Maaroo, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਜੀਵਨਾਸਫਲਜੀਵਨਸੁਨਿਹਰਿਜਪਿਜਪਿਸਦਜੀਵਨਾ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਜੀਊਣ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਜੀਊਣਾ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Fruitful is the life, the life of one who hears about the Lord, and chants and meditates on Him; he lives forever. ||1||Pause||
ਪੀਵਨਾਜਿਤੁਮਨੁਆਘਾਵੈਨਾਮੁਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਸੁਪੀਵਨਾ॥੧॥
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਪੀਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਪੀਣ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
The real drink is that which satisfies the mind; this drink is the sublime essence of the Ambrosial Naam. ||1||
ਖਾਵਨਾਜਿਤੁਭੂਖਨਲਾਗੈਸੰਤੋਖਿਸਦਾਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਵਨਾ॥੨॥
ਨਾਮ-ਭੋਜਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਬਣਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੀ, ਸੰਤੋਖ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਰੱਜੇ ਰਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
The real food is that which will never leave you hungry again; it will leave you contented and satisfied forever. ||2||
ਪੈਨਣਾਰਖੁਪਤਿਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਫਿਰਿਨਾਗੇਨਹੀਥੀਵਨਾ॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਪਤੀ-ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਕੱਪੜਾ ਹੀ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੱਖ, ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਸਿਰੋਂ ਨੰਗੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
The real clothes are those which protect your honor before the Transcendent Lord, and do not leave you naked ever again. ||3||
ਭੋਗਨਾਮਨਮਧੇਹਰਿਰਸੁਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿਮਹਿਲੀਵਨਾ॥੪॥
ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਾਣਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਹੀ ਪੀਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
The real enjoyment within the mind is to be absorbed in the sublime essence of the Lord, in the Society of the Saints. ||4||
ਬਿਨੁਤਾਗੇਬਿਨੁਸੂਈਆਨੀਮਨੁਹਰਿਭਗਤੀਸੰਗਿਸੀਵਨਾ॥੫॥
(ਕਿਸੇ ਸੂਈ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ, ਕਿਸੇ ਧਾਗੇ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ; ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਰਹੀਏ) ਬਿਨਾ ਸੂਈ ਧਾਗਾ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
Sew devotional worship to the Lord into the mind, without any needle or thread. ||5||
ਮਾਤਿਆਹਰਿਰਸਮਹਿਰਾਤੇਤਿਸੁਬਹੁੜਿਨਕਬਹੂਅਉਖੀਵਨਾ॥੬॥
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਅਸਲ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹਨ; ਇਹ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਮੁੜ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਘਟਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੬॥
Imbued and intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord, this experience will never wear off again. ||6||
ਮਿਲਿਓਤਿਸੁਸਰਬਨਿਧਾਨਾਪ੍ਰਭਿਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿਜਿਸੁਦੀਵਨਾ॥੭॥
ਪਰ, ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ- ਦਾਤ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ॥੭॥
One is blessed with all treasures, when God, in His Mercy, gives them. ||7||
ਸੁਖੁਨਾਨਕਸੰਤਨਕੀਸੇਵਾਚਰਣਸੰਤਧੋਇਪੀਵਨਾ॥੮॥੩॥੬॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਸਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਪੀਣ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਗ਼ਰੀਬੀ-ਭਾਵ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਹੈ) ॥੮॥੩॥੬॥
O Nanak, service to the Saints brings peace; I drink in the wash water of the feet of the Saints. ||8||3||6||
ਮਾਰੂਮਹਲਾ੫ਘਰੁ੮ਅੰਜੁਲੀਆ॥
ਰਾਗ ਮਾਰੂ, ਘਰ ੮ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ 'ਅੰਜੁਲੀਆਂ'।

ੴਸਤਿਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਜਿਸੁਗ੍ਰਿਹਿਬਹੁਤੁਤਿਸੈਗ੍ਰਿਹਿਚਿੰਤਾ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਚਿੰਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਕਿਤੇ ਖੁੱਸ ਨਾਹ ਜਾਏ)।
The household which is filled with abundance - that household suffers anxiety.
ਜਿਸੁਗ੍ਰਿਹਿਥੋਰੀਸੁਫਿਰੈਭ੍ਰਮੰਤਾ॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਥੋੜੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
One whose household has little, wanders around searching for more.
ਦੁਹੂਬਿਵਸਥਾਤੇਜੋਮੁਕਤਾਸੋਈਸੁਹੇਲਾਭਾਲੀਐ॥੧॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਹਾਲਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੌਖਾ ਵੇਖੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
He alone is happy and at peace, who is liberated from both conditions. ||1||
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਰਾਜਮਹਿਨਰਕੁਉਦਾਸਕਰੋਧਾ॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਦੇ ਐਸ਼੍ਵਰਜ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ) ਨਰਕ (ਭੋਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ); ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਦੇ ਜੰਜਾਲਾਂ ਦਾ) ਤਿਆਗ ਕਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
Householders and kings fall into hell, along with renunciates and angry men,
ਬਹੁਬਿਧਿਬੇਦਪਾਠਸਭਿਸੋਧਾ॥
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ-ਪਾਠ ਸੋਧੇ ਹੋਣ।
and all those who study and recite the Vedas in so many ways.
ਦੇਹੀਮਹਿਜੋਰਹੈਅਲਿਪਤਾਤਿਸੁਜਨਕੀਪੂਰਨਘਾਲੀਐ॥੨॥
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਕਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
Perfect is the work of that humble servant, who remains unattached while in the body. ||2||
ਜਾਗਤਸੂਤਾਭਰਮਿਵਿਗੂਤਾ॥
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬੱਝਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਜਾਗਦਾ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The mortal sleeps, even while he is awake; he is being plundered by doubt.
ਬਿਨੁਗੁਰਮੁਕਤਿਨਹੋਈਐਮੀਤਾ॥
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
Without the Guru, liberation is not obtained, friend.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਤੁਟਹਿਹਉਬੰਧਨਏਕੋਏਕੁਨਿਹਾਲੀਐ॥੩॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the bonds of egotism are released, and one comes to behold the One and only Lord. ||3||
ਕਰਮਕਰੈਤਬੰਧਾਨਹਕਰੈਤਨਿੰਦਾ॥
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਜਕੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਜੇ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਹ ਕਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਤਾਂ ਕਰਮ-ਕਾਂਡੀ ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Doing deeds, one is placed in bondage; but if he does not act, he is slandered.
ਮੋਹਮਗਨਮਨੁਵਿਆਪਿਆਚਿੰਦਾ॥
ਸੋ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਨੱਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Intoxicated with emotional attachment, the mind is afflicted with anxiety.
ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿਸੁਖੁਦੁਖੁਸਮਜਾਣੈਘਟਿਘਟਿਰਾਮੁਹਿਆਲੀਐ॥੪॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਖ ਅਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
One who looks alike upon pleasure and pain, by Guru's Grace, sees the Lord in each and every heart. ||4||
ਸੰਸਾਰੈਮਹਿਸਹਸਾਬਿਆਪੈ॥
ਜਗਤ (ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ) ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਕੋਈ) ਸਹਮ ਨੱਪੀ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ;
Within the world, one is afflicted by skepticism;
ਅਕਥਕਥਾਅਗੋਚਰਨਹੀਜਾਪੈ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਕੱਥ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁੱਝਦੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
he does not know the imperceptible Unspoken Speech of the Lord.
ਜਿਸਹਿਬੁਝਾਏਸੋਈਬੂਝੈਓਹੁਬਾਲਕਵਾਗੀਪਾਲੀਐ॥੫॥
(ਪਰ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਬੱਚੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
He alone understands, whom the Lord inspires to understand. The Lord cherishes him as His child. ||5||
ਛੋਡਿਬਹੈਤਉਛੂਟੈਨਾਹੀ॥
(ਜਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਛੱਡ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ (ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ।
He may try to abandon Maya, but he is not released.
ਜਉਸੰਚੈਤਉਭਉਮਨਮਾਹੀ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ (ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਡਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਕਿਤੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਚਲੀ ਨਾਹ ਜਾਏ)।
If he collects things, then his mind is afraid of losing them.
ਇਸਹੀਮਹਿਜਿਸਕੀਪਤਿਰਾਖੈਤਿਸੁਸਾਧੂਚਉਰੁਢਾਲੀਐ॥੬॥
ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਚੰਵਰ ਝੁਲਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
I wave the fly-brush over that holy person, whose honor is protected in the midst of Maya. ||6||
ਜੋਸੂਰਾਤਿਸਹੀਹੋਇਮਰਣਾ॥
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮਤਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ;
He alone is a warrior hero, who remains dead to the world.
ਜੋਭਾਗੈਤਿਸੁਜੋਨੀਫਿਰਣਾ॥
ਪਰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ) ਭਾਂਜ ਖਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
One who runs away will wander in reincarnation.
ਜੋਵਰਤਾਏਸੋਈਭਲਮਾਨੈਬੁਝਿਹੁਕਮੈਦੁਰਮਤਿਜਾਲੀਐ॥੭॥
(ਸੂਰਮਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਉਸੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਰਤਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਖੋਟੀ ਮੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
Whatever happens, accept that as good. Realize the Hukam of His Command, and your evil-mindedness will be burnt away. ||7||
ਜਿਤੁਜਿਤੁਲਾਵਹਿਤਿਤੁਤਿਤੁਲਗਨਾ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸੇ ਉਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
Whatever He links us to, to that we are linked.
ਕਰਿਕਰਿਵੇਖੈਅਪਣੇਜਚਨਾ॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
He acts, and does, and watches over His Creation.
ਨਾਨਕਕੇਪੂਰਨਸੁਖਦਾਤੇਤੂਦੇਹਿਤਨਾਮੁਸਮਾਲੀਐ॥੮॥੧॥੭॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਵੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧॥੭॥
You are the Giver of peace, the Perfect Lord of Nanak; as You grant Your blessings, I dwell upon Your Name. ||8||1||7||
ਮਾਰੂਮਹਲਾ੫॥
Maaroo, Fifth Mahalaa:
ਬਿਰਖੈਹੇਠਿਸਭਿਜੰਤਇਕਠੇ॥
(ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਡੁੱਬਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪੰਛੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਆ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਇਸ ਆਕਾਸ਼-ਰੁੱਖ ਹੇਠ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ-ਜੰਤ ਆ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
Beneath the tree, all beings have gathered.
ਇਕਿਤਤੇਇਕਿਬੋਲਨਿਮਿਠੇ॥
ਕਈ ਖਰ੍ਹਵੇ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਈ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
Some are hot-headed, and some speak very sweetly.
ਅਸਤੁਉਦੋਤੁਭਇਆਉਠਿਚਲੇਜਿਉਜਿਉਅਉਧਵਿਹਾਣੀਆ॥੧॥
ਡੁੱਬਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੂਰਜ ਜਦੋਂ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਮੁੜ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ (ਪੰਛੀ ਰੁੱਖ ਉਤੋਂ) ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਉੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ) ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਉਮਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਇਥੋਂ ਕੂਚ ਕਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੧॥
Sunset has come, and they rise up and depart; their days have run their course and expired. ||1||
ਪਾਪਕਰੇਦੜਸਰਪਰਮੁਠੇ॥
ਇਥੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ) ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਲੁਟਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
Those who committed sins are sure to be ruined.
ਅਜਰਾਈਲਿਫੜੇਫੜਿਕੁਠੇ॥
ਪਾਪ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਫ਼ਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਫੜ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਕੁਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
