ਜਾਮਿਨਭੀਜੈਸਾਚਨਾਇ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਿੱਜਦਾ (ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਉੱਦਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
if you are not drenched with the True Name. ||1||Pause||
ਦਸਅਠਲੀਖੇਹੋਵਹਿਪਾਸਿ॥
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਨੇ ਅਠਾਰਾਂ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਲਿਖ ਕੇ ਕੋਲ ਰੱਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਣ,
One may have the eighteen Puraanas written in his own hand;
ਚਾਰੇਬੇਦਮੁਖਾਗਰਪਾਠਿ॥
ਜੇ ਪਾਠ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਪੜ੍ਹੇ,
he may recite the four Vedas by heart,
ਪੁਰਬੀਨਾਵੈਵਰਨਾਂਕੀਦਾਤਿ॥
ਜੇ ਉਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ (ਮਿਥੇ) ਦਿਹਾੜਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਤੀਰਥੀਂ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰੇ, ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਵਖ ਵਖ ਵਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਨ-ਪੁੰਨ ਕਰੇ,
and take ritual baths at holy festivals and give charitable donations;
ਵਰਤਨੇਮਕਰੇਦਿਨਰਾਤਿ॥੨॥
ਜੇ ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਰਹੇ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਨਿਯਮ ਨਿਬਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹੇ (ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਕੋਈ ਉੱਦਮ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ) ॥੨॥
he may observe the ritual fasts, and perform religious ceremonies day and night. ||2||
ਕਾਜੀਮੁਲਾਂਹੋਵਹਿਸੇਖ॥
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਬੰਦੇ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ ਸ਼ੇਖ਼ ਬਣ ਜਾਣ,
He may be a Qazi, a Mullah or a Shaykh,
ਜੋਗੀਜੰਗਮਭਗਵੇਭੇਖ॥
ਕੋਈ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਭਗਵੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਨ ਲੈਣ,
a Yogi or a wandering hermit wearing saffron-colored robes;
ਕੋਗਿਰਹੀਕਰਮਾਕੀਸੰਧਿ॥
ਕੋਈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਮ-ਕਾਂਡੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ-
he may be a householder, working at his job;
ਬਿਨੁਬੂਝੇਸਭਖੜੀਅਸਿਬੰਧਿ॥੩॥
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੋਸੀਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਇਗਾ, ਜਦ ਤਕ ਉਹ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ, (ਜਦ ਤਕ ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਤੀਜਦਾ) ॥੩॥
but without understanding the essence of devotional worship, all people are eventually bound and gagged, and driven along by the Messenger of Death. ||3||
ਜੇਤੇਜੀਅਲਿਖੀਸਿਰਿਕਾਰ॥
(ਅਸਲ ਗੱਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਹਨ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਇਹੀ ਹੁਕਮ-ਰੂਪ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
Each person's karma is written on his forehead.
ਕਰਣੀਉਪਰਿਹੋਵਗਿਸਾਰ॥
ਕਿ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬੀ ਦਾ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
According to their deeds, they shall be judged.
ਹੁਕਮੁਕਰਹਿਮੂਰਖਗਾਵਾਰ॥
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਸੁੱਚੇ ਕਰਮ-ਕਾਂਡ ਭੇਖ ਆਦਿਕ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਵੱਡੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਨ।
Only the foolish and the ignorant issue commands.
ਨਾਨਕਸਾਚੇਕੇਸਿਫਤਿਭੰਡਾਰ॥੪॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੋ। ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਕਰਣੀ) ॥੪॥੩॥
O Nanak, the treasure of praise belongs to the True Lord alone. ||4||3||
ਬਸੰਤੁਮਹਲਾ੩ਤੀਜਾ॥
Basant, Third Mahalaa:
ਬਸਤ੍ਰਉਤਾਰਿਦਿਗੰਬਰੁਹੋਗੁ॥
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਉਤਾਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਂਗਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਬਣ ਜਾਏ (ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਉੱਦਮ ਹੈ)।
A person may take off his clothes and be naked.
ਜਟਾਧਾਰਿਕਿਆਕਮਾਵੈਜੋਗੁ॥
ਜਟਾ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਜੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਮਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੋਗ (ਮੇਲ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੇਗਾ)।
What Yoga does he practice by having matted and tangled hair?
ਮਨੁਨਿਰਮਲੁਨਹੀਦਸਵੈਦੁਆਰ॥
ਦਸਵੇਂ ਦੁਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਇਆਂ ਭੀ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
If the mind is not pure, what use is it to hold the breath at the Tenth Gate?
ਭ੍ਰਮਿਭ੍ਰਮਿਆਵੈਮੂੜੑਾਵਾਰੋਵਾਰ॥੧॥
(ਅਜੇਹੇ ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ਮੂਰਖ ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
The fool wanders and wanders, entering the cycle of reincarnation again and again. ||1||
ਏਕੁਧਿਆਵਹੁਮੂੜੑਮਨਾ॥
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ! ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ।
Meditate on the One Lord, O my foolish mind,
ਪਾਰਿਉਤਰਿਜਾਹਿਇਕਖਿਨਾਂ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
(ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਇਕ ਪਲ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਹਿਂਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
and you shall cross over to the other side in an instant. ||1||Pause||
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿਸਾਸਤ੍ਰਕਰਹਿਵਖਿਆਣ॥
(ਪੰਡਿਤ ਲੋਕ) ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ) ਸੁਣਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Some recite and expound on the Simritees and the Shaastras;
ਨਾਦੀਬੇਦੀਪੜੑਹਿਪੁਰਾਣ॥
ਜੋਗੀ ਨਾਦ ਵਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪੰਡਿਤ ਵੇਦ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕੋਈ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ,
some sing the Vedas and read the Puraanas;
ਪਾਖੰਡਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਮਨਿਕਪਟੁਕਮਾਹਿ॥
ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਪਖੰਡ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਖੋਟ ਕਮਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
but they practice hypocrisy and deception with their eyes and minds.
ਤਿਨਕੈਰਮਈਆਨੇੜਿਨਾਹਿ॥੨॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ (ਢੁਕਦਾ) ॥੨॥
The Lord does not even come near them. ||2||
ਜੇਕੋਐਸਾਸੰਜਮੀਹੋਇ॥
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਭੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ,
Even if someone practices such self-discipline,
ਕ੍ਰਿਆਵਿਸੇਖਪੂਜਾਕਰੇਇ॥
ਕਿਸੇ ਉਚੇਚੀ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਦੇਵ-ਪੂਜਾ ਭੀ ਕਰੇ,
compassion and devotional worship
ਅੰਤਰਿਲੋਭੁਮਨੁਬਿਖਿਆਮਾਹਿ॥
ਪਰ ਜੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੋਭ ਹੈ, ਜੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ,
- if he is filled with greed, and his mind is engrossed in corruption,
ਓਇਨਿਰੰਜਨੁਕੈਸੇਪਾਹਿ॥੩॥
ਤਾਂ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ॥੩॥
how can he find the Immaculate Lord? ||3||
ਕੀਤਾਹੋਆਕਰੇਕਿਆਹੋਇ॥
(ਪਰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
What can the created being do?
ਜਿਸਨੋਆਪਿਚਲਾਏਸੋਇ॥
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਪੰਧ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੋਰਿਆ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ ਜੀਵ ਉਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ ਅਖ਼ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The Lord Himself moves him.
ਨਦਰਿਕਰੇਤਾਂਭਰਮੁਚੁਕਾਏ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ (ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ) ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
If the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, then his doubts are dispelled.
ਹੁਕਮੈਬੂਝੈਤਾਂਸਾਚਾਪਾਏ॥੪॥
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
If the mortal realizes the Hukam of the Lord's Command, he obtains the True Lord. ||4||
ਜਿਸੁਜੀਉਅੰਤਰੁਮੈਲਾਹੋਇ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਰਲਾ ਆਤਮਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
If someone's soul is polluted within,
ਤੀਰਥਭਵੈਦਿਸੰਤਰਲੋਇ॥
ਉਹ ਜੇ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਭੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਦੇਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ (ਵਿਰਕਤ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ) ਤੁਰਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਟੁੱਟਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ)।
what is the use of his traveling to sacred shrines of pilgrimage all over the world?
ਨਾਨਕਮਿਲੀਐਸਤਿਗੁਰਸੰਗ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
O Nanak, when one joins the Society of the True Guru,
ਤਉਭਵਜਲਕੇਤੂਟਸਿਬੰਧ॥੫॥੪॥
ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਟੁੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੫॥੪॥
then the bonds of the terrifying world-ocean are broken. ||5||4||
ਬਸੰਤੁਮਹਲਾ੧॥
Basant, First Mahalaa:
ਸਗਲਭਵਨਤੇਰੀਮਾਇਆਮੋਹ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੇ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਤੇਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਹੈ।
All the worlds have been fascinated and enchanted by Your Maya, O Lord.
ਮੈਅਵਰੁਨਦੀਸੈਸਰਬਤੋਹ॥
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ, ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੈ।
I do not see any other at all - You are everywhere.
ਤੂਸੁਰਿਨਾਥਾਦੇਵਾਦੇਵ॥
ਤੂੰ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਹੈਂ।
You are the Master of Yogis, the Divinity of the divine.
ਹਰਿਨਾਮੁਮਿਲੈਗੁਰਚਰਨਸੇਵ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
Serving at the Guru's Feet, the Name of the Lord is received. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇਸੁੰਦਰਗਹਿਰਗੰਭੀਰਲਾਲ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲਾਲ! ਹੇ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!
O my Beauteous, Deep and Profound Beloved Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਰਾਮਨਾਮਗੁਨਗਾਏਤੂਅਪਰੰਪਰੁਸਰਬਪਾਲ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਬੜਾ ਹੀ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈਂ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
As Gurmukh, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name. You are Infinite, the Cherisher of all. ||1||Pause||
ਬਿਨੁਸਾਧਨਪਾਈਐਹਰਿਕਾਸੰਗੁ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ,
Without the Holy Saint, association with the Lord is not obtained.
ਬਿਨੁਗੁਰਮੈਲਮਲੀਨਅੰਗੁ॥
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਨਾਲ ਗੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Without the Guru, one's very fiber is stained with filth.
ਬਿਨੁਹਰਿਨਾਮਨਸੁਧੁਹੋਇ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
Without the Lord's Name, one cannot become pure.
ਗੁਰਸਬਦਿਸਲਾਹੇਸਾਚੁਸੋਇ॥੨॥
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, sing the Praises of the True Lord. ||2||
ਜਾਕਉਤੂਰਾਖਹਿਰਖਨਹਾਰ॥
ਹੇ ਰੱਖਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
O Savior Lord, that person whom You have saved
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂਮਿਲਾਵਹਿਕਰਹਿਸਾਰ॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
- You lead him to meet the True Guru, and so take care of him.
ਬਿਖੁਹਉਮੈਮਮਤਾਪਰਹਰਾਇ॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਮਲਕੀਅਤਾਂ ਬਣਾਣ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
You take away his poisonous egotism and attachment.
ਸਭਿਦੂਖਬਿਨਾਸੇਰਾਮਰਾਇ॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਰਾਮਰਾਇ! ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
You dispel all his sufferings, O Sovereign Lord God. ||3||
ਊਤਮਗਤਿਮਿਤਿਹਰਿਗੁਨਸਰੀਰ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਉੱਚੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਫ਼ਰਾਖ਼-ਦਿਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
His state and condition are sublime; the Lord's Glorious Virtues permeate his body.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿਪ੍ਰਗਟੇਰਾਮਨਾਮਹੀਰ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀਰਾ ਚਮਕ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
Through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, the diamond of the Lord's Name is revealed.
ਲਿਵਲਾਗੀਨਾਮਿਤਜਿਦੂਜਾਭਾਉ॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦੀ ਹੈ।
He is lovingly attuned to the Naam; he is rid of the love of duality.
ਜਨਨਾਨਕਹਰਿਗੁਰੁਗੁਰਮਿਲਾਉ॥੪॥੫॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਕਰਾ ਦੇ ॥੪॥੫॥
O Lord, let servant Nanak meet the Guru. ||4||5||

Basant, First Mahalaa:
ਮੇਰੀਸਖੀਸਹੇਲੀਸੁਨਹੁਭਾਇ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ (ਸਤ ਸੰਗਣ) ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ! ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ (ਮੇਰੀ ਗੱਲ) ਸੁਣੋ,
O my friends and companions, listen with love in your heart.
ਮੇਰਾਪਿਰੁਰੀਸਾਲੂਸੰਗਿਸਾਇ॥
(ਕਿ) ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ (ਸੁਹਾਗਣਿ) ਹੈ।
My Husband Lord is Incomparably Beautiful; He is always with me.
ਓਹੁਅਲਖੁਨਲਖੀਐਕਹਹੁਕਾਇ॥
ਉਹ (ਸੋਹਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਬਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਦੱਸੋ (ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ!) ਉਹ (ਫਿਰ) ਕਿਵੇਂ (ਮਿਲੇ)।
He is Unseen - He cannot be seen. How can I describe Him?
