਇਆ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ (ਇਹ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ) ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਇਉਂ) ਵਰਤੇ,
When the Dear Lord grants His Grace, then the rain falls on all the people of the world.
ਵੁਠੈਜੀਆਜੁਗਤਿਹੋਇਧਰਣੀਨੋਸੀਗਾਰੁਹੋਇ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੀਂਹ ਪਿਆਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੱਤਿਆ) ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਹਰਿਆਵਲ ਰੂਪ ਸੁਹੱਪਣ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
From this rain, all creatures find the ways and means to live, and the earth is embellished.
ਨਾਨਕਇਹੁਜਗਤੁਸਭੁਜਲੁਹੈਜਲਹੀਤੇਸਭਕੋਇ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ) ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ;
O Nanak, this world is all water; everything came from water.
ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦੀਕੋਵਿਰਲਾਬੂਝੈਸੋਜਨੁਮੁਕਤੁਸਦਾਹੋਇ॥੨॥
ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ (ਇਹ ਗੱਲ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
By Guru's Grace, a rare few realize the Lord; such humble beings are liberated forever. ||2||

ਸਚਾਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁਇਕੋਤੂਧਣੀ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ (ਬੇ-ਮੁਥਾਜ) ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ;
O True and Independent Lord God, You alone are my Lord and Master.
ਤੂਸਭੁਕਿਛੁਆਪੇਆਪਿਦੂਜੇਕਿਸੁਗਣੀ॥
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ (ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਨ ਜੋਗਾ) ਹੈਂ, ਕੇਹੜੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਮਿਥਾਂ?
You Yourself are everything; who else is of any account?
ਮਾਣਸਕੂੜਾਗਰਬੁਸਚੀਤੁਧੁਮਣੀ॥
(ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ (ਕੋਈ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ;
False is the pride of man. True is Your glorious greatness.
ਆਵਾਗਉਣੁਰਚਾਇਉਪਾਈਮੇਦਨੀ॥
ਤੂੰ ਹੀ 'ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ' (ਦੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ) ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
Coming and going in reincarnation, the beings and species of the world came into being.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸੇਵੇਆਪਣਾਆਇਆਤਿਸੁਗਣੀ॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕਹੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਉਣਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ।
But if the mortal serves his True Guru, his coming into the world is judged to be worthwhile.
ਜੇਹਉਮੈਵਿਚਹੁਜਾਇਤਕੇਹੀਗਣਤਗਣੀ॥
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਤੌਖ਼ਲੇ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
And if he eradicates egotism from within himself, then how can he be judged?
ਮਨਮੁਖਮੋਹਿਗੁਬਾਰਿਜਿਉਭੁਲਾਮੰਝਿਵਣੀ॥
(ਪਰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੋਹ-ਰੂਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ (ਇਉਂ) ਭਟਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ (ਰਾਹੋਂ) ਭੁੱਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The self-willed manmukh is lost in the darkness of emotional attachment, like the man lost in the wilderness.
ਕਟੇਪਾਪਅਸੰਖਨਾਵੈਇਕਕਣੀ॥੧੧॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ 'ਨਾਮ' ਦਾ ਇਕ ਕਿਣਕਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਾਪ ਕੱਟ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
Countless sins are erased, by even a tiny particle of the Lord's Name. ||11||
ਸਲੋਕਮਃ੩॥
Shalok, Third Mahalaa:
ਬਾਬੀਹਾਖਸਮੈਕਾਮਹਲੁਨਜਾਣਹੀਮਹਲੁਦੇਖਿਅਰਦਾਸਿਪਾਇ॥
ਹੇ (ਜੀਵ) ਪਪੀਹੇ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ (ਤਾਹੀਂਏ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਤੁਰ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ), (ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ) ਘਰ ਵੇਖਣ ਲਈ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰ।
O rainbird, you do not know the Mansion of your Lord and Master's Presence. Offer your prayers to see this Mansion.
ਆਪਣੈਭਾਣੈਬਹੁਤਾਬੋਲਹਿਬੋਲਿਆਥਾਇਨਪਾਇ॥
(ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ (ਮਨ ਦੀ) ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਇਹ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
You speak as you please, but your speech is not accepted.
ਖਸਮੁਵਡਾਦਾਤਾਰੁਹੈਜੋਇਛੇਸੋਫਲਪਾਇ॥
(ਹੇ ਜੀਵ!) ਮਾਲਕ ਬੜੀਆਂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਂ) ਜੋ ਮੰਗੀਏ ਸੋ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Your Lord and Master is the Great Giver; whatever you desire, you shall receive from Him.
ਬਾਬੀਹਾਕਿਆਬਪੁੜਾਜਗਤੈਕੀਤਿਖਜਾਇ॥੧॥
ਇਹ (ਜੀਵ) ਪਪੀਹਾ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਕੀਹ ਹੈ? (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
Not only the thirst of the poor rainbird, but the thirst of the whole world is quenched. ||1||

Third Mahalaa:
ਬਾਬੀਹਾਭਿੰਨੀਰੈਣਿਬੋਲਿਆਸਹਜੇਸਚਿਸੁਭਾਇ॥
(ਜਦੋਂ) (ਜੀਵ-) ਪਪੀਹਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਜੁੜੇ) ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮੌਜ ਨਾਲ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
The night is wet with dew; the rainbird sings the True Name with intuitive ease.
ਇਹੁਜਲੁਮੇਰਾਜੀਉਹੈਜਲਬਿਨੁਰਹਣੁਨਜਾਇ॥
ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਹੈ, 'ਨਾਮ' ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਜੀਊ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ,
This water is my very soul; without water, I cannot survive.
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀਜਲੁਪਾਈਐਵਿਚਹੁਆਪੁਗਵਾਇ॥
(ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, this water is obtained, and egotism is eradicated from within.
ਨਾਨਕਜਿਸੁਬਿਨੁਚਸਾਨਜੀਵਦੀਸੋਸਤਿਗੁਰਿਦੀਆਮਿਲਾਇ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਕ ਪਲਕ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੨॥
O Nanak, I cannot live without Him, even for a moment; the True Guru has led me to meet Him. ||2||
ਪਉੜੀ॥
Pauree:
ਖੰਡਪਤਾਲਅਸੰਖਮੈਗਣਤਨਹੋਈ॥
(ਇਸ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਧਰਤੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਹਨ, ਮੈਥੋਂ ਗਿਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ।
There are countless worlds and nether regions; I cannot calculate their number.
ਤੂਕਰਤਾਗੋਵਿੰਦੁਤੁਧੁਸਿਰਜੀਤੁਧੈਗੋਈ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ (ਇਸ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
You are the Creator, the Lord of the Universe; You create it, and You destroy it.
ਲਖਚਉਰਾਸੀਹਮੇਦਨੀਤੁਝਹੀਤੇਹੋਈ॥
ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੀ ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲਖ ਜੂਨ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
The 8.4 million species of beings issued forth from You.
ਇਕਿਰਾਜੇਖਾਨਮਲੂਕਕਹਹਿਕਹਾਵਹਿਕੋਈ॥
(ਇਥੇ) ਕਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜੇ ਖ਼ਾਨ ਤੇ ਮਲਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਅਖਵਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Some are called kings, emperors and nobles.
ਇਕਿਸਾਹਸਦਾਵਹਿਸੰਚਿਧਨੁਦੂਜੈਪਤਿਖੋਈ॥
ਕਈ ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਸ਼ਾਹ ਸਦਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਪਰ) ਇਸ ਦੂਜੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Some claim to be bankers and accumulate wealth, but in duality they lose their honor.
ਇਕਿਦਾਤੇਇਕਮੰਗਤੇਸਭਨਾਸਿਰਿਸੋਈ॥
ਇਥੇ ਕਈ ਦਾਤੇ ਹਨ ਕਈ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰ ਕੀਹ ਦਾਤੇ ਤੇ ਕੀਹ ਮੰਗਤੇ) ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਖਸਮ ਹੈ।
Some are givers, and some are beggars; God is above the heads of all.
ਵਿਣੁਨਾਵੈਬਾਜਾਰੀਆਭੀਹਾਵਲਿਹੋਈ॥
(ਭਾਵੇਂ ਰਾਜੇ ਸਦਾਣ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਅਖਵਾਣ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਵ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਬਹੁ-ਰੂਪੀਏ ਹਨ (ਧਰਤੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਰ ਨਾਲ) ਭੈ-ਭੀਤ ਹੋਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
Without the Name, they are vulgar, dreadful and wretched.
ਕੂੜਨਿਖੁਟੇਨਾਨਕਾਸਚੁਕਰੇਸੁਹੋਈ॥੧੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹ ਰਾਜੇ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਹੂਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕ) ਕੂੜ ਦੇ ਸੌਦੇ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰਾਜ ਧਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਕੂੜਾ ਹੈ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
Falsehood shall not last, O Nanak; whatever the True Lord does, comes to pass. ||12||

ਹੇ (ਜੀਵ-) ਪਪੀਹੇ! ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਅਉਗਣਿਆਰੀ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਥ ਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
O rainbird, the virtuous soul-bride attains the Mansion of her Lord's Presence; the unworthy, unvirtuous one is far away.
ਅੰਤਰਿਤੇਰੈਹਰਿਵਸੈਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਦਾਹਜੂਰਿ॥
ਹੇ (ਜੀਵ-) ਪਪੀਹੇ! ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਰੱਬ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
Deep within your inner being, the Lord abides. The Gurmukh beholds Him ever-present.
ਕੂਕਪੁਕਾਰਨਹੋਵਈਨਦਰੀਨਦਰਿਨਿਹਾਲ॥
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ) ਕਿਸੇ ਕੂਕ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ, ਮੇਹਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਂਈ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, the mortal no longer weeps and wails.
ਨਾਨਕਨਾਮਿਰਤੇਸਹਜੇਮਿਲੇਸਬਦਿਗੁਰੂਕੈਘਾਲ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਬੰਦੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜ ਕੇ) ਘਾਲ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Naam intuitively merge with the Lord; they practice the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||
