ਹਰਿਚੇਤਹਿਤਿਨਬਲਿਹਾਰੈਜਾਉ॥
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
I am a sacrifice to those who remember the Lord.
ਗੁਰਕੈਸਬਦਿਤਿਨਮੇਲਿਮਿਲਾਉ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I unite in Union with the Lord.
ਤਿਨਕੀਧੂਰਿਲਾਈਮੁਖਿਮਸਤਕਿਸਤਿਸੰਗਤਿਬਹਿਗੁਣਗਾਇਦਾ॥੨॥
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥
I touch the dust of their feet to my face and forehead; sitting in the Society of the Saints, I sing His Glorious Praises. ||2||
ਹਰਿਕੇਗੁਣਗਾਵਾਜੇਹਰਿਪ੍ਰਭਭਾਵਾ॥
ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਗਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਾਂ (ਜੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ)।
I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, as I am pleasing to the Lord God.
ਅੰਤਰਿਹਰਿਨਾਮੁਸਬਦਿਸੁਹਾਵਾ॥
ਜੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
With the Lord's Name deep within my inner being, I am adorned with the Word of the Shabad.
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀਚਹੁਕੁੰਡੀਸੁਣੀਐਸਾਚੈਨਾਮਿਸਮਾਇਦਾ॥੩॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
The Word of the Guru's Bani is heard throughout the four corners of the world; through it, we merge in the True Name. ||3||
ਸੋਜਨੁਸਾਚਾਜਿਅੰਤਰੁਭਾਲੇ॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅਡੋਲ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
That humble being, who searches within himself,
ਗੁਰਕੈਸਬਦਿਹਰਿਨਦਰਿਨਿਹਾਲੇ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, sees the Lord with his eyes.
ਗਿਆਨਅੰਜਨੁਪਾਏਗੁਰਸਬਦੀਨਦਰੀਨਦਰਿਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ॥੪॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦਾ ਸੁਰਮਾ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਿਹਰ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
Through the Guru's Shabad, he applies the ointment of spiritual wisdom to his eyes; the Gracious Lord, in His Grace, unites him with Himself. ||4||
ਵਡੈਭਾਗਿਇਹੁਸਰੀਰੁਪਾਇਆ॥
ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਬੜੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
By great good fortune, I obtained this body;
ਮਾਣਸਜਨਮਿਸਬਦਿਚਿਤੁਲਾਇਆ॥
(ਪਰ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਾਣੋ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ (ਆ ਕੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਜੋੜਿਆ।
in this human life, I have focused my consciousness on the Word of the Shabad.
ਬਿਨੁਸਬਦੈਸਭੁਅੰਧਅੰਧੇਰਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਕਿਸਹਿਬੁਝਾਇਦਾ॥੫॥
ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
Without the Shabad, everything is enveloped in utter darkness; only the Gurmukh understands. ||5||
ਇਕਿਕਿਤੁਆਏਜਨਮੁਗਵਾਏ॥
ਕਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਆਏ (ਜਾਣੋ)
Some merely waste away their lives - why have they even come into the world?
ਮਨਮੁਖਲਾਗੇਦੂਜੈਭਾਏ॥
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੱਗੇ ਰਹੇ।
The self-willed manmukhs are attached to the love of duality.
ਏਹਵੇਲਾਫਿਰਿਹਾਥਿਨਆਵੈਪਗਿਖਿਸਿਐਪਛੁਤਾਇਦਾ॥੬॥
ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਹ ਸਮਾ ਫਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ) ਮੌਤ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
This opportunity shall not come into their hands again; their feet slip, and they come to regret and repent. ||6||
ਗੁਰਕੈਸਬਦਿਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁਸਰੀਰਾ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਸਰੀਰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the body is sanctified.
ਤਿਸੁਵਿਚਿਵਸੈਸਚੁਗੁਣੀਗਹੀਰਾ॥
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਵੱਡੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
The True Lord, the ocean of virtue, dwells within it.
ਸਚੋਸਚੁਵੇਖੈਸਭਥਾਈਸਚੁਸੁਣਿਮੰਨਿਵਸਾਇਦਾ॥੭॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਫਿਰ) ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
One who sees the Truest of the True everywhere, hears the Truth, and enshrines it within his mind. ||7||
ਹਉਮੈਗਣਤਗੁਰਸਬਦਿਨਿਵਾਰੇ॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀਆਂ ਗਿਣਤੀਆਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਹੀ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
Egotism and mental calculations are relieved through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਹਰਿਜੀਉਹਿਰਦੈਰਖਹੁਉਰਧਾਰੇ॥
(ਤਾਂ ਤੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖੋ।
Keep the Dear Lord close, and enshrine Him in your heart.
ਗੁਰਕੈਸਬਦਿਸਦਾਸਾਲਾਹੇਮਿਲਿਸਾਚੇਸੁਖੁਪਾਇਦਾ॥੮॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
One who praises the Lord forever, through the Guru's Shabad, meets with the True Lord, and finds peace. ||8||
ਸੋਚੇਤੇਜਿਸੁਆਪਿਚੇਤਾਏ॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਹੀ) ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He alone remembers the Lord, whom the Lord inspires to remember.
ਗੁਰਕੈਸਬਦਿਵਸੈਮਨਿਆਏ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He comes to dwell in the mind.
ਆਪੇਵੇਖੈਆਪੇਬੂਝੈਆਪੈਆਪੁਸਮਾਇਦਾ॥੯॥
(ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਕੰਮ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ (ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
He Himself sees, and He Himself understands; He merges all into Himself. ||9||
ਜਿਨਿਮਨਵਿਚਿਵਥੁਪਾਈਸੋਈਜਾਣੈ॥
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਜਿਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
He alone knows, who has placed the object within his mind.
ਗੁਰਕੈਸਬਦੇਆਪੁਪਛਾਣੈ॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he comes to understand himself.
ਆਪੁਪਛਾਣੈਸੋਈਜਨੁਨਿਰਮਲੁਬਾਣੀਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਾਇਦਾ॥੧੦॥
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ ਫਿਰ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
That humble being who understands himself is immaculate. He proclaims the Guru's Bani, and the Word of the Shabad. ||10||
ਏਹਕਾਇਆਪਵਿਤੁਹੈਸਰੀਰੁ॥
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਕੇ) ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
This body is sanctified and purified;
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀਚੇਤੈਗੁਣੀਗਹੀਰੁ॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, it contemplates the Lord, the ocean of virtue.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁਗੁਣਗਾਵੈਰੰਗਿਰਾਤਾਗੁਣਕਹਿਗੁਣੀਸਮਾਇਦਾ॥੧੧॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
One who chants the Glorious Praises of the Lord night and day, and remains attuned to His Love, chants His Glorious Virtues, immersed in the Glorious Lord. ||11||
ਏਹੁਸਰੀਰੁਸਭਮੂਲੁਹੈਮਾਇਆ॥
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਿਰਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
This body is the source of all Maya;
ਦੂਜੈਭਾਇਭਰਮਿਭੁਲਾਇਆ॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
in love with duality, it is deluded by doubt.
ਹਰਿਨਚੇਤੈਸਦਾਦੁਖੁਪਾਏਬਿਨੁਹਰਿਚੇਤੇਦੁਖੁਪਾਇਦਾ॥੧੨॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਹ ਪੱਕੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
It does not remember the Lord, and suffers in eternal pain. Without remembering the Lord, it suffers in pain. ||12||
ਜਿਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸੇਵੇਸੋਪਰਵਾਣੁ॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ-ਜੋਗ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
One who serves the True Guru is approved and respected.
ਕਾਇਆਹੰਸੁਨਿਰਮਲੁਦਰਿਸਚੈਜਾਣੁ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਜਾਣੂ-ਪਛਾਣੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸਤਕਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
His body and soul-swan are immaculate and pure; in the Court of the Lord, he is known to be true.
ਹਰਿਸੇਵੇਹਰਿਮੰਨਿਵਸਾਏਸੋਹੈਹਰਿਗੁਣਗਾਇਦਾ॥੧੩॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
He serves the Lord, and enshrines the Lord in his mind; he is exalted, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||13||
ਬਿਨੁਭਾਗਾਗੁਰੁਸੇਵਿਆਨਜਾਇ॥
ਪਰ, ਕਿਸਮਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
Without good destiny, no one can serve the True Guru.
ਮਨਮੁਖਭੂਲੇਮੁਏਬਿਲਲਾਇ॥
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਬੜੇ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
The self-willed manmukhs are deluded, and die weeping and wailing.
ਜਿਨਕਉਨਦਰਿਹੋਵੈਗੁਰਕੇਰੀਹਰਿਜੀਉਆਪਿਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ॥੧੪॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ (ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
Those who are blessed by the Guru's Glance of Grace - the Dear Lord unites them with Himself. ||14||
ਕਾਇਆਕੋਟੁਪਕੇਹਟਨਾਲੇ॥
(ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਸਰੀਰ (ਇਕ ਐਸਾ) ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ (ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ) ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ) ਬਾਜ਼ਾਰ (ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਤੇ) ਅਡੋਲ (ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ) ਹਨ,
In the body fortress, are the solidly-constructed markets.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਲੇਵੈਵਸਤੁਸਮਾਲੇ॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਨਾਮ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਸਾਂਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Gurmukh purchases the object, and takes care of it.
ਹਰਿਕਾਨਾਮੁਧਿਆਇਦਿਨੁਰਾਤੀਊਤਮਪਦਵੀਪਾਇਦਾ॥੧੫॥
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥
Meditating on the Name of the Lord, day and night, he attains the sublime, exalted status. ||15||
ਆਪੇਸਚਾਹੈਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
The True Lord Himself is the Giver of peace.
ਪੂਰੇਗੁਰਕੈਸਬਦਿਪਛਾਤਾ॥
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
Through the Shabad of the Perfect Guru, He is realized.
ਨਾਨਕਨਾਮੁਸਲਾਹੇਸਾਚਾਪੂਰੈਭਾਗਿਕੋਪਾਇਦਾ॥੧੬॥੭॥੨੧॥
ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਦਾਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥੭॥੨੧॥
Nanak praises the Naam, the True Name of the Lord; through perfect destiny, He is found. ||16||7||21||
