ਸਾਰੰਗਮਹਲਾ੫ਚਉਪਦੇਘਰੁ੫॥
ਰਾਗ ਸਾਰੰਗ, ਘਰ ੫ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਚਾਰ-ਬੰਦਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
Saarang, Fifth Mahalaa, Chau-Padas, Fifth House:
ੴਸਤਿਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਹਰਿਭਜਿਆਨਕਰਮਬਿਕਾਰ॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਭਜਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੰਮ (ਜਿੰਦ ਲਈ) ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹਨ।
Meditate, vibrate on the Lord; other actions are corrupt.
ਮਾਨਮੋਹੁਨਬੁਝਤਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾਕਾਲਗ੍ਰਸਸੰਸਾਰ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
(ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ (ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ), ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਟਦੀ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Pride, attachment and desire are not quenched; the world is in the grip of death. ||1||Pause||
ਖਾਤਪੀਵਤਹਸਤਸੋਵਤਅਉਧਬਿਤੀਅਸਾਰ॥
ਖਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਪੀਂਦਿਆਂ ਹੱਸਦਿਆਂ ਸੁੱਤਿਆਂ (ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਉਮਰ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ ਵਿਚ ਬੀਤਦੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Eating, drinking, laughing and sleeping, life passes uselessly.
ਨਰਕਉਦਰਿਭ੍ਰਮੰਤਜਲਤੋਜਮਹਿਕੀਨੀਸਾਰ॥੧॥
ਨਰਕ ਸਮਾਨ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੂਨ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵ) ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
The mortal wanders in reincarnation, burning in the hellish environment of the womb; in the end, he is destroyed by death. ||1||
ਪਰਦ੍ਰੋਹਕਰਤਬਿਕਾਰਨਿੰਦਾਪਾਪਰਤਕਰਝਾਰ॥
(ਭਜਨ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਠੱਗੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਿੰਦਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਕੁਕਰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬੇ-ਪਰਵਾਹ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He practices fraud, cruelty and slander against others; he sins, and washes his hands.
ਬਿਨਾਸਤਿਗੁਰਬੂਝਨਾਹੀਤਮਮੋਹਮਹਾਂਅੰਧਾਰ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ, ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੜੇ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
Without the True Guru, he has no understanding; he is lost in the utter darkness of anger and attachment. ||2||
ਬਿਖੁਠਗਉਰੀਖਾਇਮੂਠੋਚਿਤਿਨਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰ॥
ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ-ਠਗ-ਬੂਟੀ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਤਮਕ ਸਰਮਾਏ ਵਲੋਂ) ਲੁੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
He takes the intoxicating drugs of cruelty and corruption, and is plundered. He is not conscious of the Creator Lord God.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦਗੁਪਤਹੋਇਰਹਿਓਨਿਆਰੋਮਾਤੰਗਮਤਿਅਹੰਕਾਰ॥੩॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹਾਥੀ ਵਾਂਗ (ਫੁੱਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਛੁਪਿਆ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
The Lord of the Universe is hidden and unattached. The mortal is like a wild elephant, intoxicated with the wine of egotism. ||3||
ਕਰਿਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਪ੍ਰਭਸੰਤਰਾਖੇਚਰਨਕਮਲਅਧਾਰ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ (ਇਸ 'ਬਿਖੁ ਠਗਉਰੀ' ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
In His Mercy, God saves His Saints; they have the Support of His Lotus Feet.
ਕਰਜੋਰਿਨਾਨਕੁਸਰਨਿਆਇਓਗੋੁਪਾਲਪੁਰਖਅਪਾਰ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨੯॥
ਹੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ! ਹੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ! ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ! ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੇਰੀ) ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ) ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨੯॥
With his palms pressed together, Nanak has come to the Sanctuary of the Primal Being, the Infinite Lord God. ||4||1||129||
ਸਾਰਗਮਹਲਾ੫ਘਰੁ੬ਪੜਤਾਲ॥
ਰਾਗ ਸਾਰੰਗ, ਘਰ ੬ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ 'ਪੜਤਾਲ'।

ੴਸਤਿਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਸੁਭਬਚਨਬੋਲਿਗੁਨਅਮੋਲ॥
(ਹੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਗੁਣ (ਸਭ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਸੁਭ ਬਚਨ ਹਨ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ।
Chant His Sublime Word and His Priceless Glories.
ਕਿੰਕਰੀਬਿਕਾਰ॥
ਹੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ (ਹੋ ਚੁਕੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ)!
Why are you indulging in corrupt actions?
ਦੇਖੁਰੀਬੀਚਾਰ॥
ਹੋਸ਼ ਕਰ (ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ)।
Look at this, see and understand!
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਧਿਆਇਮਹਲੁਪਾਇ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖ (ਤੇ, ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ।
Meditate on the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and attain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence.
ਹਰਿਸੰਗਿਰੰਗਕਰਤੀਮਹਾਕੇਲ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
(ਜਿਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਬੜੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Imbued with the Love of the Lord, you shall totally play with Him. ||1||Pause||
ਸੁਪਨਰੀਸੰਸਾਰੁ॥
(ਹੇ ਸਖੀ!) ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ,
The world is a dream.
ਮਿਥਨੀਬਿਸਥਾਰੁ॥
(ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ) ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ।
Its expanse is false.
ਸਖੀਕਾਇਮੋਹਿਮੋਹਿਲੀਪ੍ਰਿਅਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਰਿਦੈਮੇਲ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਉਂ ਫਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈਂ? ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖ ॥੧॥
O my companion, why are you so enticed by the Enticer? Enshrine the Love of Your Beloved within your heart. ||1||
ਸਰਬਰੀਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਪਿਆਰੁ॥
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He is total love and affection.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁਸਦਾਰੀਦਇਆਰੁ॥
ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈ।
God is always merciful.
ਕਾਂਏਂਆਨਆਨਰੁਚੀਐ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।
Others - why are you involved with others?
ਹਰਿਸੰਗਿਸੰਗਿਖਚੀਐ॥
ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
Remain involved with the Lord.
ਜਉਸਾਧਸੰਗਪਾਏ॥
ਜਦੋਂ (ਕੋਈ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
When you join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy,
ਕਹੁਨਾਨਕਹਰਿਧਿਆਏ॥
ਅਤੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
says Nanak, meditate on the Lord.
ਅਬਰਹੇਜਮਹਿਮੇਲ॥੨॥੧॥੧੩੦॥
ਤਦੋਂ ਜਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੩੦॥
Now, your association with death is ended. ||2||1||130||
ਸਾਰਗਮਹਲਾ੫॥
Saarang, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਕੰਚਨਾਬਹੁਦਤਕਰਾ॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੋਨਾ ਦਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
You may make donations of gold,
ਭੂਮਿਦਾਨੁਅਰਪਿਧਰਾ॥
ਭੁਇਂ ਮਣਸ ਕੇ ਦਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
and give away land in charity
ਮਨਅਨਿਕਸੋਚਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਕਰਤ॥
ਕਈ ਸੁੱਚਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ) ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
and purify your mind in various ways,
ਨਾਹੀਰੇਨਾਮਤੁਲਿਮਨਚਰਨਕਮਲਲਾਗੇ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
(ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
but none of this is equal to the Lord's Name. Remain attached to the Lord's Lotus Feet. ||1||Pause||
ਚਾਰਿਬੇਦਜਿਹਵਭਨੇ॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
You may recite the four Vedas with your tongue,
ਦਸਅਸਟਖਸਟਸ੍ਰਵਨਸੁਨੇ॥
ਅਠਾਰਾਂ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਛੇ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
and listen to the eighteen Puraanas and the six Shaastras with your ears,
ਨਹੀਤੁਲਿਗੋਬਿਦਨਾਮਧੁਨੇ॥
(ਇਹ ਕੰਮ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।
but these are not equal to the celestial melody of the Naam, the Name of the Lord of the Universe.
ਮਨਚਰਨਕਮਲਲਾਗੇ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖ ॥੧॥
Remain attached to the Lord's Lotus Feet. ||1||
ਬਰਤਸੰਧਿਸੋਚਚਾਰ॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਵਰਤ, ਸੰਧਿਆ, ਸਰੀਰਕ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰਤਾ,
You may observe fasts, and say your prayers, purify yourself
ਕ੍ਰਿਆਕੁੰਟਿਨਿਰਾਹਾਰ॥
(ਤੀਰਥ-ਜਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਲਈ) ਚਾਰ ਕੂਟਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭੁੱਖੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਭੌਂਦੇ ਫਿਰਨਾ,
and do good deeds; you may go on pilgrimages everywhere and eat nothing at all.
ਅਪਰਸਕਰਤਪਾਕਸਾਰ॥
ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਛੁਹਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਸੋਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਨੀ,
You may cook your food without touching anyone;
ਨਿਵਲੀਕਰਮਬਹੁਬਿਸਥਾਰ॥
(ਆਂਦਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੱਭਿਆਸ) ਨਿਵਲੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨਾ, ਹੋਰ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਕਈ ਖਿਲਾਰੇ ਖਿਲਾਰਨੇ,
you may make a great show of cleansing techniques,
ਧੂਪਦੀਪਕਰਤੇਹਰਿਨਾਮਤੁਲਿਨਲਾਗੇ॥
(ਦੇਵ-ਪੂਜਾ ਲਈ) ਧੂਪ ਧੁਖਾਣੇ ਦੀਵੇ ਜਗਾਣੇ-ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਉੱਦਮ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ।
and burn incense and devotional lamps, but none of these are equal to the Lord's Name.
ਰਾਮਦਇਆਰਸੁਨਿਦੀਨਬੇਨਤੀ॥
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੀ ਗਰੀਬ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ!
O Merciful Lord, please hear the prayer of the meek and the poor.
ਦੇਹੁਦਰਸੁਨੈਨਪੇਖਉਜਨਨਾਨਕਨਾਮਮਿਸਟਲਾਗੇ॥੨॥੨॥੧੩੧॥
ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇਹ, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਸਦਾ) ਵੇਖਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਰਹੇ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੩੧॥
Please grant me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, that I may see You with my eyes. The Naam is so sweet to servant Nanak. ||2||2||131||

ਰਾਮਰਾਮਰਾਮਜਾਪਿਰਮਤਰਾਮਸਹਾਈ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ) ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਨਾਮ) ਜਪਦਿਆਂ (ਉਹ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Meditate on the Lord, Raam, Raam, Raam. The Lord is your Help and Support. ||1||Pause||
